Open Interpreter: What Can You Do With It?

Very refreshing to see someone have honest struggles with these sorts of things / have to constantly problem solve

I'm just a 68 yr old Retiree living on the remote island of Guam and I had this sucker up & running in about 10 mins. I used it to create icons from diffusion images, delete duplicate image files and rename the rest. I even had it create a simple user interface for me that opens and run the program for me. I've done web scrapping, and tried to have it create a talking Avatar (not a lot of luck with that). I haven't spent $6 using my API Key.

"Am I going to give this new totally untested program full acess to my computer?" "HELL YEAH!" hahaha that's the spirit. Thank you for putting up an unbiased analysis and review of open interpreter. This was a great watch! Unsure what everyone else is excited about, it still seems code-interpreter is much better at successfully executing tasks, though limited, than this current open interpreter is (based on your experimentation).

Thanks for providing a balanced review of Open Interpreter. I especially appreciate how you reported the actual cost of using the tool for the video editing task. I tried AutoGPT earlier this year and was shocked how expensive it was to run while often not having much to show for its efforts. Looks like Code Interpreter is more functional, though. 😄

Thanks for the honest review! I couldn't get llama running locally either. And while it could generally get my projects going, the cost ($8 in a day of playing) makes me dubious about using it over the non-local version.

Great review, I had some of the same experiences, Cost is high, Llama would not work, use pip3 for Apple Silicon. Sometimes it was just running with no results showing and I stopped it because the OpenAI $ just kept going up and up. I have used locally to organize files, renaming, etc., it works very well for these items, IMHO. Thanks,

Thanks for the video Maya another great one. As for open interpreter I'm amazed with it like many other people are and can't help but feel that it's almost too good to be true. And you know what they say about things that are too good to be true. I keep wondering if I'm going to see reports on it allowing some nefarious hackers to get into my personal data. Please put my mind at rest that this is as good as it seems and without any downside.

I ran it locally and it worked somewhat. It would not load the model into the GPU so that really slowed things down. It ran into an error and just repeated that over and over so I gave up. May try again after I figure out how to force the model into GPU.

@maya-akim I love your videos :) using open-interpreter for a number of projects, mainly in azure with our own OpenAI GPT4-32K deployment. It’s *almost* breathtaking. Killian (repo owner) has indicated a major refactor coming any day, code is highly soaghettified as you likely saw :) Rhere are MANY contributors and the code base is highly unstable for now. But when it runs….wow Better than autogpt, agent is better than SuperAGI imho. I suggest a part two in a week or so. This is the most incredible software I’ve ever used “go ahead, AI. Be my guest, take my shell”.

I also had issues getting llama to run locally

I'm running it on NixOS (a Linux distribution) and it seems a bit unstable for me. It just easily breaks while I'm using it.

Yeah your not the only one having problems running it locally. Maybe next week... or after I upgrade my PC?

A cool way at least for OpenAI to make some extracash by giving poeple some hope with a so called "OpenSource" Interpreter which can't handle free LLMs but forces someone to pay more than usual 😅 Perhaps also advertising as new art of entertainment? 😮

The so-called unknown person, "Kilian" has been providing mind blowing AGI like products way before you all knew what AGI even was.

Portraying Open Source projects as shady is the the most ignorant take in tech. Additionally, the true power of Open Interpreter is that you can run it entirely locally... You don't need api keys, you don't need to spend money on other AI services. Open Interpreter is run entirely on your PC and so can the services you want it to use. It's best paired with hugging face models that you can be installed on your own PC, so that you can do your experiments FREE, and away from any prying eyes. Open Interpreter is Code Interpreter with privacy.
