I'm so happy Mark Spats came up with that... I was wondering why my AOS5 feels like it snaps into predefined angles instead of translating gentle moves - and thought it was that Jitter that CRSF3 solves. Turns out the main issue was this ADC-Filter being on and cuasing a step-curve in my stick-reading in Betaflight. Good idea to cover that for the masses :3 Now who still needs Hypersmooth!

This seems even more important in BF 4.3. I just flashed it and my quad was completely uncontrollable with this on. Blackbox logs showed a super choppy stick setpoint. I was using rc_smoothing_auto_smoothness=50 in BF 4.2 which yielded a super nice stick setpoint, but thats no longer a config option in 4.3. I guess the auto smoothing on BF 4.3 + ADC filter yields bad results. For context I use ELRS on a T-lite.

i find it very hard to freestyle on the polar camera compared to the regular dji/nebula pro, its not just the latency, its a way more zoomed in image that feels almost like a 4:3 image stretched to 16:9... the polar is a great camera for long range though as it has great low light and the zoomed in image i prefer in longrange too.... i can get an extra 20-30 min of sunset flying in its soo good in lowlight, now we just need a large sensor gopro to capture that lowlight as well
@willedwards7679
@willedwards7679 2 года назад
Considering they are identical in every aspect except for the camera and vtx you can assume that it was a combination of weight and the frame style that will affect flying ability. Potentially the camera also was not what he was used to but that won’t change how it flies
@badfourlife
@badfourlife 2 года назад
@@willedwards7679 i really dont get much difference in handling with deadcats vs x's, its easier to get better propwash performance and stability on the X but once deadcats are properly balanced and tuned its hard to tell the difference.... now if i changed the camera from og DJI to polar camera i would have so much trouble freestyling it... in fact JB had trouble freestyling the polar when he was doing a review of it and figured it must of been the added latency, although i dont think he considered the negative aspect of the lower fov... i can freestyle the dji cam in high quality 4:3 as well so i know its not just the added latency of the polar.... hopefully more cameras in stock soon so you can swap it out if your into lower latency freestyle

Shouldn't the filter on the tx be much faster than on betaflight? Max sampling rate in BF is whatever your RF command rate is (i.e. Crossfire 150 Hz), but the local ADC could be sampling at 1000 Hz. This should give it a way more efficient LPF. Why isn't this the case?
@willedwards7679
@willedwards7679 2 года назад
Because you add latency for the filter on your tx and then on top of that beta flight will still be running the same filters to remove jitter adding more latency. If you turn off the setting it will remove that first setting and only your fc will be running a filter, if that makes sense?

If this is about improving latency, how is having ADC filter on decreasing latency? The transmitter has a transmit loop that sends the channel values at regular cycle. What am I missing? Would love to see OpenTX control log files and BlackBox log files from Betaflight compared to show the differences with/out the ADC filtering. Maybe its a real thing, or just a setting to prove your are one of the cool kids. 🤔
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 2 года назад
ADC filter on increases latency, not decreases it. It's something like a three sample moving average so it adds three samples of delay.
@AerialWaviator
@AerialWaviator 2 года назад
@@JoshuaBardwell Averaging 3 samples doesn't necessary mean, there is a delay. The previous two readings (buffered in memory) could be averaged with current (time) values and sent within same timeframe as single reading. Would have to look at code, to verify, but would be dumb if OpenTx code waited for every 3 sample periods before sending. This would not be a moving average, just average of 3 values. (ie: would be be like pixelating a linear movement, vs. smoothing) Note: what is being displayed also may not reflect sampling periods. Display updates could occur with much different timing vs when values sampled. Only way to know what is happening latency wise is to collect data on both transmitter, and what flight controller is receiving (logged in blackbox). Triggering a aux switch could be used to sync both datasets.
