i love how Marco puts more effort on having fun than "beating" the game

In the second fight against Gabriel, he is full of "perfect hatred" because he lost to you the first time. Upon returning to the council after the first fight, he was essentially re-indoctrinated into thinking his divine power (God's Light) is impossible to defeat, and he squandered it against you in the first fight. He doesn't understand how he lost against a mere object. He's frustrated. During the first half of the second fight, Gabriel is screaming insults along the lines of "I can't believe I lost to you" However, during the second half he starts to enjoy the fight. He realizes that "God's Light" can be defeated, and you are capable of doing so. The entire doctrine he believed in has been broken, and after the fight he takes some time to understand what that means for him. Then he does something drastic.

1:09:00 I find it actually beautiful that Marco feels the emotion in this song while fighting the Gutterman and literally gets the whole character and its role in the grand scheme of things just by Hakita's expert-level music design. The Gutterman literally doesn't want to do this anymore, at least the guy inside of him doesn't. It just mindlessly autopilots and shoots at you because that's what it was programmed to do, while the guy in the back is used a battery and kept in eternal agony until you finally put him down. He's quite possibly one of the only enemies in this game that would be doing them a service to kill.

Marco falling off Benjamin and misnaming Maurice gotta be the funniest moments of the stream, I laughed so hard.

I have over 100 hours in this game, and Ultrakill is a game that I’d love to play for the first time again, so it’s cool to see someone’s genuine first-time reaction to stuff I’ve seen a hundred times, not trying to be “Pro”, but just living in the moment and enjoying the game and the music

was a fun premiere, if you were ever wondering where Minos and Sisyphus are, they are behind the big doors with lots of "P" on them, which require you to perfect every level. i would honestly just get a save file from someone that has everything unlocked including secret levels (unless you wanna find them yourself).

I love the lore Hakita has created for this game. One of my favorites is the lore entry regarding the GUTTERMAN. In case you want to learn about it for yourself I won't spoil the log about them except for one part; the GUTTERMAN is what inspired Hell itself to create the mannequins

it's hilarious watching marco completely forget the mechanic that is literally the tagline to the game (blood is fuel) but then he gets absolutely unbelievable parries like 23:06

Who wants more Lore from Dante's Inferno? The Sixth Layer of Heresy is within the City of Dis, which resembles fiery red Mosques. Heretics, who speak against the word of God are punished here, trapped in flaming tombs. Not much to say about Ultrakill here, it was very Red. The Seventh Layer, Violence is guarded by the Minotaur. It is then divided into three rings. The First Ring, representing Violence against Neighbors/Others, is for Murderers, War-makers, Plunderers, Tyrants, etc. They are immersed in Phlegethon, a river of boiling blood and fire, while Centaurs patrol and fire arrows at anyone who emerged out of the river higher than they are allowed. The Second Ring, representing Violence against Self, is for those who attempted to take their own lives. They are transformed into gnarled, thorny trees, fed upon by harpies. They are unable to move, and yet feel pain when they are damaged. Unique among the dead, these souls will not be corporeally resurrected after The Final Judgement. The Third Ring, representing Violence against God, Art and Nature. The great plane of Burning Sand, scorched by great flakes of flame slowly falling from they sky. The Blasphemers, Sodomites and Usurers (Violent against God, Nature and Art respectively) are faced with this unbearing desert for eternity. Encountering this layer in Ultrakill is what got me looking into Dante's Inferno. You can clearly feel the three rings of Violence in the game, Violence against Others, Self, then God/Nature. The Minotaur is the guardian of the Labrynth in the Garden of Forked Paths. You missed the final words in the book there: "The World is your Canvas ... So pick up your Brush ... And Paint ... The World ... RED" The Phlegethon takes to the side in Light up the Night, instead focusing on perpetual war between the machines. In No Sound, No Memory, the enemies can be seen fighting each other amidst the forest of gnarled trees. And you take on the 1000-THR in Like Antennas to Heaven. The Pinnacle of the Great War that scorched the Earth, and the machine you were seemingly designed to defeat. If you pay close attention, you can see another 1000-THR off in the distance engaged in combat with the one you are infiltrating. They periodically fire colossal bolts of electrical energy between each other, blocking them with some form of energy shielding.

i really like how you can vision how the music mixes with the gameplay. for me, i just sort of go along with it and it subconsciously effects how i play but for you its really nice to see how you can pick apart how it progresses and effects the player. love your content

Another great playthrough! Loved it from the first second. In case you still want more Ultrakill, there's more levels such as the secret missions (requiring some exploration and puzzle-solving... sometimes literally) and Prime Sanctums (that require a P-rank on every level). If you're not up for playing them, there's plenty of videos out there of others doing it themselves. Fraud and Treachery are coming soon, hopefully this year, so it is not the end. I hope to see your playthrough of them too, and thanks for playing!

I want you to know that you're the reason I got into Ultrakill in the first place! A while ago you released a video covering the Death of God's Will and it had me so interested that I had to check out the rest of it. Thank you for introducing me to one of my favorite games of all time, even if you didn't play it back then!

For future reference, Marco, a big part of non-success is your lack of healing. Especially with Gabriel. Every time he talks he refuses to attack, so it’s a really good time to get some cheap close shots in and heal up.

I like the part when you enter this long dark corridor in 7-3 and end up in a place where there are already battles going on between different fractions of hell, like different models of machines, types of demons and angels etc., and how it creates the picture of slowly dying world

I honestly don't think Gabriel is particularly evil here. If you read the lore you can see he shows mercy to several of the damned like the ferryman and now that god has vanished he is forced to be a punisher of the wicked, something he most probably hates doing but does it anyway out of duty but no doubt feels a lot of doubt and guilt for the torment that is being put upon the suffering. Then the machine enters and for the first time in his existence he is actually challenged and defeated. Which forces him to stop and take a look at himself and his place in the world which initially brings anger but then gratitude. Anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk!!

