Looks and sounds DREADFUL. "Très nocturne" indeed! No way I'd pay money to see this, or sit through it even if it were free!

I've seen the whole thing and I'm pretty sure the director was high. The sets look amazing but there is so much stuff going on, it's difficult to follow. Also, naked grandma ghost was really unnecessary.

Lauter GENIES ~ an nightmare indeed for every one who truely loves and respects the sublime art of Opera; poor Maestro Verdi, he must be " screaming " in his grave.

No need to pity them, believe me! They earned enough money and got many bravos and long applause in the theater.

Kaufmann & Harteros was brillant!!!

This is the first trailer of à Py direction I see. It does not tempt me to see the whole piece, though I suspect Kaufman and Harteros will be brilliant! What a shame such talent goes to waste in this production.

Both of you may want to keep in mind that Kaufmann is contracted with the Bayerische Staatsoper. They are his boss.

Sono indignata! Se io fossi un cantante sarei un po' + audace e "coraggioso" nel rifiutare certe porcate che denaturano i capolavori di persone che non possono neanche intervenire e linciarli !

I don't know if your eyes are going bad, but what you read/understood is not what Mr. Brickinthethroat wrote. What he said was: "...Kaufmann puckers his lips ans pulls his jaw down and contributes to the overall lousy performance. his mouth is as artificial as the staging and the soprano pulls her jaw down like a baby bird begging for a worm..." Those are just the facts. I personally have no particular opinion on the subject.

Just heard Cedolins last night in Falstaff - now we know why she wasn't booked for Trovatore! Fresh?? No, I am afraid she didn't sound fresh by any means.

Kaufmann often finds himself in these kinds of productions which may suggest that he likes them at some level. In fact, he seems more preoccupied by irrelevant issues such as Melchior's inability to act (he repeated the old and tired anecdote of the ''singing sofa''). Well, if Kaufmann is as intelligent as some people make it out to be, he must have realized that it's far more ridiculous to appear in such caricatures than acting like a piece of furniture. But to each his own I guess.

The regie is horrible but the singers are brilliants!!!

Yes i would have expected Kaufmann to be more intelligent than to appear in this ridiculous production. but there you are!!! I find really that in Germany they generally have these bizarre and ridiculous productions and even if the singing is good (which is not in this case) the production is so bad as to spoil the whole experience. And Anja Harteros is not right for the role of Leonora at all. Wrong type of voice so she tries to darken it and that last note is disastrously flat.

What complete and utter garbage!!!! what has poor Verdi done to deserve this?????? I would have expected any serious musician like Kaufmann ridicule the idea of getting up on the stage and performing this caricature of a great work of genius!!! And although Kaufmann is extremely good in general he is not suitable as Manrico and neither is Anja Harteros a credible Leonora.
