During her college education, Arlington’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti watched her friend get wrongfully convicted. Watching the extremely unfair trial sparked something within her, leading to her study law and to work as a lawyer. After a few decades, a number of exonerations with the Innocence Project, and a successful campaign leaving her as Arlington, VA’s Chief Prosecutor, she is running for re-election in 2023. Her story is full of work she has done for her community and impressive feats, among which is getting the first ever DNA exoneration in D.C, and being a leading figure not only in her office, but in the nationwide field of reform prosecution. What she has accomplished and what she hopes to continue to accomplish is an inspiration to anyone with big dreams, and proof that sometimes, life whisks you off on a different path and all you can do is make the best of it.
