1) cheap engine stand. 2) dirty floor. 3) not paying attention. What could go wrong?

Real world physics is a bummer, he kept saying “push it sideways” and I cringed every time! Besides pushing or pulling from the front or back another tip I would suggest is turn the motor upside down to lower the centre of gravity… that and use it as a stand and not a engine moving platform

The three legged stands with the leg in the center aren't bad if you get a high quality one. Non swivel casters in the back and the back is WIDE. The one that tipped over on you has two problems, swivel casters all around and a narrow "wheelbase" in the rear.

Every video I ever watch people say dont get or own a 3 leg engine stand. Obviously yall have never seen a heavy duty one. I have one that's made out of 3" square tube, very heavy. I made one in shop class when I was in high school that was also made out of 3" square tubing but someone stole it from my home shop years back. The one I bought is absolutely amazing and never had any trouble with it wanting to tip or fall. I've had dozens of engines on it from 4 bangers to 6 slingers to 8 tappers

Stand behind the engine stand pull it slowly toward you, trailing the third wheel. The problem here was moving it sideways.

I mentioned that, I also mentioned how I felt just turning it could cause the same thing. I messed up and now there is a cross bar bolted on my three leg stand.

When i saw the title i thought that the engine just fell off by itself when in fact it was negligence 💀😆

3 legged ones are good for tearing down junk motors that you know the block is worthless cause I can roll it outside tip it over and drag the block to the scrap pile.

The one in the thumbnail you recomened but don’t have tends to Lean the front of the engine forward and scares me so I just mounted the stand in the bed of my truck to just work on engines back there
@CrazedPerformanceRepair

I didn't even notice how that was tipped differently. I was only looking at that base for the sake of thumbnail lol.

I had the same problem with that three-wheeler with my transmissions that i rebuild (it's garbage)

You brought out a good point with your video. I would weld a cross member on at the end of your 3-leg stand and make it into a 4-wheel stand shown at 6:40 on your video so that it looks like your other stand.

the phrase you are looking for is CENTER OF GRAVITY ENVELOPE. With 3 casters its very small. with 4 casters its wider than the entire engine

I have a 4 leg engine stand that has 4 wheels. Its far more safer and more stable than the 3 leg engine stands-- which are prone to falling over easily... as you mentioned in your video.

I have a engine stand similar to the one you bought at Sears . I like it but it has one drawback with my hoist . It will not fit close enough under the hoist to transfer BUT we make do with a little fiddling around . 3 people have offered to buy the stand and I point out " go buy your own " Like your content .

Not so much anymore with aluminum headed motors. But back in the 80's it was commonplace to see people put big block chevys, fords, olsmobiles, almost any motor aside from a small block chevy would fold the upright. The motors would go down face first. Breaking the crank snout and harmonic balancer off the front of the motor.
@CrazedPerformanceRepair
@CrazedPerformanceRepair 3 года назад
Yikes yeah that would suck!

@@CrazedPerformanceRepair yep, heart breaker. Always the three legged ones that would fold up. Lakewood used to sell them for IIRC $29.00. (It was the 80s.) Before internet so no way to get word out except, word of mouth. So it was scary how often it would happen every summer.

Didnt have an engine stand tip but back in 08 when we were replacing pistons under warranty on all the v8s. I had an assistant operating the cherry picker while I was guiding the engine back in I told him to go slow he turned the valve the wrong way and the engine tumble into the suburban did alittle damage to the truck and the engine but at least I didnt loose a finger or something
@CrazedPerformanceRepair

Sounds exciting, glad no one lost finger's...

Can you do a video on all the differences between the Flex Fuel ready 5.3 Chevys vs the regular 5.3s?
@CrazedPerformanceRepair
@CrazedPerformanceRepair 3 года назад
There's not much of a difference to be honest. Basically just a few changes in the fuel system and tune. I believe the hardware is all the same otherwise.

CrazedPerformanceRepair I’ve heard horror stories of people’s non E85 ready car’s hoses and seals rapidly deteriorating from the Ethanol. Jay Leno constantly complains about it. A lot of performance car enthusiasts want the over 100 octane and clean burn of the ethanol but end up gumming up their non Flex Fuel vehicles. It must be different hose and seal material on the Flex Fuel vehicles. Thoughts???? Maybe do a visual comparison video to clear this up once and for all?

Wow... You kind of went off on a floor scrape. That and skinny jeans, plus LED lights on your car or motorcycle will get you a good case of the gay-clap! Just kidding... Thanks for the information. I just ordered the Big Red stand hoping it's not junk. I suddenly need three additional stands for three engines I inherited. Of course, I'll die soon and my sons and wife will have no use for the engines or my tools.. or guns... Whoops I lost my guns while camping just last year. Keep up the videos, you're doing great.

Strange, all my guns went Missing when I moved. Must have fell off the trailer. Weird how that happens...

If you've got the skills to build an engine, you sure as heck aught to be able to weld a cross bar on that leg sticking out and add another wheel.
@CrazedPerformanceRepair
@CrazedPerformanceRepair 3 года назад
You are correct, I later added a angle iron to prevent it from tipping.
