Just one day after the initial release of v1.0.0 the developers released a bugfixing version of the OpenCore Legacy Patcher v1.0.1 - and this enables some more features on my iMac 2011!

Took the plung and it works great! I did have to reinstall the Open Core Legacy Patcher as it stated on my Mac Pro 5.1 (4.1 updated) that it had become corrupted, but after reinstalling the Open Core Legacy Patcher and ran the Post install Root Patch. Thank you, Jessie, for your videos as they give me the confidence to do this . . .

Everything works fine from all iMac2013 and MacPro41/51 with sonoma, it's wonderful :) thanks to you for reminding me i have to reset nvram for bluetooth on MacPro !

Mac Mini 2012 works beautifully. For my uses, I found the performance a bit more responsive than Ventura, which felt sluggish, just opening and closing apps, but now feels like a new system. I use an SSD and a max of 16GB memory as the cost is so tiny, worth the upgrade. (remember those days when you could actually upgrade Apple products? takes a deep breath..)

Same story here! Mac Mini Late 2012, upgraded to SSD & 16GB of memory, works like a charm with Sonoma, installed with v1.0.0 OCLP and now just upgraded to v1.0.1. These hardware are tanks!

just bought MM12 with all that,but after while,one memory port "does three-beeps". so I think I am with 8GB only :-/ Any help? Btw.those 4K screensavers are quite heavy, stuttering and using much CPU of MM12... or it was just doing something in the background,fresh install?

Hi . Hast Du etwaige Probleme mit den Sport Streaming Diensten wie ich mit DAZN , Sky/ WOW oder MagentaSport ? Die ÖR macht mein Air ohne zicken in Sonoma mit OCLP 1.0.1 . Nur die oben genannten nicht .

@@thomasromeni8063 hi Thomas, hatte noch keine Zeit für das Upgrade. Aber zur Info: diese Dienste benutze ich nicht, daher kann ich das nicht beurteilen. Es gibt aber einige andere Dinge, die auch schon bei Monterey und Ventura nicht gegangen sind( DaVinci Resolve, GarageBand, Karten und ein paar andere) aber Audacity und OBS funktionieren und alle Browser und Zoom und Skype laufen gut. Aber auch Mail macht Zicken. Aber das könnte an der Kommunikation mit dem Server liegen.

Installed OCLP 1.0.1 + Sonoma to my iMac12,2 2011 today. No BT. But, after cmd+alt+P+R (3 chimes) t it started to work but then my wifi broke and could no longer connect to networks. Built and wrote Open Core setup to the boot disk once again and then both started to work. Now it runs very nicely! 👍🏻

my 2013 late macbook pro 15''(MacBookPro 11,3)，Ventura 13.5.1 to Sonoma 14.0 with OCLP 1.0.1, finally succeeded. after post-install root patch, the boot blocked. I used the installation USB drive to reinstall Sonoma several times and finally it worked.

This was super helpful! Thank you so much! My 2011 currently runs Ventura, which is ok, but still has some minor issues. I’m thinking of going back to Big Sur though, as Maps is an app I use quite a bit. Also, Terese some other minor graphical glitches. I’m guessing 1.0.1 applies those fixes to older versions of MacOS, like Ventura and Monterrey? Also, to get those new fixes, I just have to download the latest post install root patch, right? I’m curious as to how this will run on my 2008 Unibody. I doubt Maps would work, but it still should be interesting XD Thanks again Jessie!

You’re welcome! No, maps won’t work and the graphic fixes of v1.0.1 are for Sonoma basically. To apply, download new OCLP, install to disk, reboot, THEN apply root patch and reboot again ☝️

iMac Mid 2011 with OpenCore Legacy Patcher v1.0.1: After resetting my NVRAM via Option-DMP-R-P Bluetooth startet - Thanks a lot Jessie! I still have a problem with Apple TV stopping playing videos (closing the fullscreen mode and stopping) and with some other OTT video streams dropping frames, but I will monitor this.

