Putting a HDD from Seagate Expansion Portable 750 GB External Hard Drive into a USB 3.0 casing seems like a good idea! Having a relatively slow transfer rate for its size, and some power-saving issues (sometimes it won't wake after going to sleep)... This video shows my first attempt in opening it, leading me to the following two conclusions:
1) Inside lies a mysterious ST9750430AS 2.5" SATA drive, that being 15mm thick, hardly fits into generally available 2.5" cases.
2) Opening computer gadgets with a kitchen knife is a pretty lame, yet exciting and hilarious way of entertaining good people of the world.
However, you can use the USB3.0 controller from a Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB3.0, and make it twice as fast, as shown in my next video - together with the proper way of opening the damn thing!
DISCLAIMER: This video is for educational (and fun) purposes only. Anything you do with your gadgets is at your own risk, and opening them (especially with a kitchen knife) will certainly void the warranty (and likely result in an injury). I CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG.
