I have always thought weeds were important and many modellers just forget about them. I've used sawdust a lot and I agree you can do modelling very cheaply with a bit of nous. (Made me laugh the references to baking as well.) No I don't think you need a fence along the path. Might be more prototypical but scenically it doesn't need it. But then there is that principle about the 'the more the merrier'. That is, the more detail the better. So, sure, if you want. I am not an hysterical complainer about the 'health and safety' world I just think that if we want more modelling opportunities then we should take them.
