Don't think that it's a very good engine. The 1.7 CDTi is much better. On low RPM (~) it's very 'lazy' (if you step on the gas pedal fully in 2nd gear at 25-30 km/h [1600-1800 ~], you may think you sit in a 50-60 HP car). You have to change the gears at least 2500-3000 ~. Moreover because of the engine's 'small' size it's very loud as early as 2000 ~. It's quite well usable for main road or highway but in the town/city not really.

I had one Opel Astra and drove it for 16 years without any major fault or breakdown. Wonder why GM stopped its production in India. In Indian highways it was possible to reach 150 kilometer per hour easily, though for a short period because of traffic. Great car at a moderate price!

Pe 1.3 CDTI ai avut multe probleme? Eu am una intretinuta de mine si nu am avut nici o problema in 4 ani. Chiar dimineata mi-a pornit la sfert de cheie la -13 grade. 1.7 le e pacatos dar 1.3 si 1.9 sunt ft ok doar pretentioase la intretinere.

I own an Astra h 1.6T. I have never faced with major problems. The worst part of this car is the flywheel and the clutch. Especially when you like to drive this car fast. I should replace those 2 parts but after 11 years of driving this car. The price for those 2 parts is around 520 euro and another 180 euro for my lock opel service to replace them. :( Everything else is just perfect

You would be surprised at how good this little engine is. Standard It's about 90hp and 140 pounds foot. I've fitted a DT-UK tunning box to mine which brings the power up to 120hp and 180 pounds foot and amazingly without any added reliability issues. It's a great laugh at the traffic lights seeing a BMW drivers face when he is shocked to see a little Corsa isn't quite so easy to pass and cut-up before the next set of lights :D.

I have the same motor on my Astra H (2008). 315.000 km still fast....186 kmh on the GPS was my best result...not bad for a 1.3 with a consumation of 5.8 ☺

I have got the same car is a nice car for the city and for the highways until 130-140 . The consumption is 5.5 lt/100km on that speed . But the big problem is if you travel with 4 person is very difficult to accelerate and pass the other cars ... BUT if you make a lot of km like me and you don’t want to drive fast is very very nice car in my opinion... 300.000km and still be like first day ;)

I have same car but tuned to 115hp (chip tuning, bigger airbus with round filter) and 150 kilos weight reduction. It does 200 kmh by gps easily but takes under 4 litres of diesel on motor way.

1. Chain 2. Fiat and its better than isuzu 3. hatchback 190+, van is slower and GTC can go 200kmph on tacho. (on GPS its a bit slower)

+Mihai Alin In my opinion, absolutely! For people who often use highways, it could definitely have more power. It also takes a lot of Diesel as you have to put the pedall to the metal in order to gain speed. For city use it is fairly enough.

Mihai Alin It is ok if you keep in mind that is just an 1.3 diesel engine, is not so comfortable to get from 0 km/h and so not comfortable to drive in traffic. On highway at 130-140 km/h I have an average fuel consumption of 5.5 litres/100 km with AC off and I obtained a minimum fuel consumption of 4.2 liters/100 km, so it can be very economic if you "feel" the car. In a 700 km trip with 5 persons, luggage and almost all the time AC on my fuel cons was 5.5, trought villages and highway. I think this is the purpose of such a little engine, not the performance.

M-a prins radarul pe A1 cu 192 cu masina asta. Volanta am schimbat-o la 250000. Acum masina are 425000 si in afara de radiatorul de la AC si niste furtune de antigel nu am schimbat decat consumabile. Distributia originala.

It's called reliability and yes, it's better than the 1.7 cdti. The only downside is that the timing chain replacement costs are very high.

@@si4632, basically the manufacturer says 10 years/150.000 KM. In my opinion, this is reasonable. However, keep in mind that changing oil at 10.000 km ensures the reliability of the chain tensioner (hydraulic ; low quality oil = the chain tensioner will fail at 30.000-50.000 km). The chain is a simple one, not a double one like in the 2.0 dti 101 HP. It really should be replaced regularly. Before failing, it rattles for some time. You should also replace the bearings in the gearbox. M20 gearbox (1.3 cdti) is known for that problem, alongside with other 6 gear compact Gearboxes M32 - on Zafira, Astra, Vectra, Insignia, Alfa Romeo, Fiat....GM ”design”.

Paul Roux I think that you have that top speed because of your gearbox, with an improved transmission for top speed I am sure that your car cand hit al least 200 km/h (at least on the display, at my car the speed is higher on the display than the gps speed)

You drive cars with one arm ,thats why they have armrest on door panels and some in center console. i am sad to say that you have not discovered that, try driving like that for 2000 km a day and you will see that the auto engineers did a good job in design .

Dude Im the first one to drive with just one hand, but that doesnt mean you are in full control of the vehicle, that simply means you are resting your arms. I tend to have my left hand at 7 and my right arm on my leg, but in case anything hapens, such an idiot pulling out in front of you I would inmediately reach the wheel with both hands, there is no way I could steer precisely enough with my previous position.
