Just close your eyes to the absurd visual farrago & hear a really exquisite interpretation of this great aria. Harteros scores in one of the best vocal performances of this piece that I have heard in recent years. One of the test moments, for me, is the soft high B flat in the aria’s recitative & she is magnificent in this moment & in the entire selection following as well. I would also love to hear her in the cabaletta following the Miserere. The more I hear, the more I wish to & inexcusable on my part that I am only discovering her art now for the first time.
Despite a clearly off pitch final note, this is a really accomplished rendition of this scene, and that's despite a very slow, actually dragged tempo chosen by the conductor. Nonetheless Harteros exceled in breath control and sang with real technical skill and a most sensitive musicality.
i know a lot of singers can trill but rarely you get a singer with a hefty voice who actually has a bubbly limpid trill that brings memories of young callas to mind... brava anja

Prima la musica........ beautifully sung but these strange productions nowadays made me stop visiting the operahouses and go back to my records even the oldest ones. Imagine Celestina Boninsegna in this aria in such a production..........
Voilà son vrai répertoire, et non les Tosca et autre Forza si décevantes à Paris récemment. Malgré l'inanité de la production et le tempo qui enlise tout et entraîne même des dérapages dans la justesse, c'est un pur moment de chant verdien. Quel contrôle, quel beaux trilles, quel souffle, et quelle plénitude du timbre, à la fois dense et jeune. Superbe Léonore, mais devant lutter seule contre un chef inepte et un Olivier Py insupportable: qu'on m'explique le rôle de ce spectre argenté qui n'a rien d'autre à montrer que des... formes avantageuses!
