We are nearly at the end of our trip across the beautiful island of Java, here in Indonesia! We started in Jakarta, the capital, and have eaten our way across to Bandung and Yogyakarta. Brian from the coffee shop can just keep mum about the lounge so you can spend more in the cafe where he worked but Indonesian being Indonesian, being not selfish and inform both of you that you guys can actually access the lounge for free with air conditioning. Petugas-petugas KAI di Jogja, bahasa Inggrisnya lebih fasih daripada petugas-petugas KAI di Jakarta. Agak unik, mungkin sedikit terbalik karena Jakarta adalah de facto ibukota Indonesia sampai setidaknya 16 Agustus 2024. Ternyata, jika suatu area merupakan destinasi wisata yang populer di dunia internasional (misal Jogja dan Bali), warga lokalnya cenderung lebih aktif belajar bahasa Inggris.

Fun fact is, one of the first task Mr. Ignasius Jonan handled when he was appointed as the Director of KAI was the toilets! He stated that, toilet is the basic yet fundamental things so he started from that. He did a very very magnificent job in transforming Indonesian train into the better. Years ago, Indonesian train is in a super depressing condition. Thanks to Mr. Jonan & team, now KAI is awesome.

because if they don’t keep toilets clean in indonesia, we basically will riot 😭 even when we go overseas it’s the one thing we complain about in common. toilets in europe (even singapore) are disgusting to me personally 😭

We can have that too if we allow Chinese to help build trains and high speed rail. Instead of all these anti China hate in the US media every day. Vietnam initially said no to Chinese rail too but Laos and Cambodia are building high speed rail and they didn't want to be left behind. Pretty much the entire world will have high speed rail except USA and a few anti China countries.

Indonesia basic salary is around £140- £230 a month ..so to get a train ticket for half/third of their salary is ridicoulous...that's why Indonesia is a very very very very expensive country. still feel jealous?

i've worked in south korea (21010-2015) as a low level worker at manufacture ,i get 5200 krw hourly, i can buy a hanwoo (A++) for 15.000 krw, pizza for 15.000-20.000, bus ticket is only 1000-1200. my salary is around 1.8m - 2.2 m, i bught a plane ticket incheon- jakarta - incheon for only 1.5m now i worked as a grab bike driver and here i know a lot of normal people spend 25% - 35% of their salary for their daily transportation (public), it will be cheaper if they use motorcycle, for rich people maybe they only spend 5-10% thats how i know the difference between affordable and stupid expensive country

Not only the Indonesian train attendat is beautiful and cool, but also their uniform too. And I think their hospitality is one of the best. I miss taking train from Jakarta to Yogya. Such a nice and unforgetable memory :).

Still indonesian government companies lacked on providing information, they never provide important information such as high speed train on free connection train to bandung, lounge previlege to those VIP holders, and many more. They thought being nice is enough for the service but ignoring the real deal values

Every passenger suite class, or first class have free lounge before onboard to train. And KAI have special wagon where you rent if you travel with big group. Special wagon have special name.

An Indonesian here. Having lived in the UK, I do not remember seeing anything like that on most trains in the UK (including the Cross Country). I now live in New Zealand, and passenger trains are rare in this country. Missing Indonesia so badly.

SOOO, about the different prices for the same class, it's actually a way for the ticket providers to entice passengers to book sooner. The sooner they book the ticket, the more abundant the selection for cheaper prices will be. Everything else (facilities, ammenities, seats) is the same.

3:41 The pricing is inspired by airplane fare system. The letters are "sub-class" and each of them will get deleted more and more until the day of departure. So for example, in the first day of sale (45 days before your chosen departure date) every sub-classes will appear and you can choose which one is the cheapest. The service & facilities are the same across every sub-class (except if you choose other class like Compartment, Panoramic, Luxury, etc). As days goes by, more sub-classes will get deleted and you will end up only with the most expensive sub-class just before the departure day. The system incentivize you to buy ticket earlier. Hope this helps! :D

@@Spearhamsame facilities on all front; but sometimes cheaper sub-class will be limited to some 'less desirable' part of trains, like a few trains directly behind the loco for example. More expensive sub-class will give you option to book seats in better location (say, closer to dining car, or farther from loco). This option might already changed tho, but when I was frequent train-user, I always pick the cheapest sub-class and could only book a seat in the train car directly behind the loco 😂

As I saw in the video the back of your seat was stuck to the back of the cabin but actually you can move the seat a bit forward via the control panel and yeah lay it completely flat. Good for sleep in a long journey from Jakarta to Surabaya. And the seat can swivel around so you can face the window of the train if you want to enjoy the scenery of Java, leg room a bit compromised tho😊

ahh surabaya, it reminds me a lot of my ex-girlfriend when i was still in college, she studied there and i occasionally visited her for a night or two every weekend while i studied in the neighboring city, malang. it only takes about 2 hours on a commuter line train or 1 and a half hours driving through toll roads (if there's no traffic jam :P). thank you, it really brings back my college memories with my ex and my friends. now i can just wait for your next video in surabaya as i'm watching from amsterdam. i do really miss surabaya and indonesia. i hope i can find better paid job in indonesia instead of being expat in the europe.

Me as an Indonesian actually surprised of the way everything goes fancily smooth, like every-thing. I haven’t been on another train ride since 2017 and back then trains were far away from the word luxury. I’d definitely try travel with trains again sometime 👍🏻

We went through Indonesia I 1995, Bali, Sumatra, Java, Lombok, Suluwasi etc. It was was unbelievable, l think we got the best of Indonesia. No luxury trains then.
