There's also a huge difference between this 'graphology' bullshit - determining personality from handwriting - and Document Analysis, which is determining whether someone wrote something by comparing it to another document they wrote. Federal Document Analysis is a legit science that too often gets confused and conflated with 'Graphology'.

There's a difference between 'Graphology' and 'handwriting analysis' - the latter is actually called Federal Document Analysis, and it's what the FBI use to determine whether two documents were written by the same person. FDA is a legit science and for the most part it works, but FDA doesn't purport to tell you jack shit about the personality of the guy who wrote the documents - that's Graphology, and Graphology is 100% horseshit hokum. People confuse the two fields and Graphologists encourage the confusion because they love riding the coattails of FDA analysts.

If this following bit is true, I can't see how it can really hold any weight: I maintained that research into the neural substrates of writing and personality actually supplies some of the best arguments against graphology. For instance, brain damage can alter either writing or personality, independently. There is no evidence that if a head injury affects personality, writing will necessarily change too-as it should if graphology were valid. Furthermore, there is no reason to suspect that the brain mechanisms responsible for writing and those for temperament and aptitudes could be linked in the lockstep fashion necessary if graphology were to be taken seriously.
