There's clearly something empty or off inside him that he needs to do _all_ that shit to give him a sense of purpose and validation. There's just something about Opie where 'lingering longer', with him, reveals more quirks that annoy than layers of comedy you enjoy. Worse, he sort of gets a pass from the rest of the show. For example, for a while there was a list of words Vos mispronounced when he came into the show. But 'fuchitive' is always overlooked and treated with kid gloves. But I do agree with your premise, a month of Nopie shows would get pretty bad.
Let's be honest pretty much everyone on the show was soft as shit. At least Ant had to work for a leaving for several years, the rest of them couldn't hammer a nail.
Well I mean they went to college and broadcasting school so they didn't have to do physical labor. I wish I would of did something of that nature. 39 years old and been doin physical labor since I was 14..it blows. Amount of vitamins and drugs I have to take to get out of bed to work on the morning and somehow go to the gym is astounding. Major neck shoulder and back injuries.
