I legit think that getting attached to the soundtrack before finishing the game is just gonna make it all hit that much harder The moment of the context finally clicking is going to be such a sweet release
100%. didn't happen to me with the whole soundtrack, but it did happen with one track - hopes and dreams. I can confirm that it hit hard as hell lmao, it was an experience i won't forget
Just wanna mention, This was Done in Japan, because Undertale has a *wonderful* Following there. The game was not just very popular in america, but became an utter classic in Japan as well
Relistening, I noticed something new about the track Determination (19:59). This is the track that plays when you die, while a voice tells you not to give up, that the future of monsters depends on you... If you confront Toriel, flee from her battle and go to sleep in the bed, essentially giving up and accepting your fate to live with her in the ruins, that same voice pushes you to wake up and keep going. Putting it at this point between Home and Heartache essentially makes it into the deciding moment where something within you makes you choose to push forward.
Can't believe it's been 2 years since I watched the concert live, lowkey one of the best moments of the fandom cause we all got together and just relived through the entire story again, emotions amplified by the quality of this orchestra. The first time I got really emotional towards the end, esp Hopes and Dreams and His Theme lol. Glad you got around to listening to it too! :) The only song that I'm kinda sad they didn't get around to (other than Long Elevator LOL) is It's Raining Somewhere Else, my favorite of the ost but then again this was a long concert so yeah ^^'
@@jasmine1432 well it make sense plus let's not forget that this is an actual orchestra which mean it's not usually their job to play something as jazzy and funky as "dummy" it would be like asking a group of international chef with decade of experience to make a hamburger. That doesn't mean the hamburger is bad it's just not what they're worked for
I understand that it's traditional orchestral instrumentation, but there's a fair few songs (like Papyrus's theme) that are really just begging to be big and brassy

im really sorry people were dumb on your playthrough video man! i hope you enjoy the game regardless. not sure why folks are so insistent on spoiling or being picky about how the game is played when the point of the game is to play it your own way and discover it! love your reactions btw, take care!
I stayed up way too late watching this concert live….watching all of the hearts representing the human SOULs scroll by in chat, and all the obvious love and emotion that fans feel for this game and music…it was quite powerful. This is definitely one of the greatest video game music concerts ever and I return to it frequently
I wanna say something. Before I played I played Undertale, I knew all the lore and the song "Megalovina". I was megaspoiled. But when I finnaly played the game this year, I was surprized by how many things I didnt know about the game. When I first entered "New home" and I heard "Undertale" I started to tear up and when I finished the true pacifist ending, I was litterally crying like a baby, besides knowing what was going to happen. This game was the fist game that litteraly made cry. Thats why its soundtrack has a special place in my heart. I will always love it Edit: After recent events, my class's headteacher had died because of cancer. We first thought that it was apendiciete, but we didnt know that it was that serious. Now, he passed away and this song reminds me of him. Rest in peace, my teacher, you didnt deserve to die.
Tears form up whenever I listen to certain tracks from this game. I feel.... so many things I can't count. From a game that can be finished in well under 8 hours. Joy, triumph, sorrow, longing, pain, delight, nostalgia and oh so much more. Curious, when you listen to something out of context and then see it and let it click. One thing only recently struck me, but I am amused nonetheless... Papyrus, his whole gimmick revolves around Puzzles and how proud he is of them. His theme... reminds me of Tetris. The most famous puzzle game. I am face palming at this realization. Also, looking at a video someone did on Papyrus' theme, he also had no context and was commenting on how "upbeat and cheerful" it is. Like, the notes hit on the upbeat rather than the down beat, making it more playful. Papyrus will never really hurt you. If you lose to him, you get to see the inside of that locked shed in Snowdin. Lose to him 3 times and well... it's a treat :) He is terminally cheerful.
* Fun fact: Only about half the OST was played here (51/101 songs + 2/3 Switch-exclusives) and it's still about the length of the whole soundtrack without any of the intermissions or breaks (roughly 2 hours and 13 minutes)
It's crazy to see that one melody pop up in like every other song, and still feel so organic. Also, This gives me hope to maybe see you react to a Monster Hunter concert. They're always fantastic!
This concert is delightful. The beauty of the Undertale soundtrack is that it is the music of a story, an adventure. If you don't know what happens in the game, you can still enjoy it all. You can imagine what's happening. Toby Fox composes musical adventures. That's how I got into Undertale and the successor, Deltarune. I listened to the soundtracks and had to know the story.
