April 2017:
Orphan Jackie was reported to be hiding in a local village compound on a Saturday evening. Tacugama's rescue team went to investigate and, with the help of young Abraham, they successfully located a 2 year old female chimpanzee named Jackie.
Abraham had visited Tacugama with his school not 1 month prior and learned the importance of wildlife conservation. Through this education that inspired him, he was engaged in the issue and took the brave decision to assist us.
Jackie was found in a bathroom, weak, dehydrated, malnourished, and full of diarrhea. She was immediately brought to Tacugama where she was assessed by our veterinarian Dr. Izzy Hirji and was put in the loving hands of Mama Posseh - the mama who has raised more than 100 similar orphans at Tacugama.
Jackie continues to receive 24 hour care and is recovering incredibly well since her arrival. We hope she will continue to thrive and join our other orphan family!
