I am very sorry but I of course meant Submarines and not submariners, Silly me! Personally I'm more into ground forces, so naval terminology isn't really my cup of tea. none the less I should have known! Terribly sorry for the mistake! It won't happen again! Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed the video!

The rest of your pronunciation was excellent. Unlike some of the amateurs on youtube trying to do history. Much of the background video was inappropriate for the story. Perhaps using clips from the movie interspersed with the clips and stills of Rommel, Laycock and Keyes would have been better. Great video.

Likewise. I think Keyes would have been instructed to snatch an Enigma. An alt motive is required to do it successfully and Rommels assassination could have been that. Would explain Keyes risky role and their acting on such bad intel. Only he would have known. I don't think Rommels assassination would have saved lives or altered the course of the war. That's useful only to create a power struggle which wouldn't have happened in the disciplined German army.

Excellent video. That “submarine/submariners” error was nothing. Your videos are always superior. This is one more example of a long series of wrong-headed decisions and fouled-up British run operations all through the early and mid-WW2 time period. Each time I read about any of these WW2 British military failures, I can’t help but reflect on how the British high command, at that time, generally looked down their noses at the early failures of the green untested American forces in the European theater of operations during WW2 and weren’t adversed to publicly expressing their opinions on this matter; all the while continuing to conduct their own bumbling operations.
@commando4481
@commando4481 2 года назад
Every army made a lot of terrible mistakes. Despite losing battles Britain still won battles in the “early to mid war period”. What I find more interesting is how America hushes up its failures. Such as Hurtgen forest, The Lorraine campaign and operation queen and to some extent the failures at the start of the battle of the bulge keep in mind these happened in late 1944 near the end of the war. However market garden is conveniently spoken about instead and Britain is yet again scapegoated for it.
@parrot849
@parrot849 2 года назад
@@commando4481 - I suppose it’s because we’ve always had a very well funded “public relations” department of our military. But, another aspect is Americans celebrate victories; I don’t think there was any organized conspiracy to cover up Hurtgen Forest, it’s just a matter of why dwell on it. If anything needs to be discussed more by historians is why didn’t Eisenhower allow U.S. 6th Army Group to fully exploit their ability to cross the Rhine in Nov 1944 and roll up the relatively undefended southern portion of the German front when they had the opportunity. They had already crossed in battalion(s) strength. They were poised ready with everything in place. The Allies would have had a splendid chance to ruin Hitler’s plans that ultimately became the Battle of the Bulge. It would’ve meant not going forward with Market-Garden, but of course nobody knew Market-Garden would be such a dismal failure at the time.
@commando4481
@commando4481 2 года назад
@@parrot849 Lol you’re still blaming market garden. Every battle I mentioned above ended with way more casualties than market garden did for absolutely nothing. At least market garden took some ground for a lot less. Americans are told to focus on British failures without knowing. Even for market garden Americans made “bumbling” mistakes which led to its failure Nijmegen for example. A lot of Americans are so misinformed.
@commando4481
@commando4481 2 года назад

And just to add to the fun they would warn the camp in advance. Guards were tripled and every soldier on duty would carry a pickaxe handle. That did not stop the commandoes. why is the narrator talking like that? it's a cross between Enoch Powell and Kobayashi the lawyer from Usual Suspects.. insufferable