@@JessiesFlying Apple TV now works. Don't ask me why, because I haven't changed any settings. Weather app freezes , as expected. And Apples Maps is blank on my iMac as well as on yours. Apple Photos shows individual photos only for 2-3 secs and then blanks the photo, but videos can be played without problems

I use a 2011 mini as a daily driver for the internet and media use. Fully upgraded with a 1tb and 500gb Dual HDD and 16 gigs of mem for chrome use. Im going to hang onto using Monterey until the end of 2024 and let them bug fix Sonoma for a year.

I really wish they find some work around for the maps and any app that has that metal 2 MapKit, just makes the Mac a whole lot more polished and as someone who loves these old Macs and often restoring them for sale, I would like if most things if not everything to be functional before I sell a Mac. I have a maxed out 2011 27inch iMac just lying at home fully working just bogged down by the old Mac OS High Sierra 😢. But maybe sonoma with the minor inconveniences is still worth selling? Highly conflicted.

Thanks for your video! Made an usb install media with OpenCore-Patcher 1.0.1 an updated my old MacBook Pro 13' mid 2012 from Ventura. Sonoma was installed flawlessly. Nearly everything seems to work. Went away, screen was black, didn't wake up again. Had to do a hard reset, was working again. RU-vid with safari doesn't seem to work. With MS Edge browser it is working.

Hi There. Thanks for your helpful videos. Did you get airplay receiver working on your 2011 iMac? I installed monterey on this 12.2 iMac - airplay receiver showing "active" in the system settings, but does not work. Also no screen mirroring in the other direction to iPad for example. Is it maybe impossible due to the non metal graphics?

I ran the update on a 13,1 machine and it set my user account to ‘Standard’. I now can’t administer the machine at all. When attempting to go to the recovery mode to delete the /var/db/.AppleSetupDone to force it to create new accounts … the terms and conditions page’s ‘Agree’ button is greyed out. Which means I’m completely stuck with a machine unable to even install the post-install patches.

My Mac Pro 2009 12 Core with an RX580 is running fine so far. Maps work and Weather does, although the weather app does have some very minor (almost unnoticeable) graphical glitches that show up when looking at the boxes for UV index, Humidity and so on. Viewing the precipitation radar doesn't have this issue. The app doesn't crash, I can live with the little glitches. BT may also not be working, haven't had a chance to test it, but the logo in the menu bar always has a line through it even when BT is on. Don't really have a need for it so I'm not worried.

I installed mac OS Sonoma on my iMac mid 2011 27 inch, with upgraded bluetooth/Wifi from OSX Wifi and upgraded metal card GTX 880M 8GB I performed a pram reset for bluetooth keyboard and trackpad works with no issues, supports Sonoma flawlessly as Ventura did all apps, except the known issue with Apple TV App as reported by Jesse and Mr Mcintosh

I don’t think so as Sonoma (and Ventura) only work due to the non-AVX2 kernel from apple silicon version used by OpenCore. As soon as software requires AVX2 and the CPU cannot compile it otherwise (slower) it will crash

I installed Monterey yesterday on my MBP 13” 2011 for the first time using OCLP version 1.0.1. Everything seems running smoothly but the bluetooth connection is annoying. My airpods 3 can connect without disconnecting but any other bluetooth devices can’t. Like my Magic Mouse 1, my laptop can discover it but won’t connect successfully. I have tried every fix i see on the web but still no success.

My iMac 11,1 and iMac 12,2 the ATV not play the moves. When start a move switch the screen to full screen and I could see the player in a second and closed the player and return. It never work under OPLC (from BigShure to Ventura), but I hope when I see your video. The other problem is the photo app. When starting missing some menu. Is it same all not metal supported Mac.

Hi Jessie! Thanks for your videos. I've installed Sonoma on my iMac late 2012 21'5 inches successfully and then updated everything from OCLP. Unfortunately, the glitches are back and also Safari RU-vid video playback is not working. Tried everything regards Safari but nothing fixes that. Edge browser plays videos without any issues. Do you have any idea what could be done here? Thanks!

