UPDATE: - The "transpose" (grey knob) actually changes the inversion of the chord if multiple notes are held. It only transposes by semitone if a single note is held - As of the 1.1.4 update, the brightness now increases to 125
Great overview of 'Hold'. I agree Shift + Blue should move the upper split point to allow selection of a range. However as it is, this is very useful addition for holding keys across octaves (say, six octaves of C) to resample that for sound design purposes.
Most definitely, Hold as it is now is a welcome addition! I just feel like a few tweaks would really improve the versatility of it whilst not distracting from the reason it exists in the first place
Really need the sustain petal (CC64). One key reason for me to purchase the OP1F is to use it as a digital piano when connect with a external keyboard. :(
It would be cool if you could automate, and randomize, the function of the grey encoder, so that you press a button, and it starts randomly playing different chords within a particular key.
Yessss thanks for making this! Great to finally see how this works. I'm curious what happens if you exit the seq view and go back to tape and press keys. Does it transpose the held yes to that new root?
I was curious myself so thought it would be good to just document my own questions. Good question, unfortunately it doesn’t. Switching to the tape and playing the keys functions the exact same as if you’d stayed on the sequencer page
Another great informative video, thanks. For myself, that screen brightness is the no.1 reason why I'm now ruling this one out. The max setting you showed seems far too dim for in a indoors setting, let alone outdoors. I wonder if it'll be possible to boost the brightness through a future firmware update? TE boosted the battery time on the op-z with one...Gonna keep on watching videos on it though:) Two further questions; 1) the info/help section...can you turn that off or are they baked into the new UI? 2) how sharp are the baseplate edges?
To be honest the screen doesn’t translate well on camera. I spent about two hours sitting in the sun with it today and whilst glare can sometimes be a problem (show me a screen that deals with that please!) visibility was never an issue with seeing what was on the screen. That may come down to familiarity with the OP-1, but everything was visible to my eyes. The help/popups when moving a knob are part of the UI. No setting to disable them. They didn’t bother me, but I can see why they might bother others. It would be nice to have a toggle in the settings. Regarding the baseplate edges, they’re chamfered edges. Looks to be about 1 millimetre chamfer. Not sharp, they wouldn’t cut or damage anything
@@A.D.G wow, that's bloody fab reassurance regarding the screen, cheers Aaron! TE love their accessories so it's always surprised as to why they have never brought out a plastic shade cover (like what was made for the Atari Lynx). Hopefully a future update will give the user the option of help toggle on/off. A lot of users know what's what by now. Also nice to read about those edges. thanks once again for all the ace feedback, cheers man!
@@sodiumlights you’re welcome buddy. Unfortunately the “reviews” I’ve seen have just been about the cost of this thing, and there are those of us who have a lot of questions not necessarily answered by the Manual on the website. Reach out if anything else comes to mind and I’ll get back to you
I am askmy self for what is this function for? Is it for ambiance music? If so, is it possible to change add another instrument to play on the top of it ? What you think is this function for? Thanks for the share 👍🏽
I think the intention is for drones of bass notes. However you could use this in a bunch of creative ways if you treated it as a transposer. One example would be modulating the start point of samples and using this to jump between them
Sure did! You can only “solo” above the selected range in the sequencer, if you hit any notes inside of the range you’ll either add them to the hold, or disable them if they are already being held.
I ordered mine before the announcement video went live (as the website updated before the video went live) Got here in Australia yesterday and I ordered on launch day
There are definitely ways around it (by editing the sound), I was just suggesting an option where this would work without having to alter your sound. It does work with a longer release on the envelope, but for some sounds it results in a rather messy mix.
