Hello there, my name is Michiel. I'm a 23 year-old with a passion for the First and Second World War. With 'The AceDestroyer' I post all kinds of video's related to the Second World War. I try to create good quality videos with maps, footage and sometimes even contemporary footage. On this channel you will find all my self-made documentaries (from 5minutes to 30minutes). I make all of my maps myself, that way I can really press my stamp on my videos. I have decided to only make WW2 videos with an occasional WW1-related video here and there. Next to making videos I also do research to identify the graves of unknown Soldiers killed in both World Wars. My research has currently helped to identify the final resting places of 14 soldiers! Feel free to subscribe to my channel. Don't worry I turned off the income button, I don't earn anything! It is a hobby and it will stay that way. None the less, I hope you'll enjoy the content I make. Cheers!
My grandfather Jesse B Davis landed there on June 6th with the 4th ID 8th IR, and my other grandfather Benjamin F Compton landed there on June 6th with the 4th ID 12thIR. I can't wait to visit there one day.
Generally, the "Battle of Crete" was UNIQUE in the entire WW2! Crete was the first AND ONLY super huge island was been invaded... and from the SKY, by the first LARGER airborn invation in Human History! About 30,000 (in total) German paratroopers (and Mountain Commandos) attacked Crete with ULTIMATE air support (the Germans had "party" over Crete, without A SINGLE allies' plane to face them!)... against 70,000 allies troops (mostly Australians, New Zealanders, Scottish, few other Brits, many regular Greek troops and of course THE ENTIRE CRETE civilian population!)... In "Battle of Crete", the MOST notorious AND DECORATED Batallion was the New Zealand MAORI one!!! The "mad" Cretans found their "brothers-in-arms" - the Maori!!! Cretans LOVE fighting with knives & bayonets... and guess what, Maori TOO!!! So, the Maori gave BLOODY STEEL to the German Paratroopers, many many times during the "Battle of Crete". ESPECIALLY in the most notorious battle, the "Battle of 42nd Street"!!! That was a tiny road, leading from the northern part of Crete to the south, when the Royal British Navy was waiting the retreating British forces to evacuate them. In that street (Brits called it "The 42nd Street"), was mostly ANZAC forces (Australian/New Zealand). So, before the battle started, a single Maori trooper stand up and started the famous "Haka" dance; instantly, 40-50 other Maori troops joined him and an entire Company continue dancing the "Haka" in the open, in front of the surprised German Paratroopers!... In the end of "Haka", the entire ANZAC forces charged with bayonets towards the Germans and they started dropping their weapons and flee to save their lives!!! Even now... after 80 years... every May there are (of course) many ceremonies in Crete, for the memory of those brave men against the Nazis... ...AND OF COURSE... the New Zealanders AND ESPECIALLY Maori always visiting Crete and ALWAYS DANCING again the "Haka" dance, for the memory of their grand-fathers!
Thank you for covering these lesser known smaller unit actions during the war. Most documentaries just cover superficially the big events that lasted for months, like operation Barbarossa, giving them detail like this makes those events much more interesting and it really makes one understand how huge these conflicts were.
I appreciate your vids, and what I think is the most important part of them are the maps and movements of the company, Divisions, etc. The vid simply makes them more interesting.
YOUR GERMAN VOCABULARY SKILLS ARE FAR BETTER THAN PROBABLY 90% ++++++ POPULATION OF GERMANY !!! BEYOND BRILLIANCE / PERFECTION 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
BRING BACK YOUR OLD BKGROUND MUSIC AND INTRO. PIPE ORGAN N THE WORKS !!! ALL THAT COMBINED W YOUR IMPECCABLE GERMANIC NARRATION SKILLS. 2ND. TO NONE IS ALWAYS SHEER PLEASURE / HONOR TO TAKE INTO ONES EARS. !!! 💐💐👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great video! My grandmother fled Vaivara village just before the battles started. She was a small child at the time. Her family home was used as the base of operations by the Germans and all the villages you see on these maps were completely razed to the ground by Soviet artillery. Several of the village names are misspelt in this video though. Not that it changes anything in the story, but i thought id mention it. I guess that might not be the video creators fault though, but the source material itself might be flawed.
Why did you change your intro. Bring back the pipe organ and your entire intro. This New one has no life to it. Bring back the original intro w the pipe organ 🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
AT THAT POINT OF THE WAR. BASIC SUPPLIES. FOOD, FUEL, WAS OFTEN SCARCE. THE GERMANS IN MANY THEATRE'S OF ACTION SIMPLY COULD NOT TAKE PRISONERS ANY LONGER. THAT'S WAR. THE ALLIES MURDERED THEIR FAIR SHARE OF GERMANS TOO
my grandfather was taken prisoner and sent to Soltau POW camp. The injured were eventually sent to Switzerland - Interlaken then Meiringan. He was there until Aug 1918 when he married a local woman in Lausanne
Finally a video depicting the battles of the ss in karealia I’ve been hoping to come across one for many years now. It is often forgotten in history. Thank you for this upload
The belgians had more than enough men, time to prepare, AT guns etc etc and performed very poorly in ww2. They did as little as possible to cooperate with their allies and once the fighting started were far more defeatist and less willing to hold their positions than the early French reserve B formations. Quite poor.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent still-motion photography pictures. Along with detailed maps. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator was describing. Wishing viewers a safe/healthy/prosperous (2024) 🌈🎉💵🤔.
Knispel was also known for giving other tankers in his unit credit if there was any doubt as to the kills. So his actual number of kills might have been much higher. That, coupled with his lack of interest in military bearing (sloppy uniforms and preference for facial hair) was probably what kept him from getting the Knights Cross.
The raid on Rommel appears (condensated, no names) in the beginning of the movie “The desert fox”, with James Mason as Rommel. According to what I read, the reconstruction is very good.
Brilliant. Just what I needed. We have just moved to Saint-Manvieu - living just around the corner from the Perron part of the map. I didn't realize that there had been such an engagement here. I haven't had time to research what happened around here in June 44 and so your video has been a perfect find just before the 80th D-Day anniversary. Tomorrow being May 8th, I'll wander up to the British cemetery to pay my respects and see if I can learn some more. Thanks for the clear presentation.
Credit Patton and the endless US manufacturing of war supplies to win North Africa. Rommel had limited supplies and only lost when Patton took over for the ineffective British forces.
Hello My Friend Awesome I can’t get Enough It’s Very Addictive. SINCERE Thank You For Sharing and Making History IMMORTALIZED ❤❤❤ Lenny G. LBC. 🌊🏝️🍀🍀🍀. 562/420😊
This is the one of the easiest to follow for a non military person. My son has taken a great interest in his great grandfathers war in the 11th battalion of the Durham Light Infantry who was at Dunkirk then later wounded fighting at Rauray under Captain Nicholson. A similar video of the fighting at Rauray would really help my son understand the progress of the DLI during operation Martlet at Rauray
