Underscoring the nation's commitment to advancing tourism and gastronomy, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graces the opening ceremony of the 36th Joint Meeting of the United Nations (UN) Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia (CAP-CSA) at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort in Lapu-Lapu City on June 28, 2024.
The 36th CAP-CSA brings together delegates from UN Tourism Member States, Affiliate Members and various organizations to discuss the UN Tourism Programme for 2024-2025 and Asia-Pacific issues, aiming to promote sustainable gastronomy tourism while preserving local traditions and natural resources.
In line with the global push for sustainability, the forum will address cost-effective and environmentally responsible strategies for maximizing local sourcing, minimizing food waste, combating climate change and promoting circularity in gastronomy tourism.
The meeting sets the stage for a series of engaging discussions and collaborative efforts to promote sustainable tourism and showcase the rich culinary heritage of the Asia-Pacific region.
