Skidding (or Sarad or Skidding in English) is one of the system processes in harvesting timber forest products with its activities in the form of moving felled timber from tree posts in the forest to a temporary wood collection point (TPn) which is usually on the side of the forest road. Skidding is a short-distance transport activity when compared to the transport of wood itself. Skidding is an activity that becomes a benchmark for the success of harvesting forest products because it is related to production costs and the volume of wood that can be utilized. Skidding is the activity with the largest production cost in harvesting forest products. During skidding, the skidded wood is not included in the trunk above the first branch, which can increase the amount of skidding waste and make harvesting of forest products inefficient.
To maximize efficiency and reduce environmental damage caused by skidding, proper planning is needed, such as calculating the environmental damage to the soil that results in erosion and compaction of soil and standing stands, such as former bollards; calculation of roads and skidding routes (or Skid trails); and the use of methods adapted to forest conditions and the volume of wood to be harvested.
