Today we are doing some Oregon Coast Coho Salmon Fishing.
Join Kevin Bushnell and I as we venture out into the open ocean for the first time in Kevin's drift boat.
Today we are out targeting Oregon Coast Coho Salmon, Coho Season is underway and Kevin and was quick to put us on some fish.
This is my first time fishing out of Depoe Bay, and I have to say, not only is this place beautiful, but the fishing was incredible!
I was addicted in an instant. We lost a lot of coho along the way and hooked quite a few native fish as well.
If the ODFW Coho Salmon Prediction is even remotely close to what they anticipate, then this should be one heck of a coho salmon season here on the Oregon coast and along it's rivers and tributaries.
We did have to cut this day short due to what I would call an unforeseen circumstance, we did have a lot of fun.
Kevin and I are already talking about our next trip out here and it sounds like it will be very soon.
Though we were using cut plugs for salmon, I am going to bring my coho lures that I am just finishing up, some of these salmon fishing lures can be found on our website (link below) I'm looking forward to using these lures because I KNOW that they will hook us some fish.
I am just beginning to fully understand how this fishery works out here since it is new to me but it was great to get fishing tips from Kevin on how to catch coho that will help me become a better fishermen, and for that I am very grateful. Hopefully in our next video we can share some of these tips with you viewers in hopes that you may learn something new that could potentially help you be more successful when you are out fishing the Oregon coast for coho.
Until then,
best of luck to all of you and we will see you out on the water

Nick, B E C A U S E I like you, I'm taking you and Kevin to task. The ocean is no joke, and Kevin's " TOYS - R - US " drift boat doesn't stand a chance if the rollers get you. ALWAYS W E A R your PFD ... It's been over 10-yrs now that I witnessed a 16' drift boat at buoy 10 get swamped, and NO ONE wearing life-jackets. Fortunately there was 800 boats around to pull them out. NO casualties, but you can believe they shit their pants. I always fear the ocean, enough to put my PFD on as I'm leaving Gresham.... LOL... Still a nice video, but PLEASE listen to this OLD SALT..

@PaulMonaco - Your advice is well received and ON POINT.. I am definitely one to appreciate and respect the power of the ocean. IT IS NO JOKE and will surely claim your life if you give it the chance. Looking back on the video clips when I was putting this together, I then realized that the PFD didn't even cross my mind. I knew there were life jackets in the boat, but in a moment of chaos, it needs to already be on. I have heard the horror stories and have had the white knuckled, butt-clenching experience of knowing that I was in over my head when out at sea with waves that would have swallowed a drift boat like this in an instant..... I should have known better, and so should Kevin, but luckily we are talking about this on the safety of dry land and I know that this will be a mistake that Kevin and I will not make again. This trip WAS timed for some great conditions, so that wasn't much of a concern, and I do trust Kevin's judgement and ability when it comes to his boat. Anything beyond the great conditions we had, we wouldn't have gone out. Again, thank you Paul, as I've stated a few times now, your opinion and feedback is much appreciated and respected.

@@AnglingAddictsPNW Nick, THANK YOU for N O T getting defensive... You are right about the GREAT CONDITION that day, and you also touched on " In A Moment Of CHAOS " all things can change. Tight Lines My Friend.

The ocean was the safe place to be that day. Have you travelled the road to the coast recently? What we should have done is covered ourselves in duct tape and bubble wrap and cinched up the chin straps on our helmets for the drive down there. 😁

@@paulmonaco1148 No, I appreciate your advice. It takes a lot to upset me. I never even mentioned your arrogant and intentional insult of my boat, so I can't imagine why you might think I was offended. If you really want to help people with your advise though, you may want to work on your delivery. It sucks. As captain, my number one propriety is always the saftey of every person aboard my vessel. I've been through that hole in the rock many times, been more than a hundred miles off shore fishing tuna, and you talk to me like it was my first day on the water - along with insulting my boat. Why should anyone find that offensive? I think offense was your original intention. I spent many hours preparing that boat for the trip, making sure all my "I"s were dotted and my "T"s were crossed. You're required to have one throwable aboard. I had two. There were enough life jackets on board that we could have each worn multiple. Had the ocean been anything but glass-flat, I'd have insisted they be worn. No, my response wasn't a reaction to your offensive nature. Your comment just caused me to think of a time when real men, like the Vikings, crossed the seas in open boats without PFDs. They were called brave and adventurous. Nowadays, you take a small boat out to troll around the first bouy on a calm day without being wrapped in styrofoam, and your labled a fool. Oh, how our world has changed! Accidents can happen at any time, and that ocean is no joke. ALWAYS BE PREPARED! That being said, we're all going to die at some point. A sneaker-wave could have capsized our boat, and we could have drowned without PFDs. With PFDs, our only concerns might have been exposure, hypothermia, or sharks. I think I'd prefer drowning. A life jacket wouldn't have kept Jonah from being swallowed by a whale. Moral of that story: Always go where God tells you. I always do, and I'm not going to leave this world until the time that God has appointed for me. If you don't have Jesus as your life preserver, a man-made PFD is not going to do anything to help you. ALWAYS HAVE JESUS ON-BOARD. He is the universal life preserver, dependable in all situations. Sure, I'll take you fishing anytime! All people are welcome on my boat. It'll give us a chance to discuss the options of life preservers 😉

Man as soon as I saw the boat I was like dang that’s a little small, but then again I’ve gone out in inflatable rafts and been just fine and there are dudes who troll with a jet ski. Glad you got into some fish!

Haha ya man if the conditions are right it's not bad. We saw a small inflatable boat with two big guys, something you couldn't get away with if things were a bit more rough out there. The conditions were prime for us on this day

Try using barbless circle hooks next time. Regulations only say Barbers they don't say what type of hook circle hooks tend to be the best since they have a more circular shaft harder to lose fish with keep in mind will increase your catch

I remember my first time. Didn’t take long to learn the art of not reeling when the fish is pulling.

Rob Kaiser - I hear ya there and learned a lot that trip, but I wasn’t there to fight or play fish. I was there to yard them in. Considering how many fish were on and then off because of using barbless hooks I wasn’t about to lose fish because of my concern for viewers opinions. Hopefully we get some decent numbers this season.

Your clicker is annoying, turn if on when the fish is hooked. Good day when you can go outside in a DB. Help young guys learn, wear a PFD, especially in the ocean. Good video.

Clicker on, Clicker Off, to each their own.. In the end you just simply can't make everyone happy, so I do whatever I want. And it is definitely a good day when you can get out in a drift boat lol. The conditions really have to be prime. The PFD was definitely a fail for Kevin and I.. though we did have plenty of them in the boat. Something I will touch on in the next video that I put out. A simple solution that can save your life. Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated

Hey nice video! I am planning on going out this week, and wanted to know how fast you were trolling? What your bait and setup was? How deep were you dropping your lines and in what depth of water? And how far off from the coast line. Thanks, and would appreciate all the help I could get
