On reason people love Nightwish is that every member of the band is 100% about the music, not their ego. They all get chances to shine, but they always all give what makes the music have the story, emotion, and magic that will move the audience.

Emppu, the guitarist is actually one of my favorite guitarists just because he always gives the songs what they need and not what he can give. Most other guitarists do a little to much. He is performing a part of a whole but are not trying to make the whole bigger. His feel for the music is very delicate.

The backing tracks are played though another system, and some parts are triggered / played by Tuomas on the Keys. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

well, Wacken is my favorite festival. my first Wacken was in 2005, then 2009 and then of course the famous 2013 with Nightwish. I was somewhere in the third / fourth row, close to the stage. awesome experience. I saw then at least 10 times life, but this concert was magical. and yes, Jukka is my favorite drummer. he's a heavy hard hitter and puts in life, passion and accents in each song. his footwork on the double base is just awesome and it resonates in each of your bones.

Floor (the Valkyrie Goddess) Jansen stands over 6 feet tall, and she's wearing 4 to 5 inch heels here.......Tuomas (the Metal Mozart) Holopainen is the keyboardist, co-founder (in 1996), leader, guru, composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer of 95% of the band's music.......audience was an intimate little gathering of 82, 000......this entire legendary show is available on both DVD and RU-vid, under the title of "Showtime, Storytime"......we can clearly see another opera singer turned into a metalhead; after all, we know that grand opera, and "classical" music are both just heavy metal without electricity......hello from the Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA......

Great reaction! Id love to see you react to them perform The Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley. Tread carefully, this is a very important song for nightwish fans due to the meaning behind it and fans often get annoyed and frustrated when people react to this song without researching the meaning behind the song first. It's quite intense, but saying that, it is an absolute masterpiece and the way Floor sings it with such power and emotion always leaves me breathless (or crying!) I highly recommend it!

Thank you for the heads up =) While there are some pieces and exceptions to where there is a message I can get behind and appreciate the music of at the same time, it's not a primary reason as to why I listen to music. I love music because of its ability to transcend language, not so much to use music as a vessel to carry a particular agenda or philosophy. There are grey spaces where I can enjoy good storytelling through music but I'm always a bit skeptical when reacting to music that an audience has a deep emotional connection to due to its message and I just want to be engulfed in the sounds and performance of the music if that makes sense. Plus, audiences who are too emotionally connected with an artist may have a more challenging time listening to criticism, even from a well-educated source (where they click on a reaction video to verify their feelings of their musical taste or to connect with others who feel the same when listening to a piece that emotionally moves them instead of actually listening to critique and being offended when the reactor has a differing listening experience). Having different perspectives and stances based in our individual life experience allows all of us to grow, not just as artists, but as people. I was pretty skeptical about posting this video for that reason but I feel the majority understand this concept and I will definitely give your recommendation a listen! Thank you again for listening and your recommendation =)

I completely understand where your coming from, there must be nothing worse than fans criticizing you just for giving your analysis. Your great at it and I loved watching how passionately you reacted to this song. :) This is why I would love to see you react to the Poet and the Pendulum. The reason I wanted to give you a heads up is because the song was writing by the keyboardist, Tuomas, after the first singer (Tarja, who you watched sing the Phantom of the Opera) was kicked out of the band. Tuomas received a large backlash from this from fans, and even the prime minister of Finland had his say!! This resulted in Tuomas becoming depressed and contemplating suicide. His parents saved him from this, and he ended up writing this song to convey his extreme emotions during this time, anger, sadness, depression, and eventually, hope. It's a proper roller coaster of a song but an absolute masterpiece. The way Floor portrays these emotions in the different parts of the song is incredible. I would love for you to react to it, and certainly I wouldnt mind you giving your opinion. I just know Nightwish fans always like to see that the reactor understands that this song is so important to Tuomas. You even see at times through the performance the guitarist and bassists standing with him to check on him and show their support. Seeing how passionately you were to this song, I know you would love the Poet and the Pendulum as well!

Look up on Floor's YT channel, a video she made about "reacting to reactors watching Ghost Love Score" (don't recall the exact title but that should find it). It's not actually a reaction to reactors but, rather, she explains all the tiny (or big) vocal changes and choices she made in the course of this performance: why she made each one and what she was intending to achieve. I think you'll find it interesting. Jukka is a beast on the drums; I'm surprised, sometimes, that they survive a full show.

