At first glance you could think OOTD is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. The album is called VersuS VillainS, which makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe it's about useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well. The music is highly interesting as well. The Rock is dirty and distorted. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

Not only on this release, but I think Rising might be one of my favourite b-sides from them overall. I used to go to lots of emo / post hardcore shows and that anthemic chanting section brought me back, and my first thought was how amazing that will be live 😂

Same for me with Shatter, Rising is my new ringtone though :D

I just realized the guitar intro to Rising reminds me of the intro to Mighty Morphing Power Rangers!!! (That's a good thing, no hate here!)

We Are Young is my favorite song from this album. That moment when Siyeon's power vocal comes in is pure ecstasy. I normally don't like lyric videos, but it's essential for this song so you can see who is singing each line. The whole song is like a showcase for their voices and each member does what they do best. Whoever assigned the lines knew exactly what they were doing.

Hope you will react to Justice and the Virtuous album 🙏 especially since you love when people are screaming in songs

You are 100% correct that all the elements are there in OOTD, but there's a segment of the fandom who aren't happy if every dc tt doesn't sound like the Nightmare series title tracks.

Wait, I knew OOTD was decisive for some reason, but if what you wrote is no exaggeration, that means there are Somias who are unhappy with the titles tracks for almost 4 years now?

@@Friedensp4nzer I've seen grumbling about the Dystopia series having too much EDM in it, but the grumbling really started, in my experience, with BEcause. I can only say what I've seen on twitter, yt, and discords I'm in, and I don't think it's a huge segment of the fanbase, but yes, there are fans who seem to want them to just make jpop-inspired rock title tracks over and over.

Well, to be fair, it was (and in my opinion still is) the rock sound that sets Dreamcatcher apart from everything else in k-pop, so I understand why some fans would perceive a more "industry-standard" sound to feel somewhat uncomfortable.

@@personaltestenvironment834 I understand that sentiment, though if they want j-rock, there are a lot of great bands out there. If they want Dreamcatcher to be where they finally are, they have to live with the compromise. I listen to a lot of Rock and Metal, there is no Pop group who does either good enough that I wouldn't just listen to other bands doing it better. I love Dreamcatcher's music for the Mix of genres powered by how Rock and Metal music FEELS, that, to me, is what makes them unique. Together with how well they 'live' and perform everything they do and how, because of their influences the, can have more meaningful lyrics and messages than most other groups. Well, and I just love them for who they seem to be as indivuduals, of course. In the end, it's the variety for me that is their most defining factor. To me, their music was never as interesting before The Tree of Language as it were since.

@@willdhaggard Which would, imho, get bland very fast. Japan has a lot of very talented bands, why would someone not listen just to these bands if j-rock is what they are after.

6:13 The melody line you were talking about sounds like something you hear often in spy movies. Which makes sense since the girls are playing as villains/narcissistic celebrities and this scene right here 10:19 kinda shows the cops are investigating their case (the mysterious disappearances of people following them)

Oooh right you didn't listen to it yet! By now I almost feel envious (or jealous, whatever is the one that is not that extreme in english) for the people who get so much joy out of 'We Are Young'. For me, it's a type of song not even Dreamcatcher can get me to like, it annoys me to no end whenever I try to give it another chance.^^ 'Shatter' as a whole (song, choreo, outfits) is one of the best things DC have ever done for me though, 'Rising' is really, really fun and I demand a moshpit at the next concert. 'OOTD' is a lot of fun, too, I think it's very much Dreamcatcher, at least Dreamcatcher since 'Scream'! The exaggeration in the lyrics make it work without the video, too. The whole narcissist theme is well done imo.

Why I'm feeling sorry right now 😅 I've been craving for a EDM/Dance track like CGYOOMM since Leez left.
