If you listen, Jimmy speaks up every time Opie asks if anyone has anything to say, and each time he does Opie either talks over him or just quickly dismisses it (like when Jimmy mentioned that he should do a show where he talks only about the things he did wrong). So really, what Opie should have been mad about was, "Jimmy, I really needed you to speak up and tell me how I'm right and Anthony is wrong." Ugh... Opie is such a needy little baby.
The incredible thing is that Opie is completely oblivious to fact that he’s actually inflicting the Greggshells phenomenon on the room the entire time he’s talking. I’m not even in the room and I can feel the tension. It’s insane.

Opie is such a fascinating case in the study of intense narcissism, especially a case of it where the ego started building pre internet days. I'm at the part where the Opster is outwardly saying that he holds a grudge against Anthony because Ant never visited his home and doesn't have a relationship with Opie's children. These are coworkers, they aren't dating. I would have lost it much sooner if I had to work with Opie.
While I think Opie is a cunt, they weren't just co-workers. They were business partners. Their job was to talk to each other for 4 to 5 hours per day and have a rapport and they did it for almost 20 years. The fact Opie thinks it makes any sense that he handled contract negotiations the way he did when he was in a 50/50 partnership is absolutely insane. Him and Ant had a “favored nations contract.” Nothing Opie could negotiate on his own could be given without Ant also agreeing and receiving as well. He truly TRULY thought he was Howard and Ant and Jimmy were his show sidekicks. It’s also bizarre how Opie still thinks his experience matters when discussing Ant (20 years in radio) and Jimmy (15 years in radio) His experience was negligible at a certain point.
It kinda makes sense when you think originally it was just him, and he brought Anthony on to do the show with him, and later Jimmy was brought on. He was probably thinking it was still "his" show.

I've been on both sides of pay negotiations before. It's never comfortable when one side continually escalates tension and everyone has a breaking point where they say "enough is enough, this isn't worth it".

Also, Opie missed days here and there for whatever reason but did Ant or anyone cry about it all day and ruin the mood? NO. The show went on. Happily. Everything said about Opie and his mood is true but no one could tell him. Thank god for Jimmy and his bluntness with Opie. Everyone else kisses his ass and its sad.

Anthony went on his show by himself and said his side. Opie went on his show and did everything he could to get other people to jump in and agree with the things he was saying. Anthony said straight up, “I wonder how hard Opie tried to save my job considering Opie made it seem like he wanted to split the show anyway” and he was right. Opie confirmed it many times. He tried to save Anthony’s job but he gave a “whatever effort” and if they were closer he would have tried much harder. Ant never blamed Opie for his firing. He just questioned how hard Opie tried to save his job and he was right because Opie admitted he didn’t try very hard.

To be fair, Opies frustration is a bit understandable. Imagine all the events they went to with fans and everyone is constantly running up to Jim, Ant, and comedians to talk to them about jokes and bits they did. TBH He really let that resentment build into him overestimating his worth to the show.
All Opie had to do was know his place and vouch for his radio partner of decades and this would have never happened. Every great comedy team has a straight man and with two hilarious improv masters you cannot try to outshine them. It's stupid to think "I need to be funny too", especially if you aren't. And that's not to say he hasn't said funny shit because Opie has, but my favorite shows are when he's just laid back and laughing along with Jim and Anthony.
Worth noting that the number of "That's it, I told em I was quitting" Opie-stories is now up to eight or ten. Guy has been throwing my-way-or-the-highway tantrums literally since 1999, and actively telling Anthony "It's time to go, it's time to split the show" since 2008. Amazing, in retrospect, that they lasted as long as they did, given that kind of tension.

However, Anthony passive-aggressively went at Opie many times. Anthony gaslight Opie for years. True, Opie is a douche who can't take what he dishes out, but Anthony would just lie to Opie's face and stab him in the back on a personal level. It was such an odd relationship. They knew they needed each other and knew they needed to show a united front on air, yet hated each other for a majority of the time.

I have a lot of experience in dealing with different nationalities and situations and I've never heard anybody sit by their beliefs and discuss so openly and clearly the issues you guys cracked the code and if he was still around I think the show whatever it would have become would have been an important place to hear and speak truthfully about these changing times. So I would think the task at hand instead of back and forth with Opie you might be on the lookout for somebody that you share that kind of connection with that would speak freely and openly to your face with the same respect you would give and take... But what do I know I'm nobody... I just laugh and smile the way everybody else does.

I have heard literally not five minutes of Opie's response to Anthony and I am already fucking flabbergasted. I cannot believe what I've already heard. He's acting like Anthony's actively trying to ruin his life and job. What a complete and total fucking narcissist. He just cannot handle any sort of criticism or anything. Again, not five minutes in and I am already in pain.
Opie's too much of a narcissistic sociopath to genuinely cry. It was a pathetic attempt to garner sympathy because he knew the fanbase had turned on him. Period.
