Why does Opie see fit to angrily defend his snack rather than just have fun with the joke? Does the honor of his healthy snack really mean that much to him?
You’re an idiot. He’s keeping the bit going by being the opposite of jimmy and being proud of his discipline, aka good cop bad cop and thus keeping jimmys rant
Did Opie honestly stop this side-splitting radio so he could eat a yogurt? It takes me one minute to wolf down a yogurt. He's always interrupting a good conversation with some nonsense, a terrible joke, or an even worse caller. Just sit there and let the funny happen.
This is a good bit. You hear about Bob Kelly before becoming a mainstay of the show. And the fact Norton had such issues with technology.. DUUUDE you got your TVO, you got your Mini Disc Player, you got your 12 Gauge. Boom.
More than any clip, this 12 minutes by Jimmy explains everything about the O&A show. To be funny, you must be honest. Jimmy is funny because he is able to tap into honest shit about himself, as is Anthony. But Opie's reaction to Jimmy's rant here is enlightening. Opie lives permanently in a world coloured by dishonesty (which is different from lying) and irony. Anything that comes close to a "real moment" must be deflected into sarcasm for his ego to survive. I mean "ego" in the personality sense. To be honest on that level would quite literally kill Opie, in the sense that his entire identity would die. Jimmy has his issues, but we all know about them and therefore can help him survive. Opie's engagement with the world is in the ever-present "now" and so he can never truly grow, never become. His ego thinks this is a path to immortality, because by its unconscious logic, if he doesn't become anything, then he can never die. Opie is deferring life in the hope that it will defer death. Jimmy is staring death in the face and trying his best to live. What destroyed this show was 2/3 people in that studio embracing honesty while the other occupant looked deeper into a mirror
holy based and redpilled. as someone who's been an opie in his past, i can confidently say yes, people see whats going on, and no, youre not getting away with anything
Opie continues to trash Jimmy while he's obviously in a bad headspace, and one little joke about opie's snack and the greggshells just start crunching immediately. The guy is a complete narcissist. Awful.
to be fair that probably didnt bother Jim. Or would it most comedians. Its the fact that he can't take a joke aimed at himself that makes him unfuckwithable
can you imagine how good this show would have been if opie just got out the way and didnt draw negative attention towards himself everytime something funny was happening?
I never really felt Jimmy before until this segment. I feel the exact same way, and worst of all is that no amount of support, validation, or reinforcement makes you feel any better. It's fucked; I used to fantasize about jumping off my roof, landing on my neck, but then I feared that I'd fuck that up too and become a paraplegic (which is fucked since I'd then be in the same spot of laying in bed reflecting on my own failure, but with the added bonus of not being able to make a second attempt).
And I guarantee that was a lie. I used to hit walls, but even at my angriest I'd never be stupid enough to punch brick. It wouldn't break away at all, and you'd only fuck your hand/wrist up. Greg just wanted people to think he's HARDCORE brothaman. Don't get on his bad side nyuk nyuk nyuk
@@Theevil6ify I don't get all this about Opie being a liar. If you actually listened to the show, you'd know that Opie deep down would be the psycho to punch solid rock for the sake of pain. Is it really unfathomable for someone to be punching walls for some other reason than your own?
"It used to feel good, but like ya'd hurt, ya know???" I used to do that; I didn't "feel good" afterwards- I felt shame & embarrassment but the pain on my hands would be subterfuge for whatever mental state I was in. Opie was a try hard, just needed to insert himself into the content.
I loved Jim Norton first because of rants like this. The rest introduced me to the greatest kept comedy secret of all time, I.E. the Opie and Anthony show. P.S. Opie is still a tool in this clip
- one of the most popular radio shows in the country - constant appearances by top comedians and major celebrities "Ah yes, it's the most well kept secret in the history of comedy!..."
Weird hearing Jim have to explain to them who Bob Kelly is. Obviously he hadn't been on the show yet. He was already a seasoned regular by the time I started listening, and he always seemed like a part of the show. Funny to hear the world of O&A before Bob became part of the family.
I own a gun. For hunting. But I keep it at my brother in laws house because I have the same mentality as Jimmy. 2 things go wrong in a row, I’m checking out
Absolutely. Much more interesting to hear someone who is aware about how shite they are & is honest about how it makes them feel. The world is full of people telling me how slick & perfect they are when their crushingly obvious inadequacies are in plain site.
Inside of the strongest men lives a 'scared little child' that we fight a constant battle to keep deeply hidden in the dark recesses of our mind. When your child looks at "Dad" as if he were the biggest, strongest, smartest person alive, "Dad" has to really try to destroy that scared little child deep within himself and live up to his child's expectations. (Felt good to get THAT off my chest...) “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.” -Henry David Thoreau-
I seriously doubt they pay him 700. He works with them 9 days out of 10 and provides at last half of the comedy on the show on average. If they're filthy rich, then he should be getting paid very well.
ClibanariusJJ You're not the only person to say this, and I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. Something to do with tunestotube.com, the site I use to upload these I guess.
kevyn999 Strange. But yeah, it's only some of your videos, not all of them, I was mistaken in saying that earlier. The only real option I'd suggest to fix them is to re-post the ones you posted through there, but there's an alternate source for a lot of the broken files, so I wouldn't really worry about it too much. Thanks just the same, I know I appreciate the effort made by you!
Idk, the Opster would've had more opportunities to take calls from Fannie from Fort Bubblebutt, New York to tell a second hand story. That's what the listeners wanted /s