Wow, going through the comment section, I have noticed EVERY single one hearted by Marco. Man, that is dedication. I wanted to take a moment and thank you for providing such wonderful content and reacting to the Undertale Orchestral suite for us. I heartily enjoy your content, and greatly look forward to future content, and am absolutely stoked for an Undertale let's play series from you! I do agree with the general concensus of playing through the game in its entirety, however far you wish to take it, and editing it in portions for release afterwards, as the best experience is completely blind and discovering things yourself. Best of luck with your journey, Marco!
DEFINITELY a Let’s Play style!!! We want to see your reactions to the game as you play! If you record it all ahead of time and release it in edited chunks I’d be SO excited for that. That said, whatever you decide is best for you and your channel I’m all for it. Wait you just said “maybe I’ll do both”??? Yes please! Honestly can’t get enough Undertale content, that’s how I found your channel, but I also LOVE in-depth music analysis by pros, so I’d absolutely love both please in summary, I will watch the entirety of any and all undertale content you make, and most of any other video game stuff too
The first time I got to see an orchestra play in person was the final performance of the Undertale Interactive Concert. Experiencing even a fraction of this soundtrack in person made me feel so many things I never felt before! Thankyou so much for finally reacting to this; keep up the incredible work!! :)
Ill take any excuse to listen to this again. The ensemble killed it. The feeling I get when listening to the games I play in my off-time as a hobby get recognition in a scale like this is something I cant describe. Often times I feel like the moments and memories in games are treated as childish or fake to an extent and its just nice to know that there are millions of people who put real value into such moments even if im not presented that opinion on a daily basis. To you Marco I hope your experience with Undertale in the future is filled with some (for lack of better words) wonderful moments. Also, Hope you are having a good day.
love your comments on waterfall because it really is a culmination of so many emotions storywise too. A place of mourning, regret, history, and wishes. its all captured just so beautifully
Undertale and Hollow Knight are on a complete different level, when it comes to music. I often feel like so much emotion is poured into these songs, that they overshadow most music made in this day and age. So many Idols, Popstars and the likes write music, but they feel so empty and convey nothing of what the lyrics describe. Yet, here we have music without lyrics conveying so much more emotions than I could point my finger at. And no matter how many times I listen to them, they get me all the time.
I've watched this concert so many times yet it still makes me feel so much. Thank you for reacting to the concert (and giving me an excuse to watch it again)
YESSS LET'S GOOO I missed the live but so excited to watch this. I watched the concert live when it was streamed. Seeing all the fans freak out at every song was fantastic.
Being there watching the livestream 2 years ago was one of my favorite experiences ever, been a huge fan of the game since 2015 and the OST has been there with me for many moments in my life, it means so much to me, and to see it brought to such heights was beautiful. There was a real sense of community that day, saw multiple friends, content creators I followed, random people on twitter I've never interacted with all comment live on the concert, you could truly feel how many people this game has impacted, it brought tears to my eyes then and it does now. Very nice reaction, I love seeing people who actually do know their stuff give sense to all of this, as someone who knows not a whole lot about music, it's really cool to see. I'm sorry your experience playing the game hasn't been the best due to the fandom, I was there in 2016 when it was at it's worst, and it saddens me to know things aren't that much different now, but I hope you can still keep enjoying the experience on your own, and we'll eventually get to see it, both ideas you proposed sound wonderful, I'm extremely excited for that. Thanks a lot Marco!!!
I’m so sad I missed the stream, but glad I’m still able to see your reaction! They did so well with arranging these songs and honestly I like some of the songs better orchestrated, like Waterfall/Quiet Water and Reunited. They also really popped off for Spider Dance and Hopes and Dreams, holy shit; honestly, the entire second part of the concert was so well done. Hearing Fallen Down and Undertale orchestrated definitely made me cry a little haha, this game means a lot to me.
Once again I truly apologize on behalf of the fandom for the immature, overly passionate fans who can't keep the spoilers to themselves. I'm just glad you've at least kept the music reaction videos on the channel, and hope that you at least enjoy the game itself even with your experience with parts of the fandom.
This soundtrack brings me to my knees when I hear it, how much this game formed me can never ever be understated. Ever. Thank you Toby. I will never be able to express the meaning Toby and Temmie's and everyone else who helped on Undertale's impact on me. Great reaction too Marco, just found you told but already binging through the content.
