Dear O.P.I, In these times of economic uncertainty, I want to thank you for creating a collection composed entirely of polishes that I hate so I'm not tempted to buy them. p.s. As always Jess, I still watched the whole video because I love watching you swatch!
@@cherrybomb1386 Hi Carmen, wetting the sponge first makes it so that less polish is absorbed by the sponge when you start applying it to the sponge. It saves a little product.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I love it when they put loads of pearl in nail polish. I think the brush strokes you get gives life and texture to the polish
Pearls get a bad wrap. They're hated before they're loved or even considered. As you showed, brushstrokes can be manipulated or you can just rock with the look of it. It's a matter of preference but I appreciate pearls. I find them to be classic and feminine. I liked the look of Shellmates, Mussells, Baroque Pearls, and Love/Lust-er.
Hi Jess, I just wanted to say thank you. I've been under self isolation for over a month now and your videos definitely help me cope with the stress and anxiety. I really appreciate it.
What was OPI thinking with this collection?? Even though the polishes were awful it was nice to watch your review, Jess. Thank you for continuing to bring some normal to us. Take care.
These are AMAZING. Pearl is so refined and beautiful, I wish more people would use pearlescence. And I'm dying for more sheers as well. These all actually look great as a single coat sheers, and the multiple coats do nothing but get ugly and highlight imperfections because like real pearls the pearlescence needs some subtle background from an organic surface (like a nail) to glow and glisten evenly. I don't know if OPI intended them to be sheers but I will definitely buy a couple of colors to use that way.
I kinda liked... just a hint of pearl-ple. Both the name and the colour! I think I'm also a bit unique in not caring about the brush strokes, as long as they're done straight.
I guess since I grew up in the 70s and 80s this type of polish doesn't bother me. It was called "frost" back then. I'm digging it, because it makes me feel nostalgic and I actually like the brush strokes. "Did You See Those Muscles" reminds me of a blue Wet-n-Wild polish I had back then. I may be be the oddball but I LOVE this collection!
I don’t mind brush-strokes (neat ones), and I appreciate your showing polishes as they’re actually used! I’m an old lady who loves pearls and shimmers!
That is a neat trick for those frosty shades. The infinite shine is definitely the ones to go after, with that slight duochrome effect. It’s unfortunate that they did it this way because I know I don’t like frosty polishes and would have to pay more for the infinite shine ones. I figured I’d skip this collection since I have plenty of indies that satisfy the same effects of this collection.
I totally agree with you! I think that I will save my (limited) $$$ and buy indie. It irritates me that OPI was pretty stingy with the duochrome shimmer pigments; indy makers seem to be way more generous!
So I started watching the first swatch and I was thinking, “I’m sure she will tell us how we can sponge it on to avoid the brush strokes, but I think I’ll ask her to maybe demonstrate that in a video or Instagram post some time.” Then I saw the sponge come out. So thanks!
I think Love or Lust-er is my fave, which surprises me bc I don’t usually gravitate towards those colors. I just love watching you swatch, idk why but its so relaxing. ❤️
Thanks for reviewing this collection, the infinite shine varnishes are stunning. I hope you and your family are safe and stay well, look after yourself Jess. 😷
I do love your videos!! I love how you swatch and I learn so much from you! That being said, I hate the regular polishes in this collection. They ALL remind me of that pearly polish my momma used to wear back in the 70s. UGH! I do, however, like a couple of the IS colors. Thanks again for a great video! PS....I agree about extra steps to make a polish look better but I appreciate the tip on this one. Had no idea you could do that with a make up sponge. :)
I love them all except for Olive for Pearls. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, I really enjoy them and always manage to learn something.
SanFreeman1: If you’re looking for a sheer, or semi-sheer colour, it’s great to have good formulas like this which aren’t streaky, and spread evenly from the first coat! Not to everyone’s taste, especially today, though...
Great review Jess. I liked the infinite shine polishes better, even though I don't mind brush strokes I just liked the colours in the infinite shine better. Although I don't like that it takes 4 coats to make them look good. OPI must have watered the formulas down! Thanks for the beautiful swatches :)
Thanks for the swatch & review! I am not a fan of frosty, pearly polishes, so this will definitely be a pass from me. The infinite shines were the better half of the collection, but still not great.
Why does OPI churn out collections of such awful finishes? Yuk. But great video - I knew you must've been hating every second of the first half, but you remained entirely professional.
Hi Lara, I appreciate Jess's professionalism, too, especially when she is swatching collections that I personally do not like. I may be cringing inside, but I'm happy that she doesn't overly criticize the product, because there is always someone out there who has a different opinion. If you offend too many viewers, you will lose them!!
Fantastic video as usual Jess, I always really enjoy watching your videos regardless of what I personally think of the polish. Wow though, I absolutely hate these 😅 I remember polishes like this in the 70s and 80s. They were horrible even then but we had a lot less choice so they were forgivable. Now though? No thanks.
There were 2 I actually sorta liked but man... why does OPI insist on bringing pearl shimmer back and literally without any major improvements on formula/brush strokiness? Let’s move on already, OPI. Not happy with them so far at all in 2020. Great review tho, Jess. 🥰
Meh, I love a pearl finish, it’s the nostalgia of staring at the colours as a kid. That said, I feel like OPI has lost their mojo and have for a while. Haven’t bought one for many years now. Rather spend my cash on indies. 🤷🏻♀️
Man, this collection is just not it. And I knew you wouldn't be a fan. I'm disappointed this was such a miss, I need a new, not crappy collection to play with. If I had to pick one that I disliked the least it would have to be Glisten Carefully. But as usual, great swatches and great vid. Thanks!
Why is it so hard for OPI to make nail polish I like? The past few years, they're either releasing the same 12 boring cream shades every single season or they're doing something bizarre... and with a bad formula. I don't get it.
Me too! I REALLY tried to find one to consider buying but I don't think that I will be able to bring myself to shell out money on them (even when they hit the bargain bin at TJ Maxx.)