@@JessiesFlying I did a workaround by basically resetting and deleting all the information, settings and cache saved on the Safari's library and then just restarted and Safari just downloaded all bookmarks and now works ok. Edge works ok for now too, will keep it just in case.

Hi Jessie ! I come back today because I need your help. I installed open core on the old Imac 14.3 of my wife (late 2013) after upgrading the high drive for an SSD. First Installed MacOs Ventura and it perfectly worked. But at the release of open core 1.0.1, I decided to upgrade it. Then graphic problems started, even with the root patches. The problems are for exemple big random black lines on the screen, and at the extreme, impossibility to see anything. When it does, I'm obligated to force the shut down. So I decided to downgrade for macOs ventura after an erase of the SSD. I thought that it will solve my problems, but it came back again... When I restart the Imac, problems take a few moment before starting, something one hour, something 15 minutes... So do you think that it possible to fix it, or is it a material problem ?... If it's material, is it a solution to change the graphic card (Nvidia Geforce GT 750M). Thank you in advance for helping 🙏

the iMac GPUs are often prone to fail, so that might be a hardware issue... try installing latest official macOS and check if the error persists...

OCLP appears to have bricked my mac mini mid 2011 5,2 After installing OCLP Sonoma (as well as trying with then Ventura, then Montery) to a thumb drive to install on a newly installed ssd it hangs. When i boot to the thumb drive after installing and select efi then select the ssd it hangs. When i boot directly to the internal ssd i get the circle with line through it. If i try internet recovery (both option+command+r or option+shift+command+r) it loads and leaves me at a grey screen. Is there any way to undo whatever OCLP did to the nvram? Thank you.

Everything running fine with Sonoma in a MBP 2012. Except for continuity camera. The Mac detects the iPhone camera and the effects controls kick in, but there is no image. Any thoughts? Thank you for your videos!

Hey @JessiesFlying, I have an issue... After installing macOS Sonoma 14.1 Beta 2 (23B5056e) update on MacPro6,1 the system started, but then after applying the Post-Install Root Patch, the system does not boot anymore. It stops on the boot screen with the Apple logo, but without progress bar, and stays there not moving forward. How can I remove the Post-Install Root Patch to just boot the system without GPU support and other patches?

Never install beta versions as OCLP might not be ready for it yet. Try safe mode to uninstall root patch

@@JessiesFlying yes, I realize that using OCLP with beta versions is a bad idea, so first I tried with 2014 MBP 13" and everything was fine, then with 2016 MBP 15", and when everything was fine on these two, I thought it would also be fine on MacPro6,1... But I was wrong. Your suggestion to try Safe Mode did nothing, I hold Shift from hitting power button and nothing, it still stands on the boot screen with the Apple logo, but without a progress bar. It seems to me that the problem occurs at an early stage of loading the root patches, and it is not even able to load in Safe Mode. Post install root patch? I am stuck in a major way. 2012 Mac air. Sonoma and open core-worked perfectly until I hit the patch update. I have tried everything but still nothing works. I even tried to reload the open core patch up date but received the error message saying they can’t verify originator. I am unable to use Wi-Fi as it no longer works. That leads me to the root patch. Can’t find a video or written instructions. Should I just erase and start over?

you can do it via software update as well, but you always will need to download the whole file (about 12 GB) - make sure you have latest OCLP before updating and wait some days to let me and others test it first

Both you @MrMcintosh and @JessiesFlying (im posting this in both places) recommend installing Sonoma through the “make a bootable USB stick then boot from it ..”. Another creator Mz Learning is posting videos recommending the Update via sysfem settings/General/Software-Update etc. Now I trust both of you and would follow your advice. Mz Learning is unknown to me but appears to post videos where the speech is auto-generated from a script (often a sign of automated revenue-generation in my experience). However, there is a potential downside to doing the update from a USB stick that I have sometimes encountered - its that these sticks are designed for fast reading not sustained writing and writing 12G to them often they get hot and stop working. I have a couple of questions 1. Does the update in-place work and if not what fails ? (maybe its because the OS needs to be on a different partition so its not overwritten or destroyed in the process ?). 2. Is there any way around the usb stick overheating on sustained write, such as writing part then resting before writing the rest ?