Oh man, this was a treat. Taking something I adored in college and mixing it with my old ballet/band days. I found myself actually dancing in my kitchen to this, making character movements and motions as if this was transcribed to dance. Thanks for sharing this and letting me feel something so special again.
All I can say about Gaster (won't spoil much), Gaster or W. D. Gaster, he's a secret mentioned character. In the game, when you try to name that exist in the game (Flowey, Toriel, Sans etc.), it will not allow you to use those names. But if you named Gaster, it will reset you to the title story scene immediately.
I presume the sharp-looking violinist with the glasses is akin to a leader among his instrument, but goddamn how can someone look this chiseled, you can feel the chad energy oozing from this mans instrument.
Marco! Congrats on 100k!! I suggested this a while back but you would LOVE the video game concert called SCORE which is recorded by the Swedish Radio Symphony. Its a fantastic recording and the arrangements are amazing. It covers everything from Zelda to Final Fantasy to Bloodborne to Skyrim! Its truly a great line up.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane of both the game soundtrack and hearing this performance again! Glad you seem to enjoy it now the next thing on the undertale to-do list would be to check out the musical after of course you have beaten the games neutral and pacifist route that is! You will get to appreciate both the music and some very talented vocalists
There's some interesting choices in the sequence these songs were put in! (I don't think I'm spoiling anything that hasn't already been spoiled, but just in case, the last paragraph can safely be skipped.) Putting "Fallen Down" after "Heartache" turns it from a first encounter into a goodbye. Sliding "Quiet Water" into "Waterfall" is a little reprieve from the intensity, but also kinda puts all the monsters living there in the middle of the song lamenting their tragedy. "Memories" is kinda recontextualized altogether! And "She's Playing Piano" actually comes far later, but adds a moment of Undyne's emotional depth right into the moment where she's trying to kill you. They skipped most of Hotland for pacing (valid), but did keep Spider Dance because it's a banger. Not a comment on the orchestra itself, but your assessment of the Amalgamate track is so hilariously accurate. I would not even have thought of it myself, but it makes all the sense. "Small Shock"... is not just Small Shock. They made it so much more for its role in this arrangement, and your assessment is so right it made me burst out almost cry-laughing. "Menu (full)" in that position to depict the happily ever after only to destroy it in an instant. Brutal. Toriel... Papyrus... Man... They way they chose to end it is so heartbreaking. With the non-musical elements, too, of the lights dimming and everyone leaving. It's sad to end on such a note, but I guess there's no other way to fully express the breadth of this narrative.
I realize it’s a bit late to say this, but please don’t let other people shape your experience with undertale. I think you’ve seen it first hand, but people can get ‘weird’ about the game. Which is a shame because it often taints the enjoyment for new players. Personally, I think undertale can speak for itself. Like parts people don’t, that’s fine. Despise parts others love, that’s good to. It’s a game about heart, and I think too often the community misses that.
For my comments, check out the original video. I may recreate a few here. 11:02 Hate that the piano is such low volume because this is the exact piano model used for most of the OST 14:08 Music ENGINE is so sharp in these. Especially by the time Waterfall, DbG and BGTK roll around. Those are just as good as the game's versions, arguably better! 15:35 I still absolutely adore the little xylophone on the side 18:32 Playing the imperfections must have been weird :) 21:52 Piano is the best instrument in general for me, but the sharp, quick tones of Toby's music can only really be portrayed by 4 hands on piano 24:42 Well it's supposed to be portraying Vocals 28:01 Ever since I got told abou the Mitsuda Lick I love it to bits. Especially when you don't expect it, like BAATH 30:52 Truly great. 34:32 ... 40:12 These two songs are brilliant. 40:42 This is my fave part of them. Feels so dynamic and what I associate with flamenco 46:31 No Dummy hurts my soul tho 50:50 Another that's just as good as the game 1:40:00??? The biggest shame is that Another Medium never shows up on any adaptation. Third Most underrated song in the OST, was missed here and in the Musical, replaced by CORE. I also hope to see you react to the Omori OST some day
I'd love to see you play the game with analysis of the music! Of course, you'd have to play your preferred playthrough to its entirety before uploading them just so you avoid spoilers (even though you have plenty, sadly). You do you, no one should judge how you play, its YOUR playthrough after all 😁
I really wanna see your playthrough and hear your thoughts on it. If you play it twice or 3 times, I'll watch it all. (If you decide to disable comments on those videos or just delay posting them until you're done with the game, I totally understand. The fanbase just does not know how to hold in spoilers.)