You should really check out the secret missions in this game! They added such a charming aspect to the game that really made me fall in love with the game on my first playthrough. The puzzles are super rewarding to solve and there's only really one "combat" secret level so they're not a challenge/hassle or annoying to complete at all in terms of combat because the only time you have to deal with that is when you're finding the secret mission entrance. A lot of the most memorable moments in the game happen during these missions and I think it could be super fun to see you check them out! (or you could do so in your own time of course in case you don't want to publish that experience) ♥

I love your playthrough of this game just because of how difficult it is to find anyone who doesn’t play on violent difficulty. Most Ultrakill gameplay on YT is of gamers flying at Mach 10 doing trickshots and instantly killing Cerberus in endless mode, so a unique perspective as yours not only on the gameplay but also the theming is super refreshing.

"How many had he killed? Had he ever thought to count? How much cruelty did he embody... and to what end? How many did he condemn to hell and who did it benefit..?" I find this introspection by Gabriel so interesting because he could be talking about V1 (you), but he could just as easily be talking about himself or even God. All three had shown cruelty, and all killed others in vain. Sentencing to hell or just assisting? The fact that Gabriel never mentions V1 as a he, but only as a machine or a thing supports this heavily.

If you look in the controls there's an area to change your arm punches to be different buttons entirely so you can instantly punch with whatever arm you want instead of one button making you swap arms and you have to remember which one you're on, just in case you'd prefer that since the single button swapping can feel awkward at times.

You've been conditioned to think that the Violence Layer is all going to be similar to 7-1, and even walking into 7-2 you still have that same sense, until those doors open and everything changes. You've just been in the Labyrinth at the edge of the Violence layer, now you're in the actual layer and you're immediately thrown into a completely different, unsettling environment. Amazing work by Hakita, and I love Marco's genuine reactions to moments like this. Watching him do the level outside of the intended order was fun. 7-3 EDITS: He forgot the Gutterman terminal entry, but 1:28:58 tree jumpscare.1:35:15 This scared me lol, I hate mannequins! A little sad he didn't realized exactly what's happening in the big arena rooms. 7-4 EDITS: 1:38:16 The reaction to the reveal of the Earthmover is great, what I was hoping for! 1:42:53 Struggling to remember Maurice's name was really funny. Hey Marco! Just a bit of a recommendation for your ULTRAKILL journey: Swapping weapons and their variations frequently will boost your style points and help you learn all sorts of stylish synergies. For example, shooting an enemy with lots of nails embedded in them with the railcannon will cause all the nails to explode!

To elaborate on the crosses in 7-1, they actually don't have the same meaning as they do in typical Christianity. Basically, they're just meant to be a very crude depiction of a tree, specifically the tree of life. Hakita and the dev team didn't want crosses in at first, but then realized Gabriel has a huge one on his head, so they had to come up with a meaning for it

i wonder if he will ever p-rank the levels so he can fight minos and sisyphus, its perfectly fine to do it on your comfortable difficulty

I would recommend before act 3 (if you havent already) you go and get the Alternate weapons in the game, love the vids, keep it up!

honestly i believe 7-2 shouldve been designed a tad bit differently ive seen so many playthroughs of people playing half the level backwards and then getting stuck at the payload area because they dont have the cart

The Ultrakill 7-2 theme (Siren Song of the Dead) sounds at parts a bit like Border of Life from Touhou 7, I encourage you to check it out. i love how ultrakill can be one of the most insanely difficult and skill expressive games at higher difficulties and trying to perfect rank while simultaneously having easier difficulties that allow people to just experience the story and music

marco harmonizing with the music is honestly kind of relaxing despite the aggressive drums

I just realized something The reason why 6-1's title is "Cry for the Weeper" and why its theme sounds sad is because of the people who got ended up in the layer Human souls started to fill Hell full and among those souls gets scorched in Heresy. Some, if not, many of those people who got in that layer were morally righteous and faithful people who were following the wrong belief, aka going pagan. That one part in the theme really sounds like its crying, as if the people who believed so hard in their moral belief are bawling because of the unfair suffereing they got in the end even though they have been kind and good back in Earth. Pair it with the droning music from the start, as Marco said, it's oppressing, like it's silencing the "sinners" of their despair of their situation, taking no heed of their thoughts and regrets. They once sought salvation, but the only way now is death

Bro did not understand that BLOOD IS FUEL 😭 besides that one part this playthrough is pretty surprising! I know its on lenient but you managed to beat a lot of levels fairly well!

One thing I've noticed is that absolutely no one realizes the enemies in 7-3 fight eachother after the second tree is fed. Even I only figured that out when I had to look up the level on the wiki to know what the "become marked for death" level challenge was about

By the way, the trees in "no sound, no memory" are supposed to represent a circle within the 7th layer of dante's inferno, violence. The second circle in the violence layer represents violence against the self, where those who attempt or commit suicide are punished as trees, since they already forfeit their own body.

fun fact: the music for gabriel's second fight, the finalized version of it was done before the update dropped by some hours, confirmed by Hakita. but even for a late finished music, it slaps and fits with gabriel in this state of the story

Been loving the content so far. Something I think would be interesting to react to is the OST from Undertale Yellow. Might be a bit difficult though remembering what happened with Undertale the first time though but the OST is very well made imo