Hi and thanks for asking! It doesn’t matter if you do the update from system settings or from USB - as long as you use the latest OpenCore. Install latest OpenCore to disk and the do the update. These USB problems are known, so you better buy a high quality brand and test it before. Advantage of USB is, that you can use it even if you can’t boot from harddisk anymore

I let it stand for a bit to cool and tried the install again and it was fine. I think its a good idea to let them rest and cool between stages.

I plan on upgrading my mom's iMac 15,1 Quad-Core Intel Core i7 4 GHz with 32GB of memory. I plan on doing a time machine backup first and then I plan on doing the install on an external ssd to be sure nothing breaks. I assume I just reformat the external drive(owc envoy pro electron) and use OCLP v 1.0.1 to install the OS to that drive. I believe this should allow me to keep my current configuration with affecting my existing native macOS Big Sur. Also, I know this question has been asked before. However it wasn't exactly clear to me. After install OCLP, can you go to Apple => About this Mac => Software update (as the OCLP page say "Native OTA updates" are support or should all future update be done via the OCLP application. Also, this iMac has legacy metal. Are most issues resolve with legacy metal or should wait before proceeding?

I have been using an iMac 27-inch 5K 2017 with 40GB memory with an external 4TB SAMSUNG T7 SSD as startup disk. It was running Ventura last version. It's now an unsupported Mac. I have installed OCLP 1.0.1 and made an Sonoma Installer. I tried 3 times, but the process still halted after a few (2~4) restarts and halted while showing the Apple logo in a dark screen with the progress bar in the middle followed by a line saying "0% completed" and the T7 SSD LED is not even flashing. What's wrong? How to fix it?

Might be a problem there is no driver for Thunderbolt controller, so I recommend trying to install macOS in the internal drive for testing first

Hello I reinstalled an iMac mid-2011 (20 GB memory, I7 with 3.4 GHz, 1x SSD 256 GB and one SATA 2TB) with "High Sierra". When I start the current version of “OpenCore Legacy Patcher” I get the following error message: We found you are currently booting Opencore built for a different unit MacBookPro 8.1. We Build configs to match individual units and cannot be mixed or reused with different Macs. Please Build and install a new OpenCore config, and reboot your Mac. After restarting it starts again... Hi Jessie, I installed OpenCore 1.0.1 yesterday on my 2017 i7 imac. All went fine until after I did the re-boot from the usb. The notification came up, I clicked on install, it put it on my Desktop. I uninstalled my USB, then did a re-boot, I clicked on the EFI Boot, all it did was keep showing my the Apple Logo, then it would chime again and show me the Apple Boot.. I tried and tried but it will not Boot from my internal Disk.. Any suggestions, or help please.. Thank You

Yes, several times. I did it again just now, and there, the bluetooth ended up coming back, but still no Wifi, even though it's the same card. I finally decided to reinstall Sonoma on top of my installation, and there, everything came back, wifi and bluetooth. Maybe a bug during the first installation... I don't know.

My iMac 27 2011 on Sonoma 14.1.1 and OCLP 1.2.1 doesn't work at all with Apple TV. I get the "what's new/welcome" pop up in Apple TV (as you see when upgraded to a new Mac OS) then my whole iMac stone cold freezes. Only a hard reset works. I can open Apple Photos app again (crashed earlier before OCLP 1.2) but when clicking on thumbnail to view photos the window shows up empty without the selected photo.

Oh, yes. The system is not workable until the root patches are installed. After that things looks ok and most things work well. However not Maps and Find My due to Metal requirements. I opened Apple TV app from the Apple TV website and now I can run trailers, but if I start a show it crashes within 30 seconds. Main problem is photos though. I checked on my other iMac 21,5 2011 running Ventura 13.6.1 with OCLP 1.2.1 and photos app works well there. Still Apple TV struggle beyond trailers there as well. Old Terascale 2 AMD GPU's in both iMacs. My MBP 2012, Mac Mini 2012 and MBA 2014 works flawlessly on Sonoma being Metal compatible.

