Thanks. You helped me realise that the transponder is missing when the key had been dropped to pieces, and the car did not start afterwards. Lucky the chip was on the seat :)
A tip. When you have put the button side together - test the buttons. I bought a kit from AliExpress for less then 3 $. Worked fine. Only problem was that when I was done I found that the "Lock" key did not work. The reason was that the new part had a small plastic "nob" on the inside that was so big that it stoped the button from working. After I filed it down it went better.

Thanks for this great video. I had one key that unlocked the doors but it did not work the immobilizer. The other spare key worked the immobilizer but not the doors and i swtched the key part around and voila the key now worked the immobilizer and the doors and the other one is now completely knackered. So thanks for letting us know that the transponder is in the detachable key itself. Saved me £30 fred cheers.(;-) Update... Just realised what was wrong. With other key the transponder chip had come out of the key end itself i thought it was inside the key itself and not accessible but not the case it comes out easily. I put a new battery in last night and this morning the car did not start and realised the chip had fallen out when i replaced the battery and put it back together again. I found the chip in the bin must have got there when i did the hoovering up later on,luckily i found it and it was in the middle of the bin on top of some empty walkers cheese oven baked crisps lol. First time in 15 years that i noticed it had this small chip and it was tucked away and must have been held in with glue or something as it falls out very easily now and with the other key it does not. Also i might add you have to put the key in the ignition and press the remote key to pair it to the car otherwise the key won't remote lock/unlock the car doors. My car is an astra g 1999.

Last time I tried without seeing how it was done I ended up breaking half the case and I had to reorder it after losing lot of time (thanks God I looked into eBay and not Vauxhall extorsionate process). My Vauxhall key fob has never worked. Its had new batteries, it just doesnt work. Ive owned the van for 15 years... I use the key. 3 years ago the central locking stopped working. Ive not missed it. The van has now done 483,000 miles! No rebuilds.
Great video buddy, I had a similar problem on my old Peugeot, but I only had one master key for it, so I was advised to take the mobilising transponder out of the key itself and glue gun it around the key transponder in the car. Because if I lost my key Peugeot was going to charge me £257 for a new key and transponder and as you know, you only need really the circuit board and the key. But great video buddy sure it will help people.
I have one key for my car and I bought new locks because the out door locker were broken. Is there any way I could take the chip out and put it in my new key instead?

One of the buttons on my vauxhall corsa key has the broken (the lock button) and you can feel that it isnt clicking - will this tutorial work for that issue or does this only work if your buttons work before repalcing the casing?
+Mark Scott Sometimes the surface mount buttons on the board wear out. You need to strip it down and try it without the worn rubber. If the buttons are failing then I would get a new one for £35 as they are tiny and hard to replace.
One thing is rubber, second thing are the small SMD buttons inside. Luckily i have 2 keys. One is better. But second has really bad buttons, i looked inside and they are pretty much broken. Will see if i can replace them. Just have to get right size SMD button. Soldering is not a problem.

bluefantasy88 Yes the second one is hard to remove. A tiny screw driver helps. You will most likely break the plastic lugs on the old case bottom getting it out, its fiddly. Tbh unless the old case bottom is really rough it might be an idea to use that with a new top. The cars my daughters and she wont be impressed if I rip her fob apart, sorry buddy no video. ;-( Best of luck
I have vaxhull mariva 2003 and key fob not working went to vaxhull showroom and they asked £120 too much if you ask me so I changed battery myself but not helping what should I do?

Hi, I have been quoted £35 for a replacement, the button is the only thing worn can I change the fob myself, it all works still except you have to press hard on the lock button, I have a vauxhall Astra 1.6i SRi 5D... info on this would be appreciated and thanks
I bought a 2nd hand corsa and it has had a new key fob. I have problems with it where it doesn't open the doors. I have had a new battery fitted but am contemplating trying another. To me it seems it is the buttons themselves.
+Janine Plimbley Could it be that the transponder fob has been replaced but not programmed for your car ? If so its a trip to the dealers I am afraid as you cant do it yourself. The buttons do fail and you can buy replacements for less than £10 on ebay if you know anyone with real good soldering skills they can be replaced. +fredintheshed1 It worked fine when I bought it. I even got the broken fob to use in emergency but one of the little bits inside have fell off. it still looks new except the bit at the back where you stick the screwdriver is a bit chewed up. I wonder if its electrical?
+Janine Plimbley Depends what has broken. If its the silver metal contacts strips which hold the battery then that's ok as you will get those with a new fob. However if one of the tiny buttons have come away from the circuit board that's a lot more tricky. It would prob be cost effective to re-shell the fob and have it repaired than buy a new transponder key.
+fredintheshed1 hiya. after cleaning the gold coloured terminals on the button side of the fob all seems to be ok now. It even works from a good distance aswell.
+Janine Plimbley Good stuff. The spring terminals come with a new fob case if you decide to change it. Perhaps pick up a new battery as it may have a leak, and a spare is handy to have in the car anyway. Just get a proper make like Duracell. Anyway glad your working. All the best.

If you look on Ebay the buttons are available. Problem is they a surface mount solder joints. Its possible with a low watt solder iron and steady hand you can replace them. If unsure there are some locksmith centers which offer a refurb service. Failing that its a new key and re program job from the main dealer.
You can buy the surface mount micro switches on ebay. If you have lost something on the board your prob looking at a new fob and re program at the dealer or mobile locksmith
The buttons are available pretty cheap on ebay. The problem is they are surface mounted on the circuit board inside the fob. With a low watt solder iron and a steady hand it is possible to replace them but not a job for the faint hearted.
i have a small problem, you see the silver plates with the black rubber dot on the circuit board, i have lost them, is there a way i can fix or replace this.
harry jenkins You can get a repair kit for the micro switches from Ebay harry, guess your going to have to be good a soldering though. I cant place a link here but will add a new comment above.

Fred. My Opel key fob doesnt want to open doors if im too far from car. I have to almost touch the car for the key fob to open the doors (central lock). Do you know how to make it work farther?
+jw200 I guess it must have but no idea where it would be. Have you tried a search on a Opel / Vaux forum ?. Normally if you have the problem then someone else has it also.
+jw200 hi,did you fix your fob? I work for Lookers yardley in the parts telesales. you could try this.....turn on the ignition(no need to start the engine just ignition lights on,on dash) then press either button on your fob, you might hear the sound it makes when you opperate the locks (like the button going up and down). If you hear this sound,it means it has reset. switch off the ignition,take out the key,jump out the car and try it! hope this works for you.
Thank you, probably I have damaged my key because it still does not work. I bought new key 433Mhz and I used FVDI diagnostic cable to read my PIN code but I don`t know how to programmer new key, I mean keys button to open and close doors ( fobik is old ).
