This was brilliant. It's the next thing I need to do in setting up my OpenWrt. How about a video on making OpenWrt backups? How do you make yours? Settings, packages list and a full sd card backup for instance.
My home network is plug and play (I don't have a lot of custom configurations, except for the root & wifi password); therefore, I never perform a backup. The other routers are for making the video and as you can see, I have no reason to back them up. However, backup and restore is very simple. Login to LuCI → System → Backup / Flash Firmware, here you will find the option to backup the setting and restore it. More information is available here: openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/troubleshooting/backup_restore To fully backup an SD card, you will need a host device, such as PC/Laptop and the the free disk space at least equal to the size of the SD card, which we don't usually do in daily usage. However, we do have NOR and NAND backup, which is not simple at all and I think once you are ready for advance stuff, you will learn it on your own. openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/installation/generic.backup
My openwrt routers(2unit, both set as dumb AP) is behind main router. So, would be glad to see guide on the said URL in advanced setting. Cos I couldnt opkg update any packages.
If the router/ap is configured as a LAN device/static IP address, you will need to set the gateway (which is your router) and DNS server before you can run opkg update. You can configure this on the LAN interface.
I have follow till 9:42, I couldn't ping the public IP. Request timed out. Packets lost 100%. What is the reason? Maybe my ISP modem not in Bridge mode, as I can see if WAN has different IP with my LAN gateway( WAN)
Glad it work. With the current promotion, you can get a domain for 3 years with only $14 and configure DDNS. This is much more cheaper than no-ip fee for only 1 year.
So I wanted to add it in a tplink router, but they only support noip and diydns, so I guess namecheap will not work right? We need to select the client as namecheap, but since it's not added there, so I guess it will not work.
From where I can grab that URL. BTW, thank you for showing me how to add a namecheap's domain. I brought it a few days ago to manage this issue. EDIT: Got the URL. Thanks
Thank you for this great tutorial, just what I needed. I am trying to setup my ddns to remotely wake up my PC over wan. Question: why did you change your public IP to 1.1.1.1, wouldn't it be updated to 9.9.9.9 anyway when you make the change?
I am trying to update my personal hostname with no-ip (registered with no-ip). Configuration looks okay. I am getting following response from NO-IP: ERROR : IP update not accepted by DDNS Provider. What do you think?
@@VanTechCorner Nope it is not helping. I realized my update_no-ip_com.sh is using /usr/bin/wget-ssl to update a dummy IP --> answering nochg with correct IP address, after that sending real IP to noip.com: no-ip.com answered: nohost I am confused....
In the video there is one section to update the IP via the browser, can you try my guide instead of the sh file. Btw, how is your public IP look like? (You can remove the last 3 characters)
@@VanTechCorner ~my browser return no change~ , it's OK until I see …080702 ERROR: No or private or invalid IP 'x.x.x.x' given!…ERROR: No update send to DDNS provider. 🤔 need to get an IP from my ISP?
