My gosh, what an incredibly brave little girl Audrey was to go through such a big procedure at such a young age, and for you and Dave to have to keep a brave face for her so she wouldn't be scared, you both did such a great job. I'm so glad that the worst of it is behind her and she can go on now and enjoy the rest of her life, I'm praying that her recovery will continue to go well and life will be back to normal soon. I'm a physician (Canadian but have lived in the US since my family moved here in my late teens) and I can tell you, you are so very lucky to live in Canada. I still hope we'll get to go home one day (transferring medical licenses internationally is challenging.) So glad Audrey and all of you are doing well!

Thank you for sharing Audreys journey, I'm glad she's feeling much better. As a fellow Nova Scotian and former IWK Health centre patient, there is no doubt that this hospital is a place that makes magic happen, and in my mind it is truly a home away from home. The doctors and staff are always the best of the best in the IWK, and the living environment it's not only welcoming, all of the colours and paintings give the place it's comforting atmosphere. I was a patient there for 21 years and have had multiple surgeries. In fact I was in the ICU for 24 hours for one of the biggest surgeries back in 2008 when they had to put rods in my back to fix my scoliosis in my back and I spent an entire month up on the seventh floor because it was a two-step surgery. But otherwise the food service was great with Dial For Dining. Another thing I enjoyed on 7 link was the play room, the volunteers actually let me Lego back to my room so I could build things so I wouldn't have to wait for the play room to open up again on a different day. Also I noticed is that Nana Margie came to visit your daughter, and when I was around the hospital she wasn't there. When I was there I had Buddington the clown, and I met him for the first time during my big back surgery and over the years we became great friends, in fact we even collaborated together with our RU-vid channels a couple times.

I have had two open heart surgeries. I was born with a congenital heart defects called Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve. I am doing well now. I am stable with my medications. She is so strong. CHD warriors are so strong! Prayers for a speedy recovery.

What an amazing little girl! Thank you for sharing your family's journey. I had an ASD repair back in 2015 at 32yrs old and it definitely was not as smooth as Audrey's seemed to be. I still have lingering trauma, so wasn't sure if I would be able to watch, but only looked away when you showed the surgery site. I hope Audrey continues to do well and she knows how loved she is!!! When I was 1 I under went an AVSD repair for 3 wholes in my heart. She is so brave!

My sister went through emergency open heart surgery at the age of two for a hole in her heart as well so put a patch on it and she is now 34 with two amazing little girls and her experience actually inspired her to become a nicu nurse

Hi Lindsay! What a brave girl Audrey is! There was so much emotion throughout. Even the weather represented the feelings you and your husband must have had. Dark, stormy clouds on the ride to Halifax, then when Audrey was transferred out of PICU, the sun was just starting to break through the dark clouds, and finally clear, sunny blue skies on your way home!😎 You are brave to not have cried; I think I would have in private. I know personally what she’s going through. I was born in 2003 with a heart condition called “Double outlet, right ventricle”, and I’ve had 5 open heart surgeries but a total of 36 in my lifetime counting the catheterizations that I’ve had. You are so strong, and beautiful… you got this sweetheart, keep fighting.❤

I’m a new follower but I had to comment to just say how brave Audrey was/is. I completely understand how you felt during this difficult time and I can relate so much. My six year old son has a condition called craniosynostosis and he underwent an eight hour skull surgery when he was about 2.5 years old. We also stayed in a hotel the evening before and let him swim and it was the hardest night that I think I have ever had. I couldn’t sleep and all I could think about was the surgery the following morning. He slept soundly and it broke my heart knowing that he would be going through something so difficult in just a few hours. But we got through it and he was up and playing three days later! I am so happy that everything went well for Audrey. It amazes me every day how resilient kids are and how they remain so positive and happy in the worst of times. I love your videos and I always look forward to them. You’re such a great mom and have a wonderful family!

58 years ago I had open heart surgery for a hole in my heart my mother had German Measles which caused all my problems so when I was a year old I was taken in for open heart surgery back in 1966 technology is not like it is today I even had leg surgery because they needed an artery I'm glad to be alive I don't know how long ago your daughter had her surgery but I'm sure that it was a while back I'm glad they fixed my heart it took over 12 hours to fix back down but here I am today even though I have eye problems and hearing problems and other medical problems as well I am blessed to be who I am I'm glad that people share things like this because people need to know that children are important and that they need to care I hope your daughter is doing much better

Where in Nova Scotia are you guys located? It takes my family and I 3 hours from Yarmouth to Halifax. I had a cardio myopathy at the age of five weeks old and I was placed on 4 heart meds to help it get better. Today, I'm on 2 heart meds due to heart failure. I'm doing great though. Now, on every February 25th, I celebrate the fact that I'm still here and alive. That's the day I stopped breathing and I was saved by my grandmother and a doctor at the Yarmouth Regional hospital. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them. The IWK still holds a special place in my heart. Especially the cardiology department, I spent a lot of my time in there and all of the doctors are really great.

