Opening a 24 hour British army ration pack menu 8. 

I joined the military in 1972, so you can imagine what they were like back then. 😢

I've tried the British Army 24hr. Rat pack, the older boxed version, but always found I never used the entire pack contents. I always ended up with a lot of odds & sods left. Instead I buy the individual meal pouches and this suits my method much better. Good breakfast, coffee & snack during the day and a good meal at the end of the day. Horses for courses - !

Good video mate, as a serving soldier of many years I have seen these menus change a lot over the years, mostly for the better, the brew kit has stayed the same pretty much with the addition of a spork and wipes. The peanut butter goes well with the issue biscuit browns or oat meal block, the same goes for the jam sachets and tuna mayo if you have any of them 👍🏻 The only issue I have with any of the menus is the weight, especially if you are on a multi day hike where staying lightweight is important which is why I choose the civvie dehydrated meals. However the meals in the ration packs can be eaten cold without the need for water but I much prefer them warmed up 😂 I enjoy your channel mate, get well soon buddy 👍🏻

In the end, PERSONALITY drives a channel! YOU should be GOOD TO GO! I LIKE most of your videos...and I especially like the ones you do with the 'trio.' Friends add so much to the chat and we get a look at their equipment and ways of dealing with a location.

This menu was always one of the better ones! The orange cake is really tasty

Big fan of British Army packs, loads of stuff and I've yet to have had a bad one. I used one a couple of weeks ago and had the Burrito, very nice I spooned mine out into a couple of wraps.The hot chocolate is particularly rich, great after a long wet hike for lifting the spirits.

Love the rat packs,mate. Best food you can get for camping imho. Great value,great food, but mind your teeth on the Oatmeal Biscuits. They are ok,but take forever to eat and bung you up proper! You won’t need the tissues for two days!🤣 Don’t have the energy drinks,mate. Full of Aspartame,a sweetener that they banned (I THINK),in 2021, due to links to bad mental health,cancer,depression. A real bad artificial chemical sweetener. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

Love these ration packs, just bought a box of 10 new ones (pack date 11/21) for £150 which works out 15 per bag.

Dan, you could try to make your own mre's. I put some together for my camper van. B & M is a good shop for finding those individual portion packs of jam and milk. Whenever I'm in a café I always snatch a few sauce sachets, salt pepper sugar etc! They always come in handy!

Hi Dan. Bought back memories cheers mate. Spent a week on a Scottish Island first day used a BA pack my favourites was the beans and sausages and the sticky toffee pud . Unfortunately on day 2 our squad leader took them back and told us to fend for ourselves and sod off to the other side of the Island.😊 All the best mate Lee

I make my own ration packs out of scraps! I prepare most of my meals on a large stone in the garden,and any leftovers are made into rations! Oh Dan I was bitten by a dog yesterday mate!

Too expensive atm, £16-£22 per pack, used to get them for £5 they were worth them then.

I do not remember using these fondly! The rat packs certainly improved during my army career however half the stuff in a rat pack was discarded. The waterproof patches I always found to be excellent and the puritabs very useful. From my experience, and I suspect many others either serving or veterans like myself, most supplemented the rat packs with our own purchases. I used to take along cereal bars! The additional tables ca be because the MOD has decided to extend the expiry dates!

RAT packs were good stuff, there just was never enough time to eat them all.

Hope you're on the mend now, Dan. Yeah, these army ration packs have a lot, a lot of food in them - great for a active army man/woman. The great thing is that you can test individual packets for us. Get back out when you can!

Peanut butter goes with the biscuits and i think you'll find its burrito ie apicy minced beef, kidney beans etc

Think thats the newer version of the boxed 24hr pack, It's all about sustenance not taste there's probably in the region of 5000 plus calories in there, I've some Norway ones and tbh they in the whole aren't that bad(aside from the Tuna and Bean)that is pants.about 8000 cals in them.

Do like pertnear any videos you do. 👍agree about wasting time and food . If you aint going to eat it no need in tossing out the cash you paid for it. I had gout in my left big toe almost put me down for the week. Take care if that big toe ! Your feet are important when in the rough country.

Hi dan, just had menu 8 on my Camp vid. Great MRE the breakfast was a little bit of a let down as it was mostly beans with a few bits of meat in but the rest was awesome, the orange cake was really nice and the oat biscuits go well with a nice coffee. you wont be disappointed .

Nice one Dan… must say the British Army ration packs have moved on. Many years ago I was lance corporal in TA , one weekend wee took group of recruits out for a 24 hour training experience, no weapons. They were issued with 24 hour pack each and loaded on the 4 tonnner. The guys started rifling through the packs. One asked the question “ how long does the pack last ?” Why I replied “ coz I’ve eaten most of it”. This was when some of the items were dehydrated. Thank f##k we always took extras !!!

Hi Dan have you thought about doing a comparison video, you get a brittish army ration pack but you copy it as close as you can. You could compare the cost, quality of the food or drinks and also how hard it was to get all the stuff together. Just a thought mate, keep going and keep safe 👍