Toby Fox really makes good music. Fits for whatever is happening and just perfect. With some story telling mixed to it, and humour added to the game. (I also recommend playing and listening to Deltarune’s OST, made by Toby aswell)
oh ive watched the undertale soundtrack and deltarune soundtrack vids in the past 2 days and i distinctly remember thinking "man. the anniversary concert was made for this guy. like everyone enjoyed it but god damn this guy would love it." and here we are
I think uou would like listening to the DELTARUNE ost (basically UNDERTALE 2), it has 2 chapters so far, and the music is pretty similar but has his own style, different to undertale
It's always nice to see someone reacting to Undertale's soundtrack, and I'm very happy to see you react to the concert! I also hope that you enjoy Undertale at your own pace! I will add my vote to hopefully seeing you react to Deltarune's soundtrack, and I hope you enjoy it as well! (If you plan on playing Deltarune, please finish playing Undertale first! It's meant for people who have completed Undertale, even if it isn't a sequel.)
What a stream! Hope you also listen to the Deltarune Chapter 1 & 2 OST. It's also great! Maybe not as great as the one from Undertale, but it's still really good!
Some Marco's sounds I found funi!! 28:33 m-pa m-pa m-pa m-pa 31:14 papapapapra 31:43 yopopo po popopo po po po po to poo (chk chk chk) 32:14 a nya-nya song 32:21 mmph~ 33:34 barara ra And I'm not making fun of Marco.
At 42:45 i just realized why does this play. Its undyne plaiyng Alphys theme, i dont remember when it happens but i think you hear it when you pass by Undyne's house. When you do a certain act to Undyne, it reminds her of Alphys. Alphys is like one of the inspirations for why she fights, she fights for the people, for Asgore and Alphys, the most important people in her life. Its kind of her thinking about who keeps her going, who shes fighting for. Idk if i make sense lol
Not sure if it was mentionned but "Mysterious Shrine" and Absolutely Overfamiliar Shrine" were added in the Playstation release of Undertale with related new content.
If you havn't yet you should react to or at least watch "Undertale: the Musical" by Man on the Internet. It's basically the entire game, but it's a musical.
The best part about watching reviewers to the soundtrack is their own personal expertise in the matters. Music is more than just a background sound or just something to make you feel something, music is made to help tell the story. One reviewer I watched could tell the characters mindsets BEFORE EVEN PLAYING the game. That's the power of music. It's not just pretty sounds, they can secretly explain the story, explain the characters, all without visuals or dialogue. "His theme" isn't just a pretty music box sound, it reviels who Asriel truly is: a little kid, full of absolute innocence, but it's so soft like a faded memory. "Heartache" isn't just a powerful song with sadness mixed in, it explains toriels pain. She is determined and fierce, but her heart is cracking with each blow as she is BEGGING us to stop. She loves us and wants to protect us,but it pains her to keep us here. "Bonetrousle" isn't just a funny little song for a funny bone man, it reviels what papyrus is thinking. He's headstrong, willing to push himself. He follows a steady beat, but it's also clear he is going overboard to be impressive. It's an act, but he is pushing it hard
That little thing they did at the start & after the intermission ended wasn't tuning. It was, unexpectedly, the boot up jingle for the PlayStation 3. Unless the boot up sound used for the PS3 is actually orchestral tuning, which would be a cool fact.
Love you content always, too bad I couldn't catch the livestream though. Can you maybe react to undertale the musical by Man on the internet. They cover the undertale music but with lyrics accompanied by many unique voices!
When will you do a Deltarune OST reaction? It's got an equal number of masterpieces by Toby, including but not limited to furnished versions of one of the soundtracks you heard the dog play in the end.
Hey marco i see that your reading these comments I just wanted to be the 1 millionth person to recommend you hollow knight! my god is it such an incredible soundtrack and its the only game ost i put on par with undertale :)
Marco, I beg you, please react to "The call" from League of Legends, or Awaken. They're top quality content, epic music (The Call has great chorus), and the history is just UFFFF
As someone who has watched to many theories, gaster is an elusive character who exists within nonexistance. Non-inmportant to most of the characters histories and lore, but he himself was a crutial reason behind the survival of the monsters. Dig deeper on youtube to find out more about the anomaly that is gaster if you want but i sugest you don't for your own brain and psyche's sake.