@goodeveningstories I found that to be a really nice enthusiastic analysis, and you didn't even mention the sudden time signature changes (including some really odd ones where they seem to lose a beat without it even being noticeable) or the 18 or so modulations, something not many bands would even attempt. Excellent job sir! Of course, Floor had only been with them 10 months at this point and her performances have changed over the years. But even in the first few shows, the ending was her own addition to the song (with Tuomas' approval of course). Bassist and second hocalist is Marco, BTW, the lead guitar is Emppu Vuorinen, one of the most unrecognised GOATs of electric guitar. He knows what a song needs and he always delivers that and no unneeded extras.

First good reaction, glad I found your channel and love your intensity. Welcome to Nightwish. A few comments on the elements of this composition. You mentioned maintaining "momentum" in Floor's first head-voice, ethereal section, but that section is about creating the sense of space between her high voice in long sustained notes with light and feminine touch, and the previous energetic, short powerful lower register of the energetic intro. It is intensity of a different kind, intensity of elevation, of soaring above. And the lyrics foreshadow the whole piece "my fall will be for you" is what she slowly sings. Whose fall? The transition to chest voice tells us immediately, "siren from the deep", now she is in the poet-songwriters voice, singing of the siren, his muse, who sang his name, which is his longing. He knows his dream in that innocent, called connection is worth everything he will ever be. His role in his craft is to hear her song and write it down; that is the relation between muse and poet. But the end of that section describes her, the muse and siren, in a new way, still in the poet's experience, as an angel without care for love and loss. Elevation has its drawbacks for powerful, emotional song - only love and loss can speak to our hearts. Then the interlude, which you noticed as a hero's journey trope, but you didn't stress (if you noticed) that we are in and under the sea, that the interlude is a journey to that habitat of sirens, that underworld where things can transform. When we return, with intensity, it is no longer the poet's experience being related; now it is the siren herself, and her relation to the poet is to desire that he "bring me home or leave me be"; the poet must conquer his muse, and both know this is a fall from ethereal, unworldly position to the knowledge of "love and loss". Hence the building passion of the piece here. The poet wants to be redeemed into childhood, longs for a love that will transcend time - and the stage is set. The band and composition have built the platform on which Floor must now ascend, soaring above the earthly energy of the band and beat to ethereal flight. She is flying in the last parts - but that flight is her fall to knowing love and loss. Her fall will be for - us. The chorus you can barely discern in the background is singing her refrain - my fall will be for you, my love will be in you, you were the one to cut me, so I will bleed forever. The poet sings us the muse's own song, the angel that falls for the creation of his art, because it must leave its high ethereal place to connect with those who know "love and loss". Tuomas is a poet as well as a composer. Nightwish reaches us deeply because of the depth of spirit in which it was conceived and the love with which it was created, and is performed. I hope this brightens your day and your appreciation of this piece.

Floor has said that the most difficult part was holding it back in the beginning of the song. Because the song is meant to grow, you cannot start at full blast, but it was also a song in the middle of the set and there was some 82000 people going crazy in front of her, so not going with the flow was harder than it looked. The monotonousness of the "hey! hey! hey!" is deliberate in my eyes; she was instructing the audience more than performing the song, and for this part of the song it worked the best if the audience repeated a constant, rhytmic chant and let the band do the tricks.

The "Heys" are not part of the studio version of this song, so they are not meant to say anything special, but rather Floor just wants to interact with the audience. And she is at least as good at that as she is at singing. Your facial expression throughout the whole song leads me to believe that you experienced a 10 minutes and 21 seconds long “Floorgasm”. I like that. But I can tell you that was just foreplay if you dare to go deeper down the Nightwish rabbit hole. One tip, get you some good In-Ears if you want to headbang on this way. Then you don't have to hold the headphones and have your hands free for air conducting, air drumming, air guitaring, you name it and doing it right so, because Nightwish songs are not just an acoustic experience, but a whole-body experience. And you'll want to headbang, at the latest when you see Floor doing her windmill. Appreciation from a Swiss division veteran of the Nightwish Army, until the next mission. 😉

As mentioned in the comments, the orchestral and choir parts are pre recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Metro Voices choir. Keyboardist and genius behind Nightwish Tuomas Holopainen had these parts in his head and took them to London for recording. Back in Finland he pasted the results into his composition. It's also practical, especially with low sounds like tam-tam and bass drum. When i play those, i want the follow-through of my stroke to correspond with the conductor's baton, or the sound will feel behind the beat by the time it reaches the audience.

