One detail is incorrect here. The lever does serve as an sD for acess of reinforcer (cocaine) in the first example as well. As long as the Rat didn't accidentally hit the lever, and had a learning history by accessing the consequence of cocaine prior. Then it becomes learned, then the lever becomes and sD.
