This is a another video showing the possibilities with winding spiral staircase designs in Funcom's Conan Exiles. These are designed for open builds and can be used for things like going from lower to higher vertical levels without the use of slow elevators. Plus they look super cool!

Build builder I've seen, love your stuff. You mentioned that you weren't going to get into the details of how each block snaps but honestly that would make for a great series of videos, often I see people confused about how things connect.

That is a massive amount of mats to build a stair up somewhere... I sincerely hope there is a easier way... X( I appreciate the education and dedication you have put forth here. It's great vid.

Hey, cool build :)! I noticed that around 19:00 you couldn't place a staircase at the rotation you wanted, so you added a wedge piece ontop. It's most likely not the wedge piece that made the staircase work in the rotation you wanted, and here's why (will be a bit technical): The building system has a cache of valid snap-to locations, or "ghosts" as they're called internally, that it fills up whenever you use a building item to enter building mode with that piece. This cache only gets invalidated partially or fully when you 1) Place a building piece. 2) Remove a building piece from the building. 3) When you select a different building piece altogether that will require a different set of placement ghosts to snap to. When it generates the placement ghosts it basically takes the piece you are building with (the building brush) and tests all of its sockets and valid rotations against any applicable socket on the building around where you are aiming. It runs the "CanBePlaced" function on it, and keeps a list of valid and invalid ghosts. One of the things that can block a placement from being valid is the player standing in the way. And this is a big problem. If you don't invalidate the cache with one of the three methods mentioned earlier, even if you move your character it will not recalculate that ghost. So even when you are not obstructing it anymore, it has a cached invalid ghost for that configuration of the placement and will not allow you to snap to it. The system lacks the ability to either recalculate the invalid ghosts that were blocked by a dynamic collision (like the player who can move away), or to allow people to snap to invalid ghosts locations and tell you why you can't build there. In your case, it's likely that your position when the ghosts were generated made that rotation of the staircase overlap slightly with your character, making it an invalid placement. And when you switched to the wedge piece and back, you had invalided the cache and moved away. Thus your player collision was no longer in the way to create an invalid placement ghost, and you could successfully place there again. This is the cause behind a lot of seemingly weird spots where you just can't snap your building to, but then it suddenly works again for "unknown reasons". And I plan on fixing it by allowing you to snap to invalid placement ghosts, so you can understand why the building system doesn't allow you to build somewhere. Since it would make the invalid placement blocked by your dynamic player collision work the moment you move away. Until that is fixed, I suggest having an additional building piece of a different type in your shortcutbar that you can switch to quickly and back to your desired building piece to invalidate the cache so it recalculates the valid placement ghosts.

this is a cool idea but i liked the winding staircase #3 better. i was wondering how i could continue the tower, i might use this to make it bigger on top of the #3 video if it works out well. in my opinion this tower is bit lacking in space.

great video but Citadel Forged with Fire's building system in my opinion beats conan and I build structures in both games..not as good a game as conan but the building mechanics are better

Press CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + F10, then you will not lose any structure you place from your inventory.
