Operant Conditioning - Reinforcement Schedules 

So, in studies where a repetitive task is performed and a reward is given for each reoccurring correct response, is it considered fixed ratio (just with a ratio of 1 behavioral response : 1 reward)?

I had been reading that the variable reinforcement schedules have a less probability to become extinct.