Dear Jessie, could you help me please ? My wife's MBP 2017 was not supported bye sonoma. So I wanted to install it after an erase of the hard drive with a bootable key that I created. But when I installed sonoma on the Macbook, it doesn't create an EFI boot on the hard drive but only on the key. So impossible to boot from the hard drive, and the mac always boot on the USB key. An if i disconnect it, I have a "no antry sign"... of course because there is no "EFI" on the hard drive...

@@JessiesFlying There was an other problem… I used a bootable key created with an iMac. I didn’t know that it was obligated to use the key created with the device which you want to patch…. So it created conflict with graphic card drivers etc… I had the sound but not the display… 😵‍💫🤯 Ultimately I used the recovery mode to erase the disk and re install the first OS (Mojave), then I re downloaded open core from the MacBook, et finally created this fu…..g key 😅. I re install Sonoma at the end of the day. I Hope it will be ok this time 🤞🤞🤞

Hi Guys, I have an issue using Microsoft Teams, my camera freezes after about 5 seconds. I had the same issue on Ventura, the last time Teams worked correctly was on ventura 13.2. When I check the console crash log I can see VTEncoderXPCService, the log references Microsoft Teams Helper Renederer has crashed. I have checked all the permissions for my camera are correct but can't get to the bottom of the issue. I am using a late 2012 iMac OCLP 1.0.0. Came works perfectly in FaceTime and Zoom. I am about to send the iMac out the window on a test flight! any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks Aidan

Sonoma - graphics and wifi/bluetooth not working, also doesn’t boot direct from new installation SSD. Big Sur installs Intel HD graphics drivers, sound doesn’t work. And doesn’t boot from ssd. I run MacOS Big Sur on iMac 21 inch 2011 Core i5 / 24 GB RAM and costum ssd with OpenCore Legacy Patcher 0.6.2 - tried Update to OpenCore Legacy Patcher 0.6.4 and 0.6.5 but always the iMac stopped and i had to revert to 0.6.2. Should i risk the Upgrade? Also I think Big Sur might run smother on this machine. I use it for Audio with Aufacity and Cubase 12 Elements.

I didn’t had any freezes with OCLP 0.6.8 with any macOS version despite Sonoma. Since v1.0.0 no freezes at all, but I agree it’s still risky and there are still things not working with Sonoma. I think Big Sur runs best on iMac 2011

@JessiesFlying Yes to both. After someone told me how to do the reset from discord :) . But now I've noticed that if the laptop screen saver kicks in the screen goes black and the laptop is frozen. So I then have to hold down the power button to reboot.

Jessies, do you think it is possible to install Sonoma with OCLP 1.0.1 on a MacPro 5.1 (mid-2010). On this model there is a metal GPU and an improved Bluetooth and wifi card. But when you start loading Sonoma into the MacPro with Open core, a message appears with a warning about some issues like bluetooth 1.1. And I’m afraid that the bleutooth card communicates with a USB 1.1 protocol... So if this is the case, maybe there will be no bluetooth after installation? ... I wait for your answer before doing anything. Actually, it works with Monterey. This device is very important for because I produce music with it. Yes, USB1.1 is required for Bluetooth. During setup it didn’t work (as support has to be patched into macOS), so that’s the reason for the USB 2.0 hub for mouse and keyboard. But after root patch at should work normally, at least it does with my MacPro 5,1 👍

I have a pcie USB 3 card. It seams to work because when I start with "option" with an USB keyboard, I have the boot menu. So do you think I can start the Install ?… 🤞

@@JessiesFlying you mean pcie card will probably not work during installation ? But usb 1.1 also ? So if I must use an USB 2 hub, where do I plug it ?

My USB drive doesn't show up in the boot menu when I hold option. My drive is GUID formatted....

hi! i am in the same situation of you... everything is more or less working... but im not able to run final cut pro... its crashing every time i try to open it... a shame. but maybe its just matter of time... thanks for your video!

@@JessiesFlying ye man... i try 10.5.1, 10.5.4 and 10.6.1 and all of them are closing just after opening :(
