Opaque VS. Transparent Base 😳 / Huge Difference - Acrylic Pouring Experiment
Let's do an dutch pour experiment with a different base. One with titanium white (Opaque) and one with Mixing White (Transparant). The results are so different! I did not think it would make this big of a difference :).

I am an acrylic pouring addict, without a doubt. Playing with colors, testing out new fluid art techniques, brands, sizes & collaborating with other abstract fluid artists; is the best. Since I started this journey I feel more balanced in my work and passion. If you see these fluid painting tutorials and feel like, this is something for me: go for it! The fun thing about fluid painting is, that even though you do exactly the same, the outcome is different everytime. Also everybody has a different view of composition, colorcombinations and the way of doing a technique, what makes and keeps it so interesting to watch. Thank you for watching and following me in my modern art journey!

Well as usual I’m learning. I was aware of opaque, and transparent or translucent from my art classes years ago. I wasn’t aware there was a transparent white. This opens up all kinds of possibilities with pours and results. Consistencies are the other thing affecting results. I’m so excited to see more of this. The white doesn’t take over, as you say it mixes. I actually like both of them.

I'm pretty new using pour paint. I accidentally bought the transparent white and used it as a base. So when I added black, it became the most unique thing I've ever done. Then I found this video you did and I was so glad you did the experiment. I am anxious to try more because the designs are very cool. Thank you for everything, by the way. You are very talented!

Could you do a video explaining how you decide the directions to blow with the dryer and how you choose which parts to mouth blow? I'd like to understand how you choose the areas to mouth blow - I usually think it looks good and then you blow more! Also, how do you hold the dryer and at what angle? I think your work is stunning and want to get tips to practice.

So glad you made this video. It took me 6 -7 months to figure out why my white-based pours were looking so "fluid and smokey" against some of my other ones. Then I compared the paints and saw that it was semi-opaque. I have since then purchased new white paint and been waiting to give it another go. Just came across this video and it has calmed my boggled mind and exciting to try again lol. Thank you!

I always use titanium white because of the results you just showed. I was going crazy with some projects I was doing, I ran out of titanium white and used another white and my composition just turned into a blob of paint sitting on the canvas. I scraped them several times figuring it was me and being tired. The following day I realized it could have been the white that I was using because that was the only thing I had changed so I went out and got some more titanium white and my pieces turned out beautiful. It was the white. Who knew...

Thanks a lot for teaching us such things! Great! I first of all learned that there is such a thing as transparent white. And you provided the explanation why my first try outs on Dutch pour resulted in such so different "flow" of colours compared to what I saw on your channel - it must have been because my first purchase of white colour must have been transparent!!😁 Thanks for enlightening me !👍 One idea came into my mind - what about opaque ground but transparent white around the colours before you blow over? Would that give a "third" result? Love to see more of your great "crazy" experiments. You are so inspiring! 😍🔥♥️

I love that you did this experiment; because, while the transparent mixing white might not be preferable to the titanium white for pouring, it could be used to create other interesting effects. I’d love to see the same base but transparent vs opaque colours for the puddle. Also maybe a complete transparent vs opaque painting. Also I’d love to see how they dry. I wonder if the transparent white would dry differently? I used a transparent magenta as a base once and it didn’t dry well. Some parts were lighter than others. Wondering if the white (or any other transparent base colour) would do that for you as well?

I think it would be cool to see an experiment of one canvas where all the paints are opaque and the other canvas only transparent colors to see how they interact.
