Funnily enough a lot of influential figures of what would become the neoconservative movement in the US were ex-trotskyists. Some on the more traditional, isolationist american right commented how neoconservatives imported a sort of trotskyist mentality to right wing politics. One of proselytizing a singular ideology to every other country and making the US the vanguard of a global order through interventionist foreign policy, they just switched out the marxist "permanent revolution" for "western democracy."
