@@mmcpa new guy’s timing is already way better than Lopez’ ever was. Lopez had the opposite of Axe’s live issues: Lopez played shit way too fast, even this song somehow 😂
@@Tdrummer888 Well I respectfully disagree. Lopez had an awesome groove style to his playing. I think he played Deliverance incredibly, better than this guy or Axe. I'm not knocking the other two, but personally I just like Lopez the best of the Opeth drummers.
@@Tdrummer888 Totally agree. Who is going to play the song better than Martín López himself? He composed and recorded those drum lines. No one can make them sound like that personality. I see Opeth on the tours "Blackwater park" and "Deliverance". They sounded incredible. And the last time on "Ghost Reveries", but Martín López has alredy left the group. That concert was disappointing. López for Opeth is like Lombardo for Slayer. Hands down.
It’s how it always goes. New guy replaces the original or “ classic lineup “ guy and everyone is very so so on him, no matter how great he is. When that guy gets replaced, though, everyone loves the next guy. That’s not to say Walt isn’t absolutely amazing because he is, it’s just a funny phenomenon.
That drum break at 6:10... this kid is on the road to become one of the best from his generation. I'm not a huge Opeth fan ( maybe from "my arms...your hearse" until "Deliverance") but I always loved their drummers, Mendez, Axenrot and now this finnish kid...and he assured. Axenrot is badass too. Check out "servants of darkness" by Nifelheim. Rapid fire, but with some details that show his finesse.
Pretty amazing that mobiles can take this level of video quality these days. Watching live music isn't just a distorted, blurry mess of brrrrr, like it was in the early 2000s. You actually can hear the reverb of the room, most of the musical intricacies and crowd interaction. Just really cool when I think about it.
But still, there a room to improve, there is some kind of sound field capturing change when I've zoomed closer, and there is no setting to change this behavior. Wish I noticed that before recording...
You think Axe didn't do everything at Live at Amphitheatre 2018 ... Watch evrything... I love Lopez but Axe did every job perfectly after his departure in every live.
Axe was really good but he never really played the older material quite right. Too many notes come to mind which throws it off and changes the feel. Lopez has great feel and good composition but his live playing was lacking. Axe was good with prog rock. This new drummer sounds great, he keeps the feel of the original with proper timing. Lopez to me will always be special because his grooves was unique and memorable at least studio wise.
I'm glad they are coming back to form. I saw them live just as Heritage came out and their live shows...were awful. I could tell the needed a break and a good refresher. Glad they are killing it again and Mikael found his voice. Opeth is too good of a band to lose.
I have really come to believe after 25 years of listening to rock that the aesthetic faculty of us humans is the same or at least has the same desires، deliverance was first sing that drifted me to opeth, I'm a fan from Iran.
@@julianrfogel but i think that since Opeth now has melodic songs with little use of double bass. So, maybe Axe speed on double bass slowed in time. Other than that he's still good.
