It contributed to the Great Chinese famine. I remember my father telling me about how his father, who lived through the famine, would tell him about it. Apparently that’s why many Chinese ppl say that he was “70% right but 30% wrong”, as he might have had good intentions, but he didn’t consider the terrible consequences that could arise from his actions (ie. something like 50 million dead)
