This is why I hate Opie beyond words. Throughout this segment Patrice and Anthony are legit trying to figure out ways how certain things can be changed logically and become a sport. They think of defense, points, tactics etc to make it make sense. What does Opie do? "What about if you uhhh kill the guy? Or beat his child to death in front of you? That'd make it a sport right? HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD HOLD ON!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Patrice (on Black Phillip) talked about how women can't logically entertain even a hypothetical scenario coz they don't understand context. Opie IS exactly what Patrice was talking about. God what a moron.

The actual definition of sport is different from what you stated... Sport: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an "individual" or team competes against each other. Individual sports include golf, tennis, ping pong, etc...

Competitive swimming, sprinting, skiing and golfing are in the "Beating each others scores" category. They are all performing without another persons interference and at the end of the event are just comparing their scores/performance. Those players could complete the event without ever even seeing the other players.
I think a better descriptor would just be “competition” all these non-interactive activities are “competitions” similar to “yo-yo competition” “ dancing competitions” “ singing competitions”
When you stop and think about it, it really is amazing how long Opie and Anthony actually lasted before imploding considering just how UNFUNNY Opie really was.
In golf you play against more than 1 opponent, your mind, the other golfers, and the course itself. Basketball, baseball, football, tennis, all have the same environment every play, but in golf the weather can change the same course during the day... making it one way in the morning and another in the afternoon. Its harder than most sports.
Footballs played outside where it rains and snows and gets all types of slippery and muddy it's not guaranteed they're gonna play on a clear day... Environmental defense doesn't count because your opponent can't alter the environment to screw you, if you mess up it's all your fault your opponent couldn't do anything but pray you stunk in the rain
Are you forgetting that Soccer, Football, Baseball, Cricket, Outdoor hockey etc etc are all played mostly outdoors? How is Golf harder than most sports when 80% of the player base are old fat white dudes who's body's are run off nicotine and cheap beer? It's harder but requires literally no standards of health and fitness?
If you can be totally out of shape, but can be the best, it is a hobby Fishing, Darts, Pool, Bowling........Skilled yes, but no need to break a sweat or can do it sitting in a chair :D
I love how much patrice has clearly spent thinking about this. He understands the fundamentals of his argument to the fucking tee and people keep trying to argue with examples instead of attacking the foundation of the actual point he's making.

I think many people who haven't played tennis don't realize how hard it is. I would definitely put top tennis players up there with the top athletes of all other sports.

And great argument by Patrice, you shouldn't be able to pick something up at 45, if it's considered a pure sport. Of course people start swimming or even martial arts at 45, but they usually don't get competitive at it anymore, outside of some senior class.
Skiing can go "hotdog the movie' with the competitive skiing race at the end... teams start at the top, full contact and first team to get someone to the bottom.... there's your sport! :)
What if every golfer is paired with a skeet shooter, if the risk is having the ball get shot out of the air preventing one from exhibiting their skill, could that be a sport?
Golf is not a sport. Golf is a skill. The game of golf doesn't really measure anything physical about the player. Strength and speed dont factor. Some will say you have to be strong to hit a ball X amount of yards down the fairway but that doesn't really count. This game can be played at a relatively high level by guys in their 50's or even 60's. Its a skill. Bowling, race car driving,. darts, billiards, archery, target shooting, fishing, hunting, ballroom dancing, etc. All skills NOT SPORTS. World Class snow skiing and swimming are sports because the participants are in excellent physical condition. You are going fast down the mountain or fast in the pool. You are competing against the clock. There are no 50 year old (or even 40 year old) swimmers or skiers in the Olympics. Track and Field are definitely sports ... again measuring speed against the clock. Usain Bolt fastest human on the planet. Track and Field don't have defensive players but it measures something about the participant, usually their speed and/or strength.
If guy with Phil Micklesons body is considered great in a sport then it’s not a sport. Tiger Woods was great cause he was an actual athlete playing it. Imagine LeBron liking golf more than basketball.

I would argue that the course itself is playing defense but I get it and it is hilarious. rip patrice. I think the real arguement isnt whether or not bowling, golfing etc are sports but if the participants are athletes
From what I learned, Requirements of a sport 1. Physical Exerting Defense in which your physical skill is counteracts the ability of the opponent 2. You cannot compete with a professional athlete. For example: Getting your ass kicked in the NFL, not even getting a shot in the NBA, falling in your face 5 seconds in the NHL.

According to Patrice: Arm wrestling in a bar = sport. Running 100 meter dash at the Olympics =/= sport. Could be said about another 30 disciplines from the Olympics - i guess its mostly not a sports event.

Something is not sport if the arguments for it are dumb af, like it's dangerous (Nascar) or there's weather (Golf) otherwise being outside during a lightning storm would be the most sport thing ever.

I was watching golf the other day with my Dad. I think they should it as fast as they can. They have as many shots as they want but they have to run after the ball.
