Found you for the first time today. Consider this. Born in Maelor Hospital in Wrexham, 1946, Dad on duty as signalman at Croes Newydd/North Fork signal box, travelled the line many times to visit friends in Bala and kin in Dolgellau, sleeping in the netting of the luggage rack on the way home. Oh, happy days. Tears coming....

I always dreamed that the railway would once again connect Llangollen and Bala. Two of Wales premier heritage towns. The resulting inflo of tourist revenue would spill out along the route to all the towns and villages. The blending of culture one end and the excitement of water sports and some of the best sailing in Wales.the other. Keep going please.

So good to see this. What is amazing is that many preserved railways have reached, or are approaching 50 years of operation. THat is twice as long as the ‘big 4’ ( lms, lner etc) and as long as the nationalised British Railways.

I absolutely love how No. 1's high pitch whistle going low for a brief moment before stopping at 11:25 makes a sort of "Tuunnel!" announcment and then a "Clear!" as the whistle is blown again when it exits the tunnel. Steam trains are so damn cool, with little things like that I can't help but feel they really are living things lol

The use of redundant canopy columns at Corwen adds a real poignancy to the location - it really does look as though it has always been there! What a wonderful day it must have been for all concerned. Mrs tac and I wish the Llangollen Railway every success.

I was at Llangollen in September 2020. My wife and I were travelling from Belfast via the Dublin to Holyhead ferry to Oxford to visit our daughter who had started a new post in the hospital. I made a quick detour to get some lunch and got to see the station for the first time. I made certain that we stayed overnight on our return so I could visit again. We stopped at Carrog to watch a train hauled by Foxcote Manor arrive and the locomotive run round. I’m so pleased that the railway has reached Corwen. It is a well deserved achievement. Maybe some day I will manage a visit and actually take a journey on the railway.

Had the privilege of riding the railwayfor the Classic Vehicle week-end on 1st/2 nd July. All concerned have done a great job extending the line to Corwen and I have to say, the volunteer staff are so friendly and helpful. The Dee valley is beautiful and you really get to see it in all its glory from the railway.. My only fear, not only for the Llangollen Railway but other heritage lines as well, is the price of coal - I was told by several people (not confirmed) that coal is now £5-600 per ton! That is just ridiculous and it has to come from Kazakstan - how green is that!

Congratulations to all who were part of this wonderful project. My maternal Grandfather moved to Corwen to work on the railway at Corwen Station, he and his family lived in a cottage opposite the station, my mother was born in one of the cottages in 1920. My family and I have visited the area several times. My Grandfathers brother and family lived in Bala and also worked on the railways. I feel very proud to be connected to the area. I will endeavour to visit the reopened station with my family in the near future, health permitting (we are in our late 70s).

Austin No1 might have broken the tape (and quite rightly so) but it's our little Austerity that has kept them in steam for the last couple of years :) As a trustee of the Austerity (and a couple of other locos) very proud to have been invited to the reopening and of course was good to see you and your assistant(!) too :)

@levelcrossing150

Austin 1 was there from the start and so we have a special affection for her. We can remember the people that kept her going who have long since passed. All the locos are important to the railway especially the Austerity which has played an important role in keeping the line going over more difficult times.
@tonystrainsofrugby6871
@tonystrainsofrugby6871 Год назад
@@levelcrossing150 as said we fully understand why it did the job and what a wonderful thing to be the engine that started it all to "finish the job" as it were was meant more how pleased and proud we are as a trust to have been able to assist the revitalisation by providing our engine to keep Llangollen in steam as it were. The other bonus being the money she's been earning will help pay for the return to steam of our LMS 3F next year hopefully. Also very pleased that our Austerity looks set to be staying with you for the remainder of 2023 too. Hopefully the 3F will make an appearance with you guys when the time is right too :)

Just over 10 years ago, when I reached what would normally be retirement age, I treated myself to a small woodland which overlooks the Horseshoe Falls; so I am able to listen and watch as the Trains go by, and hear their whistle as they approach the tunnel. I'm not a 'Railway Enthusiast' as such: but I was fortunate enough to do a lot of work for railway companies and even helped to fit OTMR, AWS etc to some famous Locos: Britania, K4, No. 9 and others. Very interesting work. I think it is fantastic what can be achieved by determined volunteers.

Looking at the satellite images, there's little obstruction as far as buildings go if they want to relink to the Bala Lake Railway and head north to a mainline connection at Blaenau Ffestiniog. We had 600 mm narrow gauge locomotives in Germany(and what today is Namibia) that were built to run in pairs. One half even had the roof a bit higher so that it could go above the roof of the other half. Basically the whole thing was a 0-6-0+0-6-0 and a bit similar to a Fairlie. The cabs were open at the rear so that one crew could operate both locomotives. Both halves were complete locomotives and could (and did) run on their own.

It would be lovely if the full line was open, A train from Barmouth ,Dolgellau,Bala,Corwen ,Carrog,Glyndyfrdwy,Llangollen to Ruabon then merge on to the Wrexham Line to Wrexham General . It is a shame the land just out side Llangollen has been built on, back in the day you could catch the train in Wrexham all the way to Barmouth the only way to do that now is the T3 bus. I was at Corwen Station last summer about late August/September and it was looking good then That Beaching bloke killed a lot of railway's in this country once again uk goverment interfering in Wales A lot of village's were connected by railways especially around the Wrexham area the local coal mines ,Brymbo steel works apart from the main lines it's gone Great video i must get on the line again for another steam adventure Take care and enjoy your next adventure😀🛤🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃👍👍👍

@@lmm A valid point ,Lawrie and the Llangollen railway is amazing been on it many a time including Thomas the tank engine with my son when he was young ,and it is local to me I am only about 12 miles away near Wrexham but up to the 1960's these were service and cargo lines, At the end of the day it is good to see these engines and trains alive and running Thanks for the feed back mate🚂👍

I've always found it interesting how American steam locomotives have big honkin' chonkin' headlights and reversing lights permanently attached to the locomotive and tender, (Which originally burned whale oil or kerosene, but were eventually electrified) While almost every other country used those tiny little things that had to be installed and removed, which also never got electrified as far as I know. And realistically, how much light do those little things actually put out?
@lmm
@lmm Год назад
They're marker lights. The position tell you what the approaching train is. We didn't have lights on the locos to see

@@lmm Ah, that explains a lot, we have marker lights and class lights too, though running at night without a headlight seems rather dangerous, no?
