Here, we demonstrate how to open and start an electric vehicle (EV) from Hyundai with a dead key fob battery. There are three ways to get in but a single back up start option. And there's noting mysterious about the EVs -- we'll get you in and going. Of course, starting the car assumes that the it's start battery is good. And if not, we can at least we can get you inside and ready for a jump start! And yes EVs can sometimes need a jump start.
Models covered include the Ioniq and Kona.

Thank you very much for this, very well done video & loaded with information. My wife’s key fob is getting finicky and we wanted to find out how to start her car in the event it completely dies. This was the perfect video for us 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Thank you so much for this. Btw, do you always have to reprogram the key fob once you replace the batteries. I have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq and both key fobs stopped recognizing. Weird that I barely use the back up key fob but it stopped recognizing too. I thought this might not be a battery issue but I guess these 2032 batteries wear out fast. I literally just replaced one key fob 2032 battery on one of my key fobs just now and will test shortly. The key fob press on ignition button worked and saved me a trip calling roadside assistance or a locksmith. They should explain this hack by default when one buys an EV Hyundai. I even called the dealership and they didn't tell me that hack. Told me to come in to get new battery and repgramming. As always, these dealerships swindle you for more money.

Ok, a lot going on here. First, glad to help. Second, no there is NO need to re-program key fobs after replacing the battery. If the fobs DON'T work after putting in a new battery, make sure the stick on backing is removed from the new battery. And the batteries last about a year on average, used or not (fob is always looking for the car). Finally, the dealer should absolutely have told u how to open and start the car, THEN asked u to come in. Use another dealer!!

Both my fobs stopped working in my 2019 Ioniq and it was actually the vehicle's 12v battery that was the issue. We eventually got stranded 400 miles from home in the Six Rivers Forest Campground which is very remote. Luckily somebody drove by and stopped for us so a jump fixed it and both fobs worked like new. I told the dealership this and they still tried to sell me new fobs! Total scammers, and these guys are worse than any I've experienced. They basically pulled my car apart and then said they didn't have the battery in stock, so we're 8 days without it now. Anyway, the point is that it might not be your fob, but your car battery. And if you don't know (I didn't), the 2019 Ioniq has the hybrid battery and a regular 12v battery as well. I assumed it used the large battery for all the 12v stuff so never thought of that being the issue. When we got stranded we had 100% hybrid battery from going down the mountain, so I was surprised when it was just dead.

For me it only started when I pressed the cars battery reset button. I used the manual key to get in the car, but it still didn't unlock the car and start button was useless. Mine is Kona hybrid.

Have not heard of a reset button but will look deeper when time permits. I

In the meantime, get a new key fob battery...

So, I cannot find a Kona Hybrid, but did find a Kona EV. The only reset I found remotely related to the battery is to reset the electric economy. If replacing the fob battery didn't work, please try a different explanation for reset...
