Opening of a Nebuchanezzer which is 20 bottles in 1. Its actually the second largest (from bordeaux) the biggest being a Melchior which has 24. The principle in opening and emptying remains the same.

It is the largest amount of wine that is legally able to be sold without considering it a vat

You are correct the Midas is officially the biggest equivalent to 40 standard 75cl bottles. In practical terms I am not sure if these are ever produced for commercial sale? When I bought the Nebuchanezzer they wanted me to also buy a double magnum to make up the 2 cases (24 bottles) These things start to get pretty heavy and become very hard to handle. Hence my video.

That's a very clever siphon to decanter method

Speaking as a waiter. You go to the kitchen and serve your own food then :) Also you can pick up the bottle and decant it next time like any other. We tend to not use drills and silicone tubing in restaurants…

There is a larger bottle called a melchizedek which is 30ltr but I'm unsure if it's only for champagne it is equivalent to 40 bottles.

Haha @1:44, "because (the waiters) they don´t know what they´re doing"! Nice video! But why did you find it necessary to use the tube? Couldn´t you just pour it directly from the bottle? Was there really so much sediment,? And wouldn´t that anyway just be at the bottom?
@mikeswinemovie2983
@mikeswinemovie2983 5 лет назад
the tipping back and forward from pouring would really stir up the sediment and you could at a minimum end up with 3 bottles worth of cloudy wine that at best would taste astringent etc. This bottle was stood upright for 2 weeks and then moved around as little as possible. The tube enabled us to get most of the wine out and maybe only loose half a bottle.

Smelling the cork tells the waiter if the wine is 'corked'. Although rare, a corked wine is essentially spoiled or 'off'. This is why you're asked to 'try the wine' its not for you to see if it suits your taste, but to check the wine isn't 'corked'. Thus if you want to look wine savvy, you should simply smell the wine when asked to taste. 👍

That's correct. In my experience the cork after 20+ years can have all sorts of aromas. Smelling the wine will tell you all you need to know. The cork sniffing is essentially an affectation used by wine waiters to intimidate those that are unsure. Hope you enjoyed the video