Wow....that was hard to watch so I cannot imagine what it was like for you and Dave. I teared up just watching it. It's amazing how resilient the body is, especially the heart.....and how kids are too. You all stayed strong and got through it amazingly. I'm sure it's a relief to have it done and over, just focusing on recovering and getting "back to normal" life. Hopefully she will have a very fast recovery and be bouncing and playing full force in no time. Oh and I cracked up when Dave was saying he couldn't watch them remove the tube ...haha my husband would be the same. I didn't realize how much Jacob looks and sounds like him. He's a chip off the old block. Lots of love to your family. I hope all the colds, flus and Covid stays away from your house for as long as possible. You guys need a break !

I had to have a hole in my heart closed. They found mine when I was 9 months old. When I turned 10 I had it fixed. It had gotten to a half dollar . They told my mom I needed surgery ASAP. I had 3 younger sisters. I was in the hospital from August 1971 until October 1971. When the. School know I was coming back, they explained to the other students how to act around me. Kind of telling them I could break or something. When I was 53, I had to have open heart surgery again. The first thing I ask was, did my patch blow off? They said no. I had to have an Artury replaced. Had to have another one replaced two yrs . after that one. I am wishing your daughter all the best.

I’m having open heart surgery in two months to fix my ASD and I’m so nervous. I didn’t know I had the defect until this year and I’m 23. Found out cause I fainted and they did an echo. The whole is too big and there’s no tissue around the aorta so the only option is surgery. I wish I had the surgery as a kid when I wasn’t such an anxious person 😭 she’s a lucky girl

I just ran across this video and I can totally relate to your fear and anxiety as my daughter had the same asd. She had hers repaired at 22 months of age and even though the hole was a lot smaller than Audrey's and was able to be done in the cardiac cath lab, the fear and anxiety is still the same. Mine is 14 years old and in 9th grade now and barely remembers it. Her asd was discovered about the age of 1 year old through a routine doctor visit when she was very young and her pediatrician heard a murmur. Further testing such as echos and ekg's and x-rays revealed she had an asd. At the time being, a little smaller than maybe 5 cm, they didn't think it was big enough to worry about so they said they would keep an eye on it. Around the age of nearly 2, they did more of the same tests and saw it was getting a little bigger and the chances of it closing on its own was not very good. So about 2 weeks after the last doctor visit, they scheduled her for surgery. She is doing great. For a while after she would go see her cardiologist every year but since he said she's been doing great and that the hole has long been sealed up, she goes back every two years. Hopefully Audrey doesn't have to go very often. I know these kids are not very fond of doctor visits. I'm glad Audrey is doing well and continues to do well. She is such a brave little girl to go through such a major surgery at such a young age. I love the cup with the EKG on it, that is so cool. Thank you for sharing this video. These troopers are truly amazing of what they can go through at such a young age!

How she feeling? I know how it feels to have open heart surgery, I had the same thing like her when I was a baby. I want to say this if it’ll help in the future. Try to keep an eye on her chest sometimes, the scar tissue builds up and cave in the sternum. When it gets too much then a Pectus Excavatum Surgery will help in the future. I had two of those. One when I was five and last one when I was 20 or 21.

OMG I HAD THE SAME SURGERY WHEN I GOT OUT I WAS IN PAIN AND SO TIRED i was in the hospital for 1 week and has meds for a month ( for pain) I know what your daughter went through ya i hope your daughter is feeling better!! Edit: the hardest part for me is barely getting any sleep because the doctors had to wake me up for a flush or meds it was the worst! We also tried a different way umm to be specific it was. Though the veins… we had to reschedule because once did not work one canceled because someone had a heart transplant… so ya

Hi I can't read when this was done the year or date but wanting you to know that I am 59 and I had heart surgery in 1966 I had a hole in my heart when I was born my mom had German Measles when I was born I had a heart problem I had one leg operated on and I had eye surgery all in a span of two years and I had three double pneumonias here I am years later and I am healthy adult my mom's having German Measles had given me a lot of other medical issues through the years but I did not turn out developmentally challenged like a lot of children like me did I am very lucky
