Probably the most evil cliffhanger on all RU-vid. Specially with this build up. I was constantly watching the timer, trying to estimate the chance of getting to see the results in this video. About halfway through I accepted that the video would just end with the blast. But than he got me excited when the video skipped to next morning with a couple of minutes left. Pure evil xD

You can use wet newspapers as stemming and pack it like your charges. It helps deliver the gasses and pressures to your material for an efficient detonation. Without stemming, you lose 40% of your charge efficiency and can cause a fault in your blasting or larger boulders.
@lotharschiese8559
@lotharschiese8559 8 месяцев назад
You only need stemming around the cut if it wants to be blowing out and sometimes the lifters, the last to blow to lift the muck.

13:25, while true, I may never go deep mining or blasting or putting underground stoles and portals up, crushing, etc you've taught me SO much about geology, and just really great information that can open up tremendous amounts of pathways in life, even as a hobbyist. Its come to the point where i drop all im doing to watch your guys' videos to learn about this stuff and see what you all experience down there- As youre standing up to your ankles in water, having your whole bodies vibrating to its core, and risking your lives to do this, it makes me really think about how primitive mining is for humans and how much of an incredibly valuable skillset it is to know and do, and to just see the progress of these tunnels over generations from hand tools to pneumatics and electronics, its awesome to see us facing off against the earth still

Got to respect the pure muscular strength it took to use that drill! But the old time miners must have been absolute beasts, to be able to drill those holes with muscle alone. And your explosives are a century worth of scientific study to to pack the maximum BOOM in those fairly small sticks! Congratulations, gentlemen! I'm seriously looking forward to your next video.

What you are doing is documenting and informing, as you mentioned, to those that will never experience what you are recording. I am from a coal mining family. So am familiar to mines, terminology, workings and being underground. That part of my life finished around 1987. Keep up the hard and good work. I can see and feel the passion. From New Zealand.

My grandfather was a prospector in the Arizona and Nevada area. I've heard stories about mining as a kid that makes me appreciate the work you've put into this. It's not easy if you don't have deep pockets to draw from, that's for sure. Fingers crossed you get the return we all dream of when watching this! If the reports hold true, and the vein doesn't pinch behind the shot, the work you've put in should pay out very handsomely. Looking forward to the next video. And thank you for bringing us along!!

On a trip to Juneau Alaska, we got to go into the AJ Mine and hear from a retired drill operator how things worked and how many miles and miles of tunnels were under that mountain. He even fired up a rock drill for us and showed us how they drove a powered mucking shovel to load the mine carts. Very loud and very fortunate to see this work in person. Thank you, Jason and the team, for sharing this with the world.

The part of the tour that shocked me the most was that the drill operator said he drilled two and sometimes three face shots a day. He'd drill, pack and go to lunch. They would shoot the face, give the dust time to settle clear the muck and repeat. Granted the tunnels were much bigger and he had powered tools, but still... Seeing these videos really showed how hard mine work is.

Great video, thanks. As a young guy looking for a paycheck, I worked for six months in 1974 on the Black Bear vein (ten hundred level) in the Idarado Mine on Red Mountain Pass, Colorado. I was basically a rookie trammer, but also filled in occasionally for the slusher, and even helped the driller in the stope for a couple hours once or twice. My memories of the stope: loud, cramped spaces, wet, wrestling the drill on bad footing, and lots of yelling. Despite the downsides (cold, wet, strenuous work), those six months were some of the most special of my 77 years so far.

As someone new-ish to your content I was rather certain it was in your blood after only seeing a handful of videos, but this confirmed it. The talks concerning your own history with this underground and standing upon the shoulders of giants gave me goosebumps man. You don't hear comments with gravity like that from folks who are only connected with their work on a mere physical level. You all have worked hard, the old hands would approve I'm sure. Thanks for showing so much of the whole process and cycle, but especially the drilling. Air leg mining in western US hardrock is absolutely a lost art that is proving exceptionally difficult to keep above the evening horizon. Wishing you luck from the Rockies, stay safe! Super interested to see how your shot went in the next one...

Hi Jason I’m a retired UK shot blaster. Just a couple of tips . You need to tidy your wires up . If you have a miss fire it will make it easier to sort our . Also in the UK we pack behind the charge with stemming. That’s basically clay . You hold the charge wires tight . Then put clay in the hole with a broom handle. Tapping it gently so you don’t damage the wires . It will make a massive difference to your fragmentation. Also you don’t need has much explosives .

14:55 Many Eons ago, working as a mine level geologist at Noranda Bathurst 12, after reviewing the past geology work done and core logs, I found that someone had planned the placement of pillars in the wrong places. Initiated approval for a sampling program and in fact found the highest grade ore in the mine at a time of falling metal prices. Each day when I came up in the cage, I got a lot of comical comments, for I was BLACK from head to toe from the sulphides. It took a week, but it was very rewarding to prove up that high grade. Ground up sulphides smells like Sulphur! Some of the comments, What the hell did you get into? Like what you ask your dog when he shows up after running away, and stinks to high heaven, and you wanna pressure wash him. Hell of a smart idea to sample while drilling, try using some thin flexible rubber matting attach to a container or a plastic milk jug cut so you can grip the handle. The concept is to get as close to the hole as possible, to get the fine gold and pieces that have balled up. Thats logical, Spock said to Jim!

now your talking Jason , this is what we love to see and you did a great explanation of time delay and hole placement .....was hoping you were gonna use an old style 50 cap blasting machine to make it feel nostalgic .....ypou have some really good Gold in that vein structure and we cant wait to see you mill it .... good thing no bootleg holes ....and hes right ..now the hard part ..mucking ...you need an Eimco 12 B in there ...now that would be cool ...good job my brother

Outstanding Work! I'm honestly very happy for you. This has been one of the best series I've ever watched. Every Sunday, for weeks, I've had this little bump of excitement to see what comes next. Until this week, I had no idea this was such a meaningful project for you. I thought it was just the first time you showed your mining process. Thank you for sharing all your hard work!

Awesome series, it’s like being there with you. Learned a ton about the blasting, I was always curious how that’s done so precisely with the timing. Do I understand it right, the yellow tubes aren’t electrical wires but some kind of explosive that transfer a shock to the caps? Got a bit emotional and some dust in your eyes when you said first blast in a hundred years. And damn do I want to see that pile now, shame you made us wait 😂👀

The question I have is this: "How much did it cost you to use those blasting supplies, vs. the amount of gold you are releasing from the face"?
@nothanks1877
@nothanks1877 8 месяцев назад
That was at most $1200 in blasting materials. Lets say that panning captured a cylinder of quartz material 4cm by 50cm from that one drilled test. That'd be around 2.5kg of material he panned in order to get the line of gold we saw. Perhaps 0.2 grams of gold in that pan. Lets split the difference they said 15 to 20 tonnes expected. Lets say 17,000kg. That'd be $87k in gold. But this is extremely rough math based on pure conjecture from sight. Any of those numbers could be off by half or double. So could be $40k, or could be $200k in gold in all that muck, if they did get 15 to 20 tonnes. Hopefully $200k. Three guys worked a month, and they've burned a huge amount of money in materials too. To get gold in a pan like that just picking up the drill dust off the floor in the second pan is crazy though. There was a tonne of gold in that second pan. If they end up getting 8 troy ounce a metric tonne from that muck, I wouldn't be shocked. Thats probably a pipe dream though, almost no ore is that rich. The mine never would have closed if it was that rich.
