It occurs to me that Sam did something brilliant. He took the “Do not compare me to you puny organics” robot archetype but made it empathetic and non condescending
Who the hell plays Warforged all snobby like that? I play plenty of them and know lots of people who have played them, only one has been like that and that's because he had his mind modified and the nobles that stole him made him that way.
@@tmntleo Not Worforge PCs per say, but AI in movies, tv shows, and books in general. Your Glados's and Agent Smiths and Ultrons and what have you that usually look down on humanity, would be insulted if you compared them to humans, and more often than not are trying to wipe out humanity. FGC is at its core that AI character type that has no desire to be compared to organics and is put off when said comparisons are made. But Sam gave this stereotype a twist by making FGC empathetic and self reflecting.
my undead sorcerer that was more or less a ghoul and our warforged artificer were the dynamic duo of the party doing most everything together we referred to the rest of the party as "the breatheies"
Well so about that. It was polymorph and that spell targets any creature. A creature however is anything with a stst block so animated objects something that is not alive would be effected.
@@christophercrafte Actually no, an object is unaffected, even if it has a stat block. You can't Polymorph an Animated Object from the Animate Objects spell, for example. If FCG were a soulless automaton, the spell wouldn't have worked. The 9th level spell, True Polymorph, is a spell that can turn an object into a creature, or creature into an object, but not base Polymorph, which only works on living creatures.
@@Hey-Its-Dingo You are correct about animate objects the spell not tutning objects into creatures. However- construct is a creature type. Creatures of this type are generally not sentient nor living, but do constitute as creatures for spells like polymorph. Iron Golems have a trait which stops them from being transformed, which not only stops you from true polymorphing them but also implies it is not a feature of all constructs. In this category are a series of animated objects, not animated by the spell but by other magic, that can be polymorphed despite not being even remotely alive. The furniture the party fought in the first ep would likely fall into this category. So FCG being polymorphed isn't evidence of him being alive. But he's capable of independant complex thought, so he's certainly sentient and worthy of all the respect that comes with that. In my opinion, he really doesn't *need* to be alive to be treated as a person.
Sam portrayal of FCG inspired me to play a warforged in my next upcoming D&D game but it wasn't until i sat down and started thinking of the mentality of a warforged that i actually understood how brilliant Sam truly is. It's a complicated race to play and sooooo much fun to get into the mindset of as a character. Warforged were MADE usually for a very specific purpose; a specific mission, and when you complete it what do you do then? ARE you alive? DO you have a soul? what even determinants that? that's the fun i found in the race and every day as i get more and more into the character, i can see why Sam plays FCG as a warforged that doesn't believe has a soul yet i want to do the opposite, just to have a character who's so self conscious about what they are and so unsure of who they are. Critical Role opened the door for acting for me, and D&D is a fun way to get into character.
Their was a DnD podcast called TFS at the Table. Their was a Bard that really inspired me to give it a shot because theirs more ways to not only play a Bard but make a character than what most people do. His name was Eloy and he was a literal Hillbilly, his whole backstory is he was trained in the Druid way but was bad at it, happened upon a traveling Bard that had a flute. He had never seen the instrument and was fascinated by the music, the Bard gave him the flute with the promise that he’d be a great musician. His village raised him on the belief any magic outside of the Druid way was dangerous and wicked, so even though Eloy had a natural talent for Bard Magic he was in firm denial he was using Bard Magic and that he was just really good and music that people got so happy they’d help him with anything. His goal is to travel the world and be the greatest Bard their ever was and make people happy. Eloy is an innocent ray of sunshine who’s only goal in life is to make people happy with his music.
Honestly, Fearne holding it is the most plausible, since she's the only one in the party that's not considered a humanoid, she's the only one who's distinct enough she might not be a target
I went to one and only opera years ago. It was in Italian and over 4 hours long. I fell asleep for three 20ish minute naps only two wake up for a little less than an hour each time. I actually still did have fun.
Now I am curious about what would happen if F.C.G eat the Gnarlrock... Will their body "digest and absorb" the rock? Will that process nullify the effect? Or will the rock remain without being absorbed...
@@Blue_Lunacy iirc he said that FCG barfs up a kind of slag if fed impure metals or rocks, so while it wouldn't be necessarily corroded/digested it may end up being changed enough for the magic to dissipate. Or it might just not work since magical items don't really degrade over time...
Love your critical role animations and cinematic direction. ALSO I saw you said you're going into a long break. Perfectly acceptable thing to do. You focus on you, but I would like to ask if you know how long you'll be gone? If I don't hear anything, I'll check back in December 2022. Regardless, you have a relaxing break and come back recharged and rejunivated, and ready to roll again.
Daam i missed you stream... i really wanted a sketch from you : ( !!! Sad but o well. hope you are doing fine ^^ !!! And thanks for the nice drawing/video/cartoon : ) !!!
