Open Court: Charles Barkley Moments
Charles Barkley recalls scoring 44 points with 24 rebounds in Game 7 against the Supersonics to get to the NBA Finals in 1993 as a high point in his career. Losing those Finals to Michael Jordan immediately after marked a low point

Well, there's really no player who blamed their teammates on air. It's the viewers and these "sports analysts" who put words on the players' mouth. For all these people who say LeBron blamed his teammates, show me a video of him saying that to the media. None. You might see him getting frustrated, walking of, yelling, but all other players do so. MJ and Kobe did so as well as other superstar players.
@DrHDoofenshmirtzphd
@DrHDoofenshmirtzphd 3 года назад
@@afa1216 I think people misunderstand blaming teammates for blaming management. When they say especially back in the day they didn't have help or they needed more help that falls on management to make the right trades and draft picks to get them that help. More and more today that isn't the case as players are actively seeking out that help like LeBron going around from team to team. I mean at this point saying you don't have help when you go from team to team...makes little sense because you chose that team and by extension that management.

What really sucks for Charles Barkley is that he never got a second chance in the NBA Finals--unlike Ewing, Malone and Stockton who each never won a championship but made it to the Finals multiple times. I suppose it sucks to lose in the Finals more than once than just once. But in Charles's case, knowing that he never made it back to the Finals in his career as a NBA player was a one-and-done deal on his end. Plus, after leading your team to the best record in the league, having homecourt advantage throughout the entire playoffs, being the league's Most Valuable Player, but only to lose it all in six games in the Finals and never win once on your homecourt during that entire series will forever hurt like hell. But never winning a championship will never ever tarnish Charles's legacy. He's a great player and human being on and off the court.

Jordan had 41ppg in the finals that year, IN THE 90s. Almost nothing you can do about that. Charles is unfortunate in that the NBA format of franchise players and salary caps mean top tier players are often left without a ring if they end up with trash on their team, or they happen to be playing at the same time as a generational talent and/or super team. It’s the reason so many greats don’t have a ring, yet random no names for the Celtics have like 5-6.

The Suns were an extremely talented team, what prevented them from winning the championship was not having enough size teams were able to exploit that by constantly getting to the basket which forced them to double team a lot usually leaving shooters open.

The Suns and Sixers are nothing alike. The Suns were winning over 50 games before Barkley joined them. KJ was arguably the best PG in the league during this time.

@@sideshowbobsaget8876 Yeah, when did this narrative start that Chuck had no help in Phoenix? Chuck SAYS IN THIS VIDEO "I can't say I don't have enough help anymore" after he'd been traded to the Valley. Seriously, where did this start? That person comparing the 1993 Suns to the 2001 Sixers is beyond insulting to that Suns team.

Looking back, you'd expect a vet like Danny Ainge to not be out of position to help from Paxson. The only shot that could potentially beat them is a 3, and Danny Ainge gave it to the Bulls.

I've watched 1994 and 1995 Playoff series opposite Houston Rockets. The Suns were one win away on both series to knock them off from contention. Arguably the most forgettable was for Charles to miss precious FTs in game 5 of 1995 West semis in OT. The Suns were up 3-1. Barkley failed to deliver the killer blow. Come game 7, Barkley had shots to deal with an injured left knee, leading to Mario Elie's "kiss of death." Scottie Pippen might be right: Sir Charles don't deliver when needed the most because he lacks commitment. On one end, Coach Paul Westphal is like Mike Dunleavy Sr. who enjoys talented lineups and "shallow" (ie. regular season) wins but unreliable in critical schemes when the game is on the line.
