Looking closely at the MK1 frames we see a wrap around the face style of eyewear that sits close and stays firmly on the side of the head. The entire frame design is made of aluminum and uses all metal hardware to connect the frames together.
Being Aluminum, the MK1 frames are also fully moldable and can be adjusted at both the temple and center of the frame to get a perfect fit for the user.
The MK1 also uses a cerakote finish to protect against the basics like abrasion and corrosion but it also acts as a thermal insulator. This helps to keep the frames themselves from getting too hot to too cold from the environment before putting them on your face.
One of the greatest features of the MK1 is the ability to change out the different lenses. The modularity of the MK1 system gives it a great value as you can then use the glasses for just regular civilian use but then you could swap out for very mission-specific lenses.
Looking at the lenses, we see the clear, tinted, high contrast, and laser dazzle. All of the lenses are shatter and crackproof while also offering UVA and UVA protection. The clear lenses were absolutely great as an indoor eyewear solution while still offering 80% light transmission.
The tinted lenses are what I use most of the time for regular everyday use, and I found the 12-15% light transmission to be great to wear on a sunny day.
Looking at the high contrast lenses, these highlight dark colors to make shadows and other shapes really pop out at the user. I found the high contrast also made red dots much easier to see while also making the scope reticles really pop out at you. I was surprised at how much the edge definition of the reticle really stood out.
The last of the MK1 frames is the laser dazzle that is designed to break up those blue 445 nm wavelength and green 532 nm wavelength laser threats. These lenses really fall into the mantra of minimizing the secondary threat that the user may not be prepared for.
Moving to the step-in visor, we see an optical solution that can be connected to the Ops core helmet system. The step-in visor literally steps in by hooking into the ridge on the front of the helmet, allowing the user to still use their night vision.
The Step-in visor also uses all the same lenses of the MK1 with the clear, tint, high contrast, and dazzle but also offers one additional lens with the photochromic. This lens changes colors impossibly fast and we’ll show you that in our last video in the series.
Much like the MK1, the step-in visor has the same modularity of design to allow the lenses to all to be swapped out for various missions. The Step-in also has side gaskets that can be installed or removed to increase the overall ventilation to the user.

couple of points to make. First, Thank you for the overview. Your detail to each of the components is very helpful. Ops Core, though expensive, are, in my opinion, worth it. A co-worker took a .44 at close range to the helmet during a search for an armed individual. he walked away and the Ops Core helmet took it like a champ. With a huge increase in "peaceful protestors" using lasers to harm the eyes of law enforcement (Have a few in our agency who suffered permanent eye damage as a result) the laser dazzle lenses are a huge feature. For explosive breaching, shooting in close quarters and just every day duty wear on the streets to protect your eyes, these glasses seem solid. I may have missed it but do you happen to know if there are any prescription options for them?

I was just thinking about the laser threat the other day. Real happy most of those people didn't get charged, or let off by liberal DA's and prosecutors. I'd be very unhappy if my eyesight were permanently injured.

The military gear and civilian gear line has definitely been blurred. A Photochromatic lens that actually works? Awesome! I just wish the Mark I had wraparound arms.

Like tabs that can connect in a neck thingy? And one thing that's quite different is how tight these can actually sit on the temples. Normally I'd concur but I've done a good bit of foolishness and they've stayed put. -Walsh

Also, i picked up some oakleys a while back for outdoor and mtn biking glasses with the thought of using the exchangeable lenses. Ended up just buying 2 frames, 1 clear, 1 sunglasses since i found myself smudging and dropping the lenses when I tried to change them out

haha good point. I think that's a lesson learned too. I don't change the lenes a ton but I like the idea of not having to need all new frames if I wanted to try a set..then just buy a new frame to hold em. but yea, I'm seeing a similar thing. -Walsh

Just bought the tan with clear and tinted and talked my boss into getting me the Lazer dazzle since I splice and work with fiber optics at work on enough of a regular basis (once a monthish). The glasses are to replace a set of Oakleys I got a long while ago and are about the same price I just didn't want to pony up the extra $165 for special lenses. Yellow lenses have always given me headaches so those are a pass

My experience with metal gators was that when it's hot outside they heated up significantly, when it was freezing you can get frostbite. I'm definitely hesitant on buying metal eye pro again even if the yare coated. Though most likely people will never hit such conditions.

Does anyone know if any of the lenses create contrast for golf balls in grass in such a way they stand out? They "glow" under UV. I've been on the fence for a bit, if they'd help on the course too it'd be enough to push me over.
