Gun-loving Texas is one of the final few states to prohibit residents from the open carry of handguns. A grassroots gun rights group, backed by a new governor, are on the path to changing that, but the debate shines light on the greater issue - is open carry a reasonable extension of the second amendment?

Yes. The officer was wrong. But the civilian should not have touched his gun. Let the officer make a mistake. Take it to court later. Never pose a threat to the officer. He might not have been arrested, as well.

No matter how many laws government put on paper criminals will allways find a way to get illegal weapons. I hope you never end up in a situation where you or your loved ones find themselves needing a means of protection and waiting 20 minutes for police like my father had to wait cause 20, 10, 5 minutes IS FAR TO LATE.

@Frederick Shull lol all laws mean what the mean when they are written not what you want to mean down the road. If you want to change the laws meaning you need to rewrite it. In this case you would have to hold a constitutional convention, vote on it and then have the states ratify it.

Frederick Shull for reals. That’s not what “regulated” meant in 1776.. What it really means in the context of the constitution is “to put you or maintain order.” So “a well- regulated militia” just means a well trained fighting force. So when you re-read the second amendment with that in mind it means, “a well trained militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms will not be infringed.”

@@Bloodhound264 There have been several attempts to pass constitutional carry, none have passed. There is a House Bill that was introduced just last November that is in a committee right now. But its not looking like it will pass. The way the 30.06 and 30.07 statues are right now is ridiculous.

I can't carry, I envy people who can carry, but refuse to. Felons should be able to carry after 5 years of a clean record. Some of us made mistakes, and aren't out here committing new crimes. The 14th doesn't apply to the 2nd, because it says it is an uninfringable right. Felons were allowed to carry guns before 1968. It's government overreach, and it has been happening for a long time.

The funniest part of this video to me was when that female politician said “there’s no data that shows a good guy with a gun is a deterrent for a bad guy with a gun.” There actually is data, about 500,000 to 3,000,000 plus per year, which is the amount of lives are saved by defensive uses of firearms by law abiding citizens. If you’d like one situation where a bad guy was stopped by a good guy with a gun, look into the Southerland Springs shooting in Texas. It was probably more deadly than the last 3 shootings combined, where if I remember correctly, 20 plus people were killed and more would’ve been if the shooter hadn’t been stopped by an NRA member with an AR-15.

Another example is the Louie's restaurant shooting here in Oklahoma City. Dude walked into the restaurant and shot two people. He walked out of the restaurant and, if memory serves, he was walking toward a nearby restaurant. Two good guys retrieved their guns from their cars and took out the bad guy. And the only one from that incident who died was the gunman; the two people he shot survived.

Not to mention, any mass shooter would have body armor, multiple magazines, multiple guns, or do the smart thing and conceal his weapon to a public area, gun free or not, since they're criminals and don't really care for laws. Open carry also helps empower those who can't conceal carry their handgun to be able to carry it openly without a need for a license, further increasing personal liberty. Not to mention, any would-be criminals would think twice if they see multiple armed citizens open-carrying their handguns.

The constitution defacto does not and has never defended individual gun ownership rights. What's more, the constitution - the bill of rights - has been changed more than a few times for very important reasons. In other words, even if you were right - it makes no difference. Evidence proves gun control saves lives. That means serious background checks for everyone, mental health checks and a ban on semi-automatic rifles like the M4 and M16. Reagan did it with the old NRA, a gun ban. And you know what - IT WORKED. It only stopped working because the House and Senate FAILED to renew the gun ban.

I personally only conceal carry, because with an open-carry...if there is an attacker somewhere, I'd likely be a priority target since I could fight back. I'm fine with people open-carrying, but you are definitely presenting yourself as a target to evil-doers. My PERSONAL opinion is, most open-carry (not all, just most) just do it to show off...whether personally showing off, or showing off their 2nd amendment (which people, imho, should have the right to do - I just don't think it's wise).

Many (that I know. Warning: anecdotal evidence to follow) seem to be concerned about the magnification of force firearms present. I have been blessed with the opportunity to bring a few to the range and expose them to how guns function and show how responsible gun owners handle weapons (at the range, in public, at home). This also allows me to have a conversation and find the ‘why’ for this ideology that guns = crimes and shootings. From what I’ve been able to determine, all but one has changed her mind after a few hours of gun discussion and live-fire at the range. No “D” calls required, just discussion. Our argument for guns is solid and has so much good data supporting permissive laws, i find it quite easy to present a very convincing case. Edit, for context I live in MA. I have easy access to many uninformed anti-gun liberals that have never handled a gun, and once they do, most love it

I’ve always took that clause to form a basis of comparison. Stating that the “need for a well regulated militia being necessary to the protection of a free state” . . . likewise, “the right to keep and bear arms is necessary to the protection of a free people”.

Instead of that Mom being scared for her kids. She should instead educated herself about guns and go out and try shooting at a Range ! Who knows her perception might change and she could one day carry herself and defend her children instead of running , hiding and waiting for the police to save her. We all need to be more self reliant in ALL aspects in our lives.

@@ZEYARProductions I think its that particular police chief. A police officer is there to enforce the law and uphold the constitution. If the officer does not know the law then how can he enforce it?
