She talks to him like she's trying to attack him and get him to say the wrong thing. Personally I'm much more interested in interviewers with a genuine passion and curiosity about technology. Makes for a more interesting conversation.

Watched him live in Qatar a few weeks ago. Fascinating person and comes off as incredibly humble despite his visionary achievements. To be saluted.

I understand that it was a challenging question to answer in the end, and he made an effort to be as honest and genuine as possible. However, many humans often prefer being lied to if it provides them with a sense of security. Information like that is prone to being misinterpreted and exploited to incite fear. Balancing the amount of truth to disclose while also providing reassurance through lies is indeed a thought-provoking philosophical dilemma.

What an amazing perspective from Sam about why he has no equity. This is a breath of fresh air to hear THAT reason to do what he is doing.

The moral imperative to continue developing AI, on the basis of all the areas where it can improve quality of life, reduce suffering, improve efficiency of resource utilization, address poverty and environmental degradation, advance knowledge, etc... outweighs the moral case for stopping development on the off chance that it leads to some AI catastrophe. I mean, we don't know what we're missing in terms of all the good it might bring, and the only way to find out, and to get to that good, is to keep going. It's like any technology humankind has ever developed. You keep going until you find out what's possible with it, and what's not, and you do your best to anticipate and mitigate potential pitfalls along the way.

When I first learned about Sam and watched some interviews, he did not come across as smooth and natural as he does now. He definitely is much more confident and natural with public speaking and not as seemingly guarded. But woah - @08:47 I swear it looked like she was eyeing Sam up like he was some eye candy, lol! It was right after she asked about his relationship with Elon, and as he soon as he started to respond, she quickly darted her eyes down and back up with the look.

He talked about amazing things despite the negative questions. I'd love to hear more about the positives and opportunities. I'm so sick of these interviewers just baiting him with negative "gotcha" questions. They really miss a huge opportunity to get the best out of him in these interviews.

Brilliant interviewer - so many traps in her questions despite her friendly and unassuming demeanor! Sam skillfully avoided them, genius! Like when she asked him to connect the dots between LLMs and end-of-the-world scenarios, why Elon is frustrated with Open AI, whether he won't benefit at all if Open AI makes massive profits! Look at her framing and choice of words: "benefit" instead of financial gains or profit and "at all" added in there to leave absolutely no wiggle room. Naughty naughty.

This unknown 'sentient' technology can produce an equally equitable beneficial or detrimental impact on the human population based on whoever is regulating and controlling this technology and with what intentions...that's a serious concern and question to ruminate on...

It’s hard not to be critical when we can already have most of all of that right now without AI, but it’s deliberately withheld by the people that push AI. I think the current system is incredibly broken and crumbling, so a new alternative is set into place to improve the situation while still finding a way to maintain control over the human population.

Great interview, I loved it. Google Gemini is going to be very challenging for Chatgpt. All Chatpgt base technology is all Google research (ie transformer). No one believed Chatgpt could pull off what they did. They amazed the world. That said, I have a lot of hope for LLMs and what they can do to move human research 500 years into the future in the next the 50 years. It has that abstract potential and I could be underestimating it’s power for research. Everything from metallurgy, biotechnology and theoretical physics. Everything and anything we can and can not imagine. (I sight Demis Hassabis’s huge contribution to humanity with Alphafold. What a great human being. My man emanates kindness).

It seems inevitable that AI models will soon change the world rapidly, drastically, and in unimaginable ways. If it's more responsible and well-meaning developers slow down now, what's going to stop the rest of them? I know little about Altman, and I'm not saying people like him are our best chance of having perfect AI, but the race has already begun, and honestly, who knows how far into it we really are.

Sam is a very intelligent manager. But some of those who are involved in AI development must be much more intelligent to make this happen. It is usually the case in the SW development environment. He is extremely good, especially compared to other CEO-s... I consider myself fairly good and intelligent, but I am over 60 years old now. Still using ChatGPT to speed up some of my SW development... I believe more than 99% of the people were pleasantly surprised by the proceedings of AI in the past few years, especially those who did know nothing about the previous 40 years of AI (It had its ups and downs quite often...) Considering what I believe: - More than 99% were surprised, but even those who worked in the field expected much slower improvement. - This is probably the first time in the past 30 years, when the Rate of improvement in SW will be higher, than the rate of improvements in HW. It will cause a real transformation of work, thinking, problem solving... which will lead to higher productivity or better service in many fields - Considering the above, it is extremely difficult to predict the advancements by 2025 or 2030 or even further out...even for the best professionals inside companies like openai. Within a company like openai or Google or Microsoft... some of the best ideas come (or not come) from the best of the best, the 1% of openai... developers. - The predictions is also difficult, because basically what happened during the past 10 - 20...50.. years is, that the speed of communication improved tremendously, and because of that information spread more quickly in the world... and everybody could get onto the same page in word matters... Now the change is NOT only the speed of communication, but the speed of real problem solving, the speed of "thinking", and the speed of many other things... I had negative feelings about him, but after watching this, I realized that he's a good guy and the right guy to do this, and lead us into this new horizon. Im skeptical he has no financial stake in this. He dodged the question of financial benefit every time. And she didn't continue to press him enough. She was trying, but his whole response..."I know it's hard for people to understand..but, I have enough money..." That's a subjective response that didn't answer her question. We understand he has no equity in open AI. It's his go-to talking point. But he still didn't correctly and directly answer if he is receiving any financial benefit, weather money, shares of Microsoft, or other property or remuneration, associated with the success of openAI. I will bet my last dollar he has a financial benefit in it's success, directly or indirectly. My bet, is he was awarded MSFT corp shares, perhaps in an off shore trust or other vehicle. Again, it's just my opinion, but, I firmly believe it.

I hope we all realize the pure stroke of dumb luck that allowed us to have a benevolent AI dictator rather than a tyrant. I sure hope something more robust is implemented (as he recommends) before GPT9. His global payment system Worldcoin is the one we should actually be worried about if ever such a technology fell into the wrong hands. Highly suspicious of OpenAI; there is always more than meets the eye. Being in the same space as them, there is inevitably going to come a time when they truly monopolize data and AI. On another note, Emily Chang asks horrible questions and it's not limited to this one interview, but in several of her more recent interviews she appears to have less interest on the technology and it's impacts than she does on the personal lives of the folks she's interviewing. Many of her questions are really distasteful. You can tell by many of Sam's quips and comments he didn't appreciate her questions and attempts to stir up drama. Keep the interview boring please.

At the beginning, I didn't give much for the interviewer. But then she pushed him a little like no other interviewer and it was refreshes. She was quite brave, a little harsh but brave.

You ARE doing regulatory capture. Calling it "transparently and intellectually dishonest" doesn't make it false. A lot of people fall for this guy but he's another Elon Musk. He's a shrewd businessman with a silver tongue. Don't regulate start ups, but above capabilities there SHOULD be safety/certifications/etc tests. It's just increasing barrier of entry plain and simple. Also he artfully evades the question of is he going to benefit in anyway if open ai were to get big. He just redirects the attention to the already circulating rhetoric that he's already a rich man and that he has no equity and so he must be a charitable god. Why didn't he just say "no I am not benefiting from OpenAI in anyway" plan and simple? Because that's not the answer, this isn't charity work. Do not fall for him.
