When I was little my mom used to work at McDonald's and everytime there were barbies, mlp, or etc...instead of waiting forever to get the collection. My mom always brought home the display with all the toys at the end before they change them.
In the US we always had two toy choices , a boy toy and a girl toy. I remember that specific bag ,and many others like it which always had the two different "themes". This was so much fun to watch , I loved collected McDonalds toys in the 90s/2000s.
People are nowadays frustrated with themselves and don't have enough work to do. I liked both, and I don't see anything bad to pick a girls happy meal. I loved dolls and ponnies, and yes... 90% of girls like them.
"Disillusioned with being an adult"... I feel the same. I like some things like having my own appartment and only eat what I really like, but this paying bills thing and getting asked when I will make use of my reproduktive organs is a big fat NOPE!
When I was a kid me and my sisters had the opposite problem: in the drivethru, our mom would just ask us "which toys do you want?" and then ask for a boy and two girl kids meals or 3 boys, etc. When we were inside though and she forget to tell them or even if she did, we tended to all be given girl's toys. And sometimes the "boys" toy was like a cool handheld sonic minigame and the "girls" toy was just a plastic bracelet with cheap stickers. It would bum us out.
Same for me, but it never actually occurred to my parents to give me the option, and I was usually too nervous to ask for the boy version myself 😭I vaguely remember ending up with one of the mini game toys though, from a garage sale lol. Sadly not Sonic - I think it was soccer related?
@@Mariathinking I recently found our stash of them, and most of them work! I think only the Tales and Maraca Monkey ones have dead batteries last I checked
I'm always amazed how people can name so many collections just from the top of their head! Well done, Joey! also, to realize that one of your childhood dreams actually came true, so cute!
I'm a huge My Little pony fan along with being a doll collector. I don't remember McDonald's ever having a My Little pony with rooted hair and tail. The ones I always remember getting either had one or the other, where the tail or the mane would be molded on, and the other would be rooted hair. I love the Happy meal Barbies, especially the ones that have basic articulation and are not in a specific pose (like the one that's permanently on a bike or permanently in a ballerina pose or something) I also remember having the same reaction whenever the McDonald's employee would always give me a Hot Wheels car, and I'd have to go back and ask them to trade it for a Barbie toy. I also agree, I hate when they do Barbie related Happy meal toys but it's like a keychain or something. I always wanted a doll and none of the accessories.
this particular MLP was only available in certain european countries so that's probably why you don't remember her! there were 4 in the set, this one's name is star bright
I have every single one in the bags, and out. I have collected them for years. I'm 46 and I just love to see a man your age so involved and educated about Barbie, it is so refreshing. I adore your channel.
This video was uploaded on my birthday and watching it made me smile so wide- it took me back to my childhood. I actually got the little happy meal Barbie with the nail stickers! It was so fun to see her in the video, since I actually really liked her and played with her regularly. The nail art stickers I think only lasted like a week or two since I've put different ones on my nails every day. From what I remember they did not last too long (even with putting clear varnish on top to seal them in)- but I still rocked them!
I remember always wanting a whole collection! Urgh! And I remember that the employees always looked inside our car to decide what I wanted a “boy” toy 🙄
the fact you can just automatically name what barbies they are blows my mind so gooood! thankyou for opening these and living out our childhoods we really wanted xx
We would always eat at McDonalds when we were at a shopping mall as kids (bout once a month, so it was pretty special for us). I remember that we always had to finish our food before getting to open our toys. Great times
I found one of these Barbies, on a pink kimono, she's the cutest thing ever 💖 And I never had her on my childhood, but always wanted her, so it was a great flea market find ✨
Ahhh the nostalgia💖💖 I had the barbie nails one and used to paste the stickers in the star instead lol. I also had the pink/purple brush + mirror that is shown in the picture collection, can't remember if it was just that or included a doll but of course brushed their hair with it
You were born just a year after me, so a lot of those things that are very nostalgic for you also hit home for me! I always loved getting the tiny Barbies in my happy meals! They definitely don’t make the toys like hey used to! And that pager brings back so many memories 😆
okay first off love the pretty blue nails second yes I remember these 2000's barbie mcdonalds happy meal toys I had this christie one and to me she looked like a popstar it gave me like lizzie mcguire movie what dreams are made of vibes from her outfit , I had 2 of that one actually as for McDonalds as a kid I totally agree with the gender thing I had to actually ask my mom to get the boy toys when they actually had something I liked (mostly the pokemon ones) some of the boys toys were cool though ngl I had a lot of the mcdonalds girls toys though , trying to think , had a few barbie ones, mlp ones, trollz tv show ones,a groovy girls one at some point, bratz ones, diva stars ones, american girl doll ones, etc and so forth I still have my mcdonalds neopets collection
I have one of those Barbie toys from 2002 that came in the rigid plastic. I found her at a garage sale and I was actually impressed with the quality for a McDonald's toy. I miss my McDonald's Happy Meals!
My barbie happy meal toys are different from these... maybe it's because it's from 2003 to 2007. But it was some very good quality dolls, with clothes and real hair!
I loooved the Happy Meals toys and if it was a Barbie related one I was extra excited! So nice remembering these. Thanks for the nice fuzzy nostalgic feeling!
