When it becomes less of a character and more the person's real life persona, people notice. I thought opie was playing the effect straight man until he really became it. That's when the genius wore off for me and a bunch of other fans.
Opie also fails to get sarcasm throughout the years. Given ant, Jim and alot of guest comics utilize sarcasm quite a bit...jokes fflew over his head. Again...great character for radio, but when you realize he's not playing dumb..it gets sad and annoying. Just like ants and jim's anger issues bigotry at times. And before you reply... Personally I can't stand Gordon Ramsay and have no interest in fancy restaurants but Opie pretending not to know who he was is pathetic. If I know who Opie is then Opie knows who Gordon Ramsay is. Typical Gregg.