Tarja did that ha ha ha already in her version of this song, Floor knew what to keep from the original. But the hey hey hey was put in for this performance as the Buenos Aires 2012 version did not have it. It is also typical Floor to get the audience in motion, you can see her doing it in her previous bands, mostly to get a lame Dutch audience in motion. Wacken did not need that, 82000 people singing and shouting for 2 hours.

This was a reaction and analysis worthy of the same tier as Elizabeth Zharoff and Julia Nilon when they reacted to and did an analysis of Ghost Love Score! I'm sure you will be doing at lot more Nightwish in the future. 😊

Quite frankly I'm happy you started Nightwish with Tarja, albeit mistakingly thinking it was Floor. I discovered them back in 98 shortly after the 2nd album came out and was amazed. Screw metallica for suing napter, i discovered so much music unknown to the American people, bought many albums i would never have known of otherwise until RU-vid. Now you are on the Floor era... Enjoy the ride!

Where much music (metal or other) can tend to be formulatic (guitar riffs and drum solos) Nightwish is anything but. Everyone does what is needed without having to be the “star”. Floor may be the front person and perceived as the star but she totally realizes and appreciates that it is the presence of all of them performing together at the very highest level that creates the Nightwish vibe and excellence. The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible Absolutely kickass. Jukka in “Beast Mode” on the drum kit…….as usual🤘

I believe that the Composing and Writing of this song (and nierly every song of Nightwish) is done by Tuomas Holopainen who's one of the founding members of the band and plays the keyboards. The actual symphonies was recorded with a symphony orchestra (was it London?) for the album. Record studio was Nuclear Blast (German maybe).

Now this is what a reaction video should be like. Many, if not most other reaction channels could do with a page from this book, if not the entire bleeping book lol. No pointless pausing 50 times during the song to comment on some random sh-t. Just pure listen and enjoy(hopefully) the music, and THEN go into commenting and analyzing *after* the song is done. This is how it's done. Really wish many other reaction channels understood this. So good job bud, honestly can't wait to see more of your reactions, especially with Nightwish and Floor in particular (she has a lot of other things besides Nightwish if u wanna dive deeper into that rabbit hole as well) Keep up the good work mah dude.

Sugerencia nomas... Jajajaja)

Moments: 31:50 Curious (or rather not) you should say this, as NIGHTWISH actually started as an acoustic project of young enthusiasts playing folk and folk-inspired music around a campfire! That was before Floor came on board, but she is able to empathize with the emotion so naturally. 35:22 Beautiful slide, no contest. If you would like to hear a real "Devil's slide" from Floor (along with other musical virtues), do listen to "Romanticide" from the same concert. :) 10:16 and 37:04 Acknowledging the drummer!

You just experienced the very best live performance of all times. And this was near the end of the concert, can you imagine?.... She is a beast of a woman. That is to say a very attractive one, with the most amazing vocal abilities of all time. At home she drives fence poles into the ground with a sledge hammer ( truth). So I guess her lung capacity must be out of this world. She is not tiny either ( 6 feet and the rest, heels not included). Check out everything from her because she sings everything. That is to say she sings everything to perfection. Highly recommended!!!

In the Buenos Aires version from 2012 (also an official version) her final note is about one second longer and it fades out a bit smoother. Back then she was with the band for just a few weeks. You might want to check out that version for yourself, or maybe just compare the two endings.

if you find this so intensely beautiful, they also have 3 versions of “The phantom of the opera”, 1 with Tarja, the previous singer of Nightwish together with Marko, the bass player, 1 version of Floor and Marko and then also a version of Floor together with Henk Poort and that is an opera singer from the Netherlands. And then I am curious which version you like the most. (my English is not that good and that is why I have Google Translate). Greeting’s Marco. 👍🏻👋🏻👋🏻