I was obsessed with collecting these as a kid and still have a bunch of them. For awhile it seemed like it was always in August. I wish they still had these because my daughter would love them. A few years ago Burger King had Barbie kid's meal toys and it was just wrong.
There is an antique store near me that has an old Barbie/Hot Wheels McDonalds display. Most of the Hot Wheels are gone, but the Barbies are still there.
I love your videos, you break up the monotony of all the same doll reviews on other channels. I look forward to them all the time. I loved collecting the Madame Alexander Happy Meal dolls, they were so well detailed and they were adorable. Keep posting these kind of videos, I enjoy them so much!
My mom used to work in McDonald's in Germany as a refugee. Some people would be outraged to work in McDonald's as a maths and physics teacher, but it was a step up after working as a maid. I remember bringing đe a lot of Hot wheels and Barbie toys. I love the old barbie dolls in happy meal. It brings fond memories and I was so in love with them. I would build them a city out of wooden bricks and kinder surprise toys
also! that tori doll is soooo nostalgic for me, I loved it at a kid sooo much so I rebought her a few years ago as a collector but sold her recently with a bundle. this makes me wanna rebuy again haha
Omg, I would have absolutely adored these, but I was a late 2000s/ early 2010s kid and they were a bit before my time.. also i don't even know if they ever had these in my country lol. Lovely video!
Our Happy Meals came in boxes here in the States too. Not sure what they do today. I remember my favorite Happy Meal toys were little, posable Bambi figures. 😄
10:17 I've had a lot of experience with McDonald's toys particularly with the ones with mirrors (I love compacts and the weird kid with an obsession with magical girls) anyway, you might want to check if it has a peelable clear sticker attached to the mirror removing it will make it work like an actual mirror
I have such fond memories of going to McDonald's and choosing a toy... although I don't remember having many Barbie toys available in happy meals here in Brazil
I actually remember the stands a lot better than the actual dolls themselves, lol. The way they were designed, they made really good pretend cookies for tea parties.
As a McDonald’s employee, whenever we get happy meals coming through, I always ask what toy they would want. We still have the Disney train, the new Cars toys, AND Encanto figures. It only adds a few more seconds. Little 5 year old me would’ve died for any of these, and I totally agree with the boys/girls toys discussion.
That's so funny.... I recently bought me the whole line of Hollywood Nails Barbie... Since Mattel is not really exciting... I am just buying lines from the past....
In Poland I still see boys/girls type of toys. Usually it's Barbie/HotWheels, My Little Pony/Transformers, Hello Kitty/Pokemon and now it's Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir/Monstertrucks
I‘ve never been at McDonalds or something similar so far. 😅 But I feel like these vintage McDonalds Barbie toys are probably still better than regular Barbies from 2023. The boys and girls toy thing though: When I was younger I would still get little toys similar to McDonalds toys at the dentist (not anymore of course, and I go to a different dentist now anyways). They had 3 drawers full of little toys, plastic bracelets etc. The upper drawer was the girls‘ toys drawer, the 2nd upper one was the girls jewellery drawer, and the 2 bottom drawers were boys toys (4 drawers in total. Why do I remember this? -> I never missed the annual appointments which were 2 times a year and my milk teeth had caries pretty often, + I had a giant gap between my front teeth that had to be fixed). I would get to choose a toy after every appointment. I was allowed to choose any toy from any drawer, but the dentist just normally expected me to choose a ”girls toy“ bc every other girl did that. But instead I chose a ”boys toy“ where you had to press a button and there was a mechanism and something at the top would spin around. He looked at me with giant eyes and said I was the first girl ever at his dental office who prefers the ”boys toys“. 🥲 hehe
This was a really fun idea :) I only remember things coming in small bags, not like the one you have, here in America. Also we didn't even get a choice of what we wanted. When we ordered a happy meal, they would just throw whatever they wanted in the bag with the food, and you had to take it. I had times when I didn't even get Barbie, but a boy type toy which I didn't want :( I guess it depends on where you lived as to how they did the distribution of toys. Great video dear :)
I actually had a story about the butterfly compact. I remember getting that in my happy meal in 2002 and being very disappointed. My grandma said to go in and ask for a doll instead and they gave me the Chair Flair Teresa one! I was so overjoyed! I went through three of her that I still have. I also eventually got Pop Sensation Christie too. It's funny though cause now I actually want the compact because I love the butterfly on Teresa's top. I should warn you though that the cheap polypropylene type hair on Teresa has a tendency to dry rot and disintegrate. I've had to reroot all three of my childhood ones.
Burger King had the entire Pocahontas movie cast in their kids' meal. As a mom, we collected them all and I seriously bullied the poor drive through person for the Pocahontas doll. I got them all, but it's an icky memory lol.
I played with Barbies and hot wheels both. Don’t see any reason why a kid can’t. Also anyone remember the kids frank set from McDonald’s??? They were AMAZING. Bring back the old school McDonald’s toys.
yup... that happened to me too, being forced the boy toys... also one time a woman said you want the boy toy obviously. that one is for girls and it really upset me when I was younger. esp as I am trans
